90210 – Jessica Walter is my hero

90210

(Season 1, Episode 13 – “Love Me or Leave Me”)

This episode was awesome for one reason only: Jessica Walter. She had a bigger part in this episode than she usually does, and it was great. In fact, it almost made me overlook how annoying Annie was when she was whining about the stress of being a teenager.

So, the title of this episode is very fitting, as everyone was loving and/or leaving. People were having trouble all over Beverly Hills and walking out doors left and right, including, sadly, Tabitha. She gets a job on a mini-series playing a Revolutionary-War era grandmother who knits in her spare time. I would definitely watch that mini-series.

I thought Annie was supposed to be the Brenda of the new version, but she seems to be a little more like Donna Martin, with the extent to which she is guarding her virginity. Okay, maybe that’s not exactly true, since she seemed pretty willing to give it up to Ethan in this episode, but the point remains– Annie will remain pure until a very special episode sometime in the sixth season that involves a lot of candlelight. You know, if the show actually lasts that long.

While Ethan and Annie’s special night got derailed, it doesn’t seem to be affecting their relationship too negatively. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Dixon and Silver or Navid and Adrianna. Dixon and Silver’s relationship is finally coming off the rails. I’m not surprised; just surprised that it’s taken so long. Dixon is an All-American type of guy. He’s nice and always sees the positive aspects of people and situations. Silver … does not. She’s mean, judgmental and snarky, which is fine if that’s what you’re into, but it doesn’t seem like Dixon is. It just seems like he puts up with it. However, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen for much longer.

For Dixon and Silver, the problem is just a basic high school relationship issue. They have a personality clash, nothing more. Navid and Adrianna, on the other hand, have a much bigger problem. When you’re 16, how do you deal with your ex-drug addict girlfriend getting pregnant with an anonymous dude’s baby that she had sex with while she was high? Navid’s answer was that you don’t. It may seem harsh that he’s not sticking by Adrianna, but when you come down to it, that’s a lot to deal with. Navid’s a good guy, but he’s not a saint. However, with that said, I expect he’ll be back.

This episode didn’t feature any of the original cast members, which is kind of a shame. I really like Kelly on the show, and Brenda is relatively entertaining as well. What I want to know is when/if Ryan is coming back. He was a really big part of the show at first, and then he just disappeared after his non-scandal. I don’t know. Like I said last week, 90210 isn’t quite doing it for me right now. What about you guys? Are you still into it? Were you ever?

Its very funny to me that my least favorite character in the pilot, Adrianna, has become my favorite since. I think that they dashed through her rehab quickly, but I don’t think I would have wanted to see that story either.

As I never got into Arrested Development (ducks from ALL of the stuff that’s now being thrown at me), I’m not such a huge fan of Jessica Walter, or Tabitha Wilson. She seems like such a….. caricature of what ‘Tabitha Wilson’ would be.

I think you’re right… This show needs a shot in the arm.

I’m still somewhat liking this show, but maybe I’m just tuning in to see if Dylan will ever show up!

I kinda love this show a little. But that does not mean that I’m in any way looking forward to whiny Ryan coming back. He added nothing to the show. The is he/isn’t he storyline of his fling with a student wasn’t even worth the time. And having him sleep with Brenda just so her and Kelly had something to fight about was equally stupid. I had hoped he was off the show forever. Bring some real men in for Kelly & Brenda.

Also, what happened to detention hottie. He totally needs to hook up with Naomi.
