Five reasons why America’s Next Top Model Cycle 15 will rock

After watching the premiere episode, here are five reasons why 'America's Next Top Model' will be a hoot to watch.

America’s Next Top Model took a turn for being credible. That’s something unexpected after fourteen cycles, years of horrible photoshoots, contestants who would never have the chance of modeling, teaching girls the art of commercial modeling, and Miss J wearing frill-collars around his neck. This cycle full of high quality names and high fashion only happened because Tyra Banks ended her talk show and has more time to focus on her first baby.

1) Actual Prizes – While the CoverGirl contract has become the backbone of Top Model, the magazine and agencies have improved. IMG models has replaced Wilhelmina Models, IMG was last seen back in Cycle 2 when the show had some credibility. How Tyra convinced them to come back is beyond me. The magazine has skyrocketed from Seventeen to Vogue Italia, the cream of the crop Vogue magazine. Even if you graced the middle pages and didn’t have a cover, it is worth the 12 weeks of Tyra torture for the exposure one would get.

2) Real fashion industry names – The show actually had the ability to name drop for the previews this season of real fashion people. Let’s hope that we don’t see any more Kim Kardashians or CW plugs guest judging. Who would want to follow Diane von Furstenberg or Patrick Demarchelier? Even the photographers have some obscure European sounding names, that must mean they’re good!

3) No plus-sized models – While I support models of all shapes, sizes, and colors, Tyra puts a plus-sized model in a room full of skinny models and every time the plus-sized model slowly fades away. Don’t question plus-sized models being in Italian Vogue because Cycle 3 contestant Toccara Jones recently made it in. If Tyra did place a plus-sized model in the competition, you’re bound to hear, “You’ve lost that bubbly personality” or “You’re fading into the background.” Whitney’s win in Cycle 10 was just a fluke and Tyra wanted a rainbow of winners. One less cliche storyline to deal with for Cycle 15.

4) The high fashion atmosphere – With the High Fashion mentality that Tyra wants; let’s hope there’s less Sears and Wal-Mart and replace them with avant garde dresses and forcing these contestants to work with odd accessories. High Fashion can be very glamorous, so I’m hoping that if these girls are going to grace the pages of Italian Vouge, they have a portfolio that would have booked them the job.

5) Tyra is still crazy – Even though the show is going in a high fashion direction, that doesn’t mean ANTM wants to be nominated for an Outstanding Competitive Reality Competition Emmy. Tyra made sure that her models were still odd-ball characters that people would watch. Right off the beginning of the show we meet two bickering sisters, Chris and Terra. They seem scripted at times, but both make for interesting television as a pair. As for other contestants, who knew that there were women with size G breasts? I thought that Heidi Montag was being silly when she wanted size H breasts. And the girl who is afraid of semen? That’s classy of Tyra to let that one make the air.

At the end of the cycle, Tyra will figure out a way to create disappointment for the viewers. Whether it’s eliminating girls for heinous reasons like loosing spark, creating photoshoots that would teach the girls nothing about modeling, or doing horrible Photoshop (Look at the full body shots of Jane and Anamaria. They have the same skirt and legs!) it’s Tyra’s show and she can do whatever the hell she wants.
