Why the new Weeds crew?

WEEDS (season 5) premiere

All you Weeds-in-Mexico haters, I know what’s really bothering you. I get it. You don’t understand who Nancy runs with these days. And, I hear you. I mean, I miss the old gang, too. Things were a lot lighter with them, a lot more fun.

Well, stop your whining! What’re you going to do? Those days are gone, man. You’re stuck on some clown from the sixties, man … sorry; wrong show.

But, really, you have to embrace the new, because, otherwise, you’re just punishing yourself. Like I’ve said before: Weeds is back, and it’s not waiting for any of you deserters.

However, for the sake of giving you one more shot, I’m willing to take a stroll down memory lane. Let’s quickly cover this second episode of season 5, one not too packed with plot, and then reminisce about the times we had with Nancy’s original drug organization.

So, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Doug is hilarious, and his relationship with Silas is one of the finest things about the new season. The pairs’ trek into the deep woods of Cleveland National Forest was short, but funny, in that Silas measured distance by keeping track of how far into his childhood story Doug was. Andy and Shane made it to Nancy’s sister, Jill (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and after a little complaining time, Andy and Jill promptly had sex. Way to show your adoration for Nancy, Andy!

Nancy, herself, is stuck with Cesar (Enrique Castillo) as a bodyguard, and his losing her will not be without consequences for someone. And, while Esteban (Demian Bichir) made a disturbing appearance, it was brief, as I believe his appearances will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Celia’s still down in Mexico, now taking charge of organizing her captor’s rebel camp. Hopefully she’s made herself a home, although I already know what’s coming for her next.

There, short and sweet. And now for our stroll down memory lane.

Conrad (Romany Malco) took his crop and headed for the hills when Agrestic went up in flames. With him went Heylia (Tonye Patano), and Vaneeta (Indigo), the latter with Sanjay’s (Maulik Pancholy) baby. Man, remember when Nancy’s wildest sexual adventure was with Conrad? Or, how Heylia use to be able to put Nancy in her place whenever she wanted? How the matriarch ruled her little pot domain with an iron fist? A big risk was Conrad and Nancy going against Heylia by growing their own strain, flooding the market with some “MILF” weed.

And, that stuff was awesome. Or so we heard. Of course, that was the vehicle that the show used to introduce us, and Nancy, to Guillermo (Guillermo Diaz), but we had some good times before he set Agrestic aflame.

And what about back when Sanjay worked for Nancy in her little bakery, or whatever it was? Or in the maternity store that Guillermo set up? I appreciated that Sanjay made an appearance in the premiere, but I’m not surprised that he faded to black once his bit was over. Nancy plays in a much darker pool now, and there’s no room for the happy-go-lucky gay kid with the baby.

Not enough? Get your nostalgia on via Kona’s virgin diary, but tune in to season 5, as well. It’s back to the old, even if the crew is new.

Esteban sure was quick too, damn he is really bad at sex! I’m shocked his sperm were even able to swim last season.

This episode forgot the funny, I’d like the funny to return.

I don’t understand why Nancy doesn’t just tell the DEA guy who is running the show. Her family already left, and she is dead anyways. I really hope this season ends with her dieing, I think that would be amazing.

This was just a boring episode that was used to set up the rest of the season. It’s a shame that couldn’t find a way to make it better, but I have high hopes for the rest of the season.
