The Voice – The first live eliminations

The hammer comes down on 4 of the 12 from the camps of Team Blake and Team Christina.

- Season 2, Episode 11 - "Live Eliminations"

Isn’t it nice when the stars align and all is right with the world? Doesn’t it give you a warm fuzzy? Don’t you find yourself walking around for a while just a little bit giddy because of it?

Two of the three I picked to get the boot got it during the first round of viewer voting on The VoiceMoses Jones and Naia Keti. And I’m good with that, satisfied. Joining them were Charolette Sometimes and Sera Hill, Sera being a bit of a surprise for me to see her get ousted, especially after some of those diva-licious performances she put out there. Not everything can be “just so” when it comes to reality competition, you know. A few curve balls have to be thrown into the mix.

Of the eight who made the cut — Erin Willett, Jermaine Paul and RaeLynn from Blake’s camp and Jesse Campbell, Lindsey Pavao and Chris Mann from Christina’s — I have just one side note: I did utter an audible “Damn …” when Chris made it for the simple fact I’ve never been on board his train. Yeah, yeah, yeah … I see the reason people like him and the technicality he displays, but he’s got a different sort of “voice” … not the one right for or that will win this season. I’ve said that before and I’m sticking with it. Load up on heads of lettuce and tomatoes to toss at me when he performs, because I just don’t see my state of mind changing about him anytime soon.

And then there were the two contestants the coaches picked to be saved: Christina nabbed Ashley De La Rosa, Blake nodded at Jordis Unga. Again, I think both coaches got those choices right based on the final song they sang to try and win them over. The stars aligned once again.

But … of the entire eight, there’s only one who I think has the possibility of taking the whole enchilada: Erin Willett. Her powerhouse chops fulfill the expectations of a tune better than any of the rest. She’ll be right up there come the finale.

Next week, Cee Lo and Adam’s teams perform with eliminations to follow. And there’s all kinds of monkey business going on with their hopefuls.

Get this… I actually watched this last night!!! That never happens :)

I agreed with the choices based on what I saw… although I felt in two cases that my choices might have been different had they sung different songs.

Most notably, I don’t think anyone should take on a Mariah song when they are singing for they “lives,” seldom can this end well. I admire her pluck for taking on that song…but don’t know if I’d have done it then and there. At the end of the day, I don’t know that Sera isn’t the best voice that was on the stage last night.

I thought Christina should have saved Sera, but I agreed with Blake’s decision.

You know, in that promotional picture, I always think Christina looks like she’s solemnly saluting a dictator.

. . . . .

Little known fact: She’s “saluting” Carson Daly.

(Actually she’s just “bunny ears”-ing him. I’ve heard rumor Christina hates him more than I do … which is about the only thing we have in common.)

But she really does look like the leader of her cartel was just named the dictator for a South American third world nation.

Psst, Michael…it’s Moses Stone, Naia Kete, and Charlotte Sometimes. Just sayin’.

Also, Katie’s comment above just made me spit my coffee.

. . . . .

Well, of course it is, Brittany.

How could I have been so blind as to not have noticed that obvious fact?

Yep. This season is making you even crankier than usual, Mike.
