Survivor – Going, going, gone

The Island Auction makes a comeback this week, and if there was any time for a major move at Tribal, this was it ... but did anyone actually go for it?

- Season 24, Episode 10 - "I'm No Dummy"

Jeff offers an advantage in the Island Auction

Okay, I really want to know why Tarzan keeps voting with the women! Why aren’t the Survivor producers letting us see those conversations that he’s obviously having with Kim or Chelsea? His votes now just seem completely random without the context, so it would be really interesting to see what kinds of promises have been made in order to secure his vote … especially after he came up in second place this week at Tribal to be voted out! Seeing a little of the wheeling and dealing between him and the women would certainly liven things up a bit.

That’s not to say that this week’s show was dull. The focus, of course, was on Troyzan (yes, I guess I have to call him that since that’s how he referred to himself all night), his attempt to question Christina on why she’s voting with a group that would have put her out long ago had it still been men vs women, his verbal sparring with Chelsea and Sabrina, and his general Alpha Male attitude now that he’s backed into a corner. Is it strategy to try to intimidate his opponents, or has he just become desperately out-of-control? I know he’s annoying the heck out of the women (and Tarzan), but I think he’s working more on intimidation than simple island madness.

He certainly put his plan into motion when the tribe learned they would be participating in the Island Auction. Everyone seemed focused on what kind of food they could buy, but Troyzan actually knows the game and knew that there would be something there to help him either locate another hidden immunity idol, or give him an advantage in the next immunity challenge. While the women were busy buying donuts and iced coffee, chips, guacamole and a margarita, a shower with shampoo and a toothbrush, a BLT with chips and iced tea (and Kat was surprised that her BLT had bacon on it!), and peanut butter and chocolate (which Kim ate in her shower), and a strawberry shortcake (for the whole tribe), Leif was the only man to buy anything – a protein shake and two bananas. Tarzan held on to his $500 so he could buy new shocks for his Jeep (they get to keep the money they don’t spend?), and Alicia spent her $500 on a letter from home … which moved Tarzan so much that he also bought his letter at the same price. Who didn’t spend any money? Christina and Troyzan.

But, Jeff pulled out the mysterious package that contained an advantage at the next immunity challenge. Troyzan started the bidding, and the women basically forced Christina to engage in a bidding war with him … but she opted to quit at $400, giving Troyzan the win with $420. Did Troyzan get through to Christina back at camp about her position within the tribe? Did she want him to get the advantage? We’ll never know, because those kinds of important pieces of information are always left on the editing room floor. Whatever her reason, Troyzan made a very good purchase at $420 (why he didn’t just bid $500 off the bat is also a mystery — was he also hoping to buy a slice of pizza afterwards?) because he got to advance to the second stage of the three-part immunity challenge, and ended up going head-to-head with Tarzan, of all people! It was close, but Troyzan was the victor. Could he reunite the Manono V2 tribe and score some votes to take out Kim?

This was the week for a huge move, and Troy worked Tarzan, Leif, Christina and Alicia to vote with him for Kim. Alicia pondered whether this was the right time to make that kind of a move (hint: IT IS!), and even with Troyzan playing the numbers game of their five against the other four women, they could take all the power players out and go much further in the game than they would have otherwise. Again, stupidity reigns supreme as the women (and Tarzan) split their vote between Leif and TARZAN (moron), while Leif and Troyzan are the only two two vote for Kim. I can’t say that Leif really deserved to stay much longer, but unless the women really start to fall apart next week, and unless Troyzan or Tarzan wins immunity till the end, we’re looking at an all-woman final three. Of course, it will get interesting once the women have to start turning on each other … and how long Kim can retain control once they get rid of the last men standing.

I couldn’t believe that Tarzan voted out Leif! What a moron. And second place for morons goes to Christina and Alicia who are definitely at the bottom of the ladies’ totem pole. Troyzan was right- this was a golden opportunity to change the game and vote out Kim (who didn’t even feel the need to play her immunity idol). That would have been another awesome game changer. Don’t get me wrong, I think Kim is a great player, but the weaklings let her power grow and are setting the stage for a boring set of tribal councils: Tarzan, Troyzan, Christina, Alicia and so on…
I hope the previews were on to something and that next week, Troyzan manages to break up the women’s alliance.

It shouldn’t have been a total surprise Tarzan voted with the women because he’s been voting with them since the merge, it seems. I just don’t know what he thinks loyalty to them is going to get him, especially after this week’s vote. It’s obvious the women aren’t going to turn on each other until they have to, regardless of what the previews show (I always have to point to the Hurricane Na’Onka preview that never delivered on the episode what was promised in the preview. I put little stock in the previews). But, if there was any week to make a big, game changing move, this was it and Alicia and Christina blew it and they’ll be out right behind Tarzan and Troy (unless he keeps winning immunity or finds the idol). I would say hunger just makes people stupid, but they all had a little something to eat at the auction. These people are just stupid (and following the pattern of many tribes before them). If anything, it’s all become pretty predictable.

I predicted it would be predictable ;-)

All I took away this week: the guy who’s supposed to be a surgeon needs 500 bucks for shocks just to give that money away a minute later. And he votes with the women.

I don’t even find that level of stupidity funny anymore.

If only this was Colby in the game as the “only man who can make it in challenges”-underdog then at least I’d have someone to root for but this season is just such a letdown…

Oh, well wait till you see the next two seasons, which are shooting earlier than usual so Jeff can go off and do his new talk show in the fall. Reports have the next season starting with three tribes, and one returning player on each tribe (allegedly Mike Skupkin, the guy who fell into the fire which made him the sixth person out that season, and two others from other seasons who also went out sixth — and guess which number Colton was this season), and even more returnees for the season after next, since they shoot back to back which means no time to really go through submissions, so … it’ll be more stereotypes and models found wandering around Hollywood Blvd or nightclubs or talent agencies. Yay.

Oh man… they are really really trying to milk season two. And rightfully so, I mean look at me, reminiscing about it and then you tell me that a contestant will be back.

Is there anyone who hasn’t been back?

Hehe… Hasselbeck’s birth name was Filarski. Funny. Who would’ve thought that she’s such a nutjob.

“Fremdschämen” and “Schadenfreude” were invented for that video :-)

On the other hand I have to admit that the tits do work, can’t deny that. The way Kat was doing her little rain dance the last two weeks when she won something or was happy made me want me want to break a twenty into ones…

Tarzan is playing a great game..He will be in the F3. The girls in control need a guy in the camp for security and basic survival needs..Tarzan fits the bill and poses no threat to the power players. He may not win the million ,but he will be in the final 3..Troyzan will have to win every challenge to make it to the F3.

April 22, 2012 at 3:22 AM

They need a man for security and basic survival needs?? Hahahahahaha. Tarzan won’t last 3 more episodes.

April 22, 2012 at 3:38 AM

Right. I seem to recall one season when Stephanie was the only person left on her tribe before the merge. Plus there are plenty of people standing around with cameras and microphones, so I don’t think anyone really needs Tarzan for security. I think Kim and Sabrina can stand their ground if need be. (That’s kind of sexist to even suggest the women need a man for protection.) But with the only real intruders being wild animals, I don’t think anyone on the tribe has a weapon to defend themselves.

Troyzan’s my man fuck I want him to win so bad. Tarzan’s an idiot he got 3 votes he’s going to go next if Troyzan doesn’t get lucky again. I’m glad he won the immunity challenge but he should’ve killed Tarzan it was too close of a game if you ask me. I’m glad I’m not the only one that was like ‘what the fuck, Kim only two votes?’ That could mean lief was the idiot who voted out Tarzan which I still find hard to believe that he got that many votes. Very unfortunate the way they divided the votes like that could’ve taken out Kim easily, Ill probably stop watching if Troyzan gets voted out then watch the last episode. God Tarzan’s an idiot…

April 20, 2012 at 5:46 AM

Actually, if you watched the end of the show when they show the votes, Leif and Troyzan were the two votes for Kim. Tarzan voted for Leif.

I must’ve missed it sorry for the strongly worded reply. This is the most I’ve ever been emotionally invested in a survivor season. This one’s pretty good. I would love to see Troyzan win forreal though. Seeing kim getting voted out would make my day and lets not forget how rude Alicia was being to that Asian chick back when Colton was still on the show.
