Glee returns with answers about Quinn, and a new character in Matt Bomer

Is Quinn dead? What's happening with Rachel and Finn's engagement? Whose the new character? Read on fellow Gleeks ... read on!

- Season 3, Episode 15 - "Big Brother"

We met Blaine’s big brother (Matt Bomer) on this episode of Glee, and I for one was thrilled. I wasn’t a fan of either White Collar or Chuck, so I don’t know how he was on those shows. But as Blaine’s super egotistical “professional actor” sibling? He had me chortling. I’ve known oodles of people like him in my travels, and he embodied their ridiculous over-the-top self-importance perfectly. (Especially in the scene where he spouted his acting tips to the kids taking his “Master Class.”)

If you have a love/hate relationship with your brother or sister, Blaine and Cooper were definitely in a relatable situation. Through the duets tonight (especially “Somebody I Used to Know,” originally done by Gotye, which was incredible) the two of them were well suited. Darren Criss (Blaine) has proven to be the breakout star of Glee this season. And as his character will remain at McKinley while the “big guns” are graduating … expect to hear even more from and about him next year. And with good reason.

Here’s “Somebody I Used to Know” for those of you who missed it. And believe me, you don’t want to miss it.

Just those type of moments are what keeps me coming back to Glee.

In other news, Rachel and Finn are arguing again. (Oh and Lea Michele and Cory Monteith are apparently a “real life” item. Huh. I wonder how that’s working out for them.) It’s just the same ole, same ole here. The whole “Rachel I’m Important Too” argument. I’m snoozing …

The writers are having us believe at this point that Sue’s baby will have Down’s Syndrome just like Becky and Sue’s dear sister. I’m not going to like this twist, should it happen. I’ll understand it and I’m sure we’ll get more insight into Sue’s character if this is the case. But it’ll make me sad. Having said that? Earlier in the episode we saw glorious glimpses of the Villain Formerly Known as Sue in the Glee Club Booty Camp scenes. Look. I enjoy seeing Sue’s softer side as well as the next person. But her delicious evilness is … delicious. I love that she calls Kurt “Porcelain.” Shoot me. It’s funny!

The other thread in the story line was, of course, Quinn. Gleeks were left on the edge of our seats wondering whether or not she had died in that car accident while texting. But if you were on the internet in the following weeks, you saw the spoilers that she hadn’t. As she explained to the kids tonight, her spine was compromised, she’s getting feeling back in the lower half of her body, and with lots of physical therapy there’s hope for her to walk again.

So! Why all the negativity from Artie and others? I’m saying let’s remain focused on the upside of her diagnosis here. After all? They’re supposedly her best friends. I get that she has to accept her reality. For now. But there’s a good chance it will change (and believe me, the finale will have us all bawling as she walks across the stage and does a cartwheel) so why rain on her? Answer me that one.

Did you miss Glee during its hiatus? Aren’t you tied of Rachel and Finn? Don’t you hate Perry’s wife?

Oh. Sorry. I got caught up. That last one was actually a quote from the movie Arthur.

Hey Gurl,

Another great review. Umm, I have been sick of Finn and Rachel for awhile. The part of the show that I had to snicker about was when Kurt said to Blaine (not sure of the exact words) but basically, go and talk to him in the style you are best at. In other words, let’s put on a show. It’s definitely like a musical at times on this show. The band appears, accompanist’s are always available, etc, etc, etc. Still you got to like the show…

It will be interesting what happens to Quinn. I think Artie was happy to have someone like himself in the glee club and because of that he didn’t like that Quinn might not always be that way…which I think is really selfish. Glad they are making this texting and driving (or walking – I have had kids walk in the front my car – luckily I was watching – while the where busy looking at their phone). I always worry about my kids and my husband for that matter. My husband has a hands free device but I still don’t think your mind is fully on driving when you are talking on the phone. Ok, Ok… I could go on and on about that subject. I like how the piano accompanist applauded when Sue threw out Mercedes phone. I feel like doing that with my husband’s phone. haha.

Anyway, good review.

Maureen: I agree that the emphasis on not texting and driving (or walking) was needed. I’m guilty as well sometimes. And have I ever told you how much I appreciate your constant support and commenting? You, gurl? Rock.

First of all, while I stopped watching the show because of the lack of sticking character development (coughcough Rachel cough), I really don’t get the people who say the music isn’t good. Granted, not every cover is a hit, but these people are really talented… especially Darren Criss who I still think of as musical Harry Potter. And yes, the performance in the video was great – I ended up watching it last week on youtube and thoroughly enjoying it.

*waves to Katie*
Darren has some roots at the University of Michigan (as you know if you referenced his musical Harry Potter) so that makes him even closer to my heart. Although I’m an MSU fan myself.
