The Big Bang Theory – Even the Hulk has a girlfriend, Leonard

This show consistently has some of the funniest lines and descriptions on television today. While it's hard to actually catch all the scientific jargon used, I still love "cornucopia of social awkwardness" and "I'm a physicist, not a hippie." Definitely snicker-worthy stuff!

- Season 4, Episode 5 - "The Desperation Emanation"

Oh my … throw dating girls into the mix of the science boys and it’s mayhem, I tell you, mayhem. We got kind of used to Leonard having Penny as girlfriend last season. (Well, as used to it as I could, as I didn’t think they worked as a couple.) We saw Howard Wolowitz going out with a girl who’s the perfect foil for him, only to have her mysteriously vanish. Raj is kind of helpless in the romance department, as he can’t talk with women; that should go without saying, pardon the pun. Who would have thought Sheldon would ever have a love of his life?

He doesn’t. Amy Farrah Fowler is a girl and she’s a friend, but she’s not a girlfriend! Sheesh, we should all know this by now. Oh, but there’s something there, for sure. It’s definitely a relationship albeit not quite a romantic one.

So, Sheldon has Amy, Howard is back with Bernadette, and even Raj has met a deaf girl so he doesn’t have to talk to her. I suppose he doesn’t get as nervous while texting or using ASL as he does when speaking. Somehow I doubt we’ll meet the girl in future episodes. She’s probably just a girl of convenience for this episode.

Who doesn’t have a girlfriend? Leonard! The one most likely to date is forlorn, lonely, and bereft or something to that effect. Sheldon relishes teasing him about it until Amy asked him to meet her mother. “Meet my mother” certainly means girlfriend, no longer “she’s a girl and she’s my friend.” Panic and tizzy, along with a Groucho Marx disguise ensue.

Meanwhile, Leonard invoked the girlfriend pact of the friend agreement with Howard — Bernadette had to hook up Leonard with a friend of hers. Ew, so not a good match! I’d rather think of him with Penny cuddling again! Sweaty, jockette with the manners of a street bum (thankfully a wee bit cleaner), I can’t even call her a diamond in the rough. She’s more like a clod of dirt in the rough. But when she hinted that she’ll probably be giving it away at an open bar wedding she needed a date for, Leonard jumped on that. We can only offer to send him condoms, I guess.

We should have realized Amy Farrah Fowler has no romantic designs on our boy Sheldon. She only wants to get her mother off her back about not having a boyfriend. She wanted to perpetrate a ruse, so to speak. Now, that Sheldon can get into … perhaps a bit too much. The meeting, via laptop of course, had Sheldon talking dirty to really “impress” her mother. Well, talking dirty using more science-related phrasing. But he’s Sheldon, that’s expected.

A fun little episode for the most part. I’m not overly thrilled about the writers tossing up a girlfriend for Raj whom we probably will never see. I’ll take that back if they do show her in future episodes, of course. Obviously, I’d rather not see the girl Leonard met again. She can go off with Barry Kripke.

“Do you think we should practice coitus once?”

“BAZINGA!”
