Fairly Legal set visit: Michael Trucco interview (part 3)

Before I get into the interview, I have two Michael Trucco stories to share:

1. The night before our Fairly Legal set visit, the media representatives took the bloggers out to dinner. Afterwards, half of us went to bed to type up our notes (or, you know, sleep) while the other half partook of Vancouver’s night life. However, the more social bloggers lucked out and ran into Michael Trucco at one of the area lounges. When people showed me their photos in the morning, I have to admit I did not recognize Trucco out of character. Despite having loved him as “Captain America” in Castle and as Anders in Battlestar Galactica, I almost felt I had to turn in my geek card.
2. At the end of the interview, the media representatives offered to take a group photo, and I hesitated. I recently started to feel if I’ve met a person and had a good conversation, I don’t need the photographic evidence, celebrity or no. But, after realizing I’d probably have my geek card revoked, I jumped onto a chair and leaned onto one of my fellow bloggers (the result was not pretty). Surprisingly, Michael Trucco reached back and held my elbow until all the photo-taking finished. It was a covert act on his part which shows his gentleman cowboy charm.

In Fairly Legal, Michael Trucco plays Justin Patrick, the almost-ex-husband of the main character, Kate (Sarah Shahi). Because he’s still a lawyer, Justin occasionally helps Kate with access or provides her with information. Of course, he’s still partially in love with her, and hopes the divorce won’t continue.

I found myself lucky enough to sit opposite him during the interview. While I hate to comment on an actor’s looks, you know the clichéd statement “they look better in person”?  It’s true. You see the photo up above? He’s hotter than that. How he looked in Battlestar Galactica playing basketball and Castle wrestling with Beckett? Seriously. He’s. Way. Hotter. In fact, I’m surprised I managed to get through the entire interview without sliding across my number, my address, and a request for people he’d like me to kill. His charming, laid back attitude and his gentle Texas twang, I dubbed him cowboy rockstar and hoped he wouldn’t run for office. I’m pretty certain he could convince me to outlaw puppies and oxygen.

The one thing about Michael Trucco is he always has major chemistry with his female co-stars. Fairly Legal continues his streak. My only frustration was that his character appeared defined by Kate. You know Sloane, the stereotypical girl in the 1980s films? She’s pretty, charming, and cool, but she’s basically there to support Ferris. Well, here, Justin Patrick comes across as the “guy.” He’s sweet, charming, and insightful, but you don’t see him do anything outside Kate; so, I wondered if he envisioned a biography for Justin, in the pilot, to flesh out the character.

Surprisingly, he mentioned Basttlestar Galactica when describing his acting process. So, clack on for what I managed to ask the cowboy rock star.
