Royal Pains – Wooded wings and clouds of sand

Back with its second episode after a mid-season break, USA's sunny program about clever doctors in the Hamptons serves up an hour filled with tension, laughs and of course, illnesses that I cannot even begin to pronounce. (sigh) Where's my dictionary?

- Season 3, Episode 12 - "Some Pig"

Royal Pains

You know, with so much serious fare on television these days, it’s rather refreshing to be given a selection of lighthearted entertainment. Personally, I’ve always believed in balance, a nice equilibrium of hard-hitting procedurals and enjoyable pieces that tend to be a bit fluffier. Apparently, the brilliant minds at the USA Network are of the same opinion. Last night’s fuzzy episode of Royal Pains offered up enough enjoyment to keep me glued to my flat screen. To that end, let’s begin, shall we?

Last week’s (mildly) heated installment ended with the (devastatingly) beautiful Divya revealing to Hank about how she screwed up with Mr. Kassabian’s medication. I have to admit that was one of the reasons I was so inclined to tune in to this particular episode – aside from the fact that reviewing Royal Pains for CliqueClack is my job. Hank spent the majority of the episode being cold to his colleague which I imagine must be a challenge when you’re in the sunny Hamptons. Although he said he forgave Divya for her mistake, he was visibly affected in that he continued to second guess all of her beliefs regarding the new case of the week. Needless to say, there was undoubtedly tension.

However, should there be? Can I pause for a second? Thanks. Question – why is Hank so upset? I mean, Divya really was apologetic, and she admitted that the only reason that she was working in secret at Hamptons Heritage is because she had some financial business to take care of. I can certainly understand that. I survived on Spam and pork rinds while paying off my Jeep Grand Cherokee last May. So, should Hank really be pissed? I’d like to know. Please answer that question for me if you can.

Let’s get back to the episode. Aside from a new medical case of the week involving a rock and roll band stricken with a paralyzing illness that proved to be a narrative that was merely okay, there wasn’t really much to this episode which was fine by me. Evan and Paige shared an interesting plot. It seemed he was getting hives by being stressed out about his upcoming marriage. However, were the hives due to stress or the bedbugs that Hank and Paige discovered in Evan’s bed? I’m going to say it was stress. I could be wrong.

And that’s about it. This episode of Royal Pains was like cotton candy – enjoyable but not much to it. Having said that, the cast is awesome. Mark Feuerstein and Paulo Costanzo never cease to amuse me, and their banter frequently reminds me of the exchanges I have with my own brother, but enough of that. Let’s get down to business. We have a few questions to ponder. For starters, now that Jack knows he has lupus, will he continue to play golf? Are Evan and Paige really headed for happiness? And will Hank and Divya really put the past behind them? Come on! Even doctors make mistakes! I want to know your opinions. Feel free to sound off below!

I am sounding off. I have never watched this sitcom but it sounds very interesting. You have made me curious so now I will start watching it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the recap. Also, I think Evan getting hives could have been from both stress and bedbugs. Yike!!

Evan and Paige better make it! I thought Evan and Divya would have gotten together, but I like Evan and Paige so, so much better. The chick that plays Paige is so adorable.

Jessica, I agree. The actress is very pretty, and she and Paulo (who portrays Evan) do have believable chemistry. I’m sure they’ll make it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they bumped into an obstacle or two. This is TV, right? Do you think Divya will find happiness? It seems as if everyone has someone except her. Here’s a thought… what about Hank and Divya?

Hank & Divya??? Not in a million years!!! I’ve watched the show enough to know that they respect each other too much as colleagues to become involved. I’m wondering about Dr. Green & Hank. . . things that make you go hmmmmmm!!!!!

Dr. Green and Hank? Yes, that does make me go hmmmm. LOL Still, I think Divya and Hank together would spice up the show, and could create some interesting tension between Divya and Jill…which could finally provide Jill with a decent plot. I’m just sayin.
