Webisode Clack – Previously On Point Dume

Everyone's favorite active, Enver Gjokaj, returns to the small screen with his very own web series, 'Previously On Point Dume'. It's a recap show for the greatest nighttime soap opera that never existed.

If you were playing a long with the home game while Dollhouse was making its two season run, there were a lot of things to argue about. Fans and detractors alike went back and forth about so many aspects of the show. Did the network screw things up? Did the Friday night death slot kill the show? Does Eliza Dushku have the acting chops to carry a series? Were the whole lot of them just plain evil? Through all of that, one thing most people seemed to agree on was that Enver Gjokaj was the breakout star of the show. Through all his various imprints, and especially when we saw the Enver version of Topher, he repeatedly showed a fantastic range. With Dollhouse now gone, the big question is what will Enver be up to next.

There is a guest spot coming on Lie To Me, and he’ll play the young version of Robert De Niro‘s character in Stone. With any luck, those will be followed by another starring gig on TV. While we wait for those things to hit screens of various sizes, we can get a look at what happens when Mr. Gjokaj steps behind the camera. For that, we turn to Previously On Point Dume.

The setup is a bit wacky, but it comes from a fun place. Previously On Point Dume is a recap show for the greatest nighttime soap opera that never existed. Gjokaj has confessed his love for soaps, and thought it would be a great starting point for a show because you have people saying the most insane things, but playing it straight. Point Dume will also satirize shows like Lost, and their barrels of unanswered questions. As he puts it, “[OnĀ Point Dume], there’s always something crazy going on, and we’re not going to try too hard to come up and explain it, becauseĀ Lost certainly doesn’t.” To put it another way, the show has been described as Twin Peaks meets Clue.

That bizarre description should give an idea of just what kind of characters Point Dume offers. Gjokaj plays the most notorious landscapist in Point Dume, Bron Diller. And, in fine soap opera tradition, he also dons a mustache to play his evil twin, Ron. He’s also joined by some notable actors in the undertaking, including James C. Burns (General Hosptial) and Lauren Cohan (Supernatural).

Gjokaj drew inspiration for his move to the web from working with Joss Whedon and Felicia Day. He also ads that working on Dollhouse sparked an interest in directing. When some downtime presented itself after Dollhouse, he wanted to get an idea of what it takes to do something from beginning to end. That was the goal, and the end result is Point Dume. Right now, there is just the first episode on the official Point Dume website, but you can sign up to be notified when future episodes arrive. You should also check out interviews with Gjokaj at ign.com and io9.com. Here is the premiere episode of Previously On Point Dume.
