The Big Bang Theory – Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock!

(Season 2, Episode 8 – “The Lizard-Spock Expansion”)

Okay, here’s how it goes. I’m only going to tell you once:

Scissors cut paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitate lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock and, as it’s always been, rock crushes scissors. I may have to give a pop quiz on this at the end of this entry. Read on.

Although this episode was less Sheldon-centric than I prefer, the “lizard-Spock expansion” of the rock-paper-scissors betting made it all worthwhile. I have to wonder how many takes it took to get the explanation and for them to all go Spock fingers in unison. Alas, the episode was more Wolowitz-centric and I can only take so much of him.

The premise was a bit different, though. Leonard actually got some for a change and we’re not talking Leslie Winkler. He got Howard’s girl. Or, to be more accurate, a woman Howard thought was his girl. Heck, Leonard even bought a new shirt which clued Penny in on his new woman.

Tonight we learned that Wolowitz not only will stoop to wearing an eye patch to get dates, but he also offers them the chance to “drive a car on Mars.” Now, that would be the Mars Rover, a top secret government project with which he’s involved. He got his just due tonight when he not only screwed up the Rover, but then when it was relocated, it held proof that life once existed on Mars. But he’ll get no credit for the discovery because he executed the Plan B – cover up the crime. Too bad, so sad for him, eh?

Despite Sheldon’s limited air time tonight, he made me chortle with his line about George Lucas. When he refusted to watch the Clone Wars TV show before seeing the Clone Wars movie, he said: “George Lucas can disappoint me in the order intended.” I noticed that the vanity card from Chuck Lorre was addressed to George Lucas. Oh, a sore spot. Oh, but Shatner is free to sue him for the comments made about Star Trek 5.

I’m wondering if the new character (Dr. Stephanie Barnett) is going to be a regular. I wasn’t all that impressed with her. She doesn’t come across as a doctor at all. I liked Penny’s line about her being a “doctor-doctor, not a you doctor.” But other than that … she could be written out and I wouldn’t miss her. I hope they were just using her for sex. Er, comedy relief. Whatever that was.

Pop Quiz! Nope, I won’t make it as easy as looking at the lizard-Spock expansion. What greeting usually accompanies the Vulcan hand gesture used in the image above?

Live Long & Prosper. Right?? I kinda hope they all get some, um, comic releif. Especially Sheldon. How would he handle it? It blows the mind.

And the typical response is “Peace and Long Life.”

I’m going with John, it’s “Live Long & Prosper”.

I Love the “lizard-Spock expansion” of the rock-paper-scissor

Funniest episode of the season. The Star Trek argument was golden, and Sheldon got some. I liked the Sheldon-Penny interaction in the laundry room. It was nice to see Sara Rue on TV again.

Small correction: It’s Leslie Winkle, not Winkler.
