Saturday Night Live – Eli Manning/Rihanna

Little brothers, football celebrations, Swedish talk shows and yet more Herb Welch. It's another episode of 'SNL', and we'll have videos of the sketches here when we get 'em!

- Season 37, Episode 20 - "Eli Manning/Rihanna"

Cold Open: Fox & Friends — This was a little departure from what we’ve seen recently, though I believe F&F has shown later in the episode. It was just OK for me, and I bet the best parts were written in those fast disclaimers at the end.

Monologue: Eli Manning — I thought he did a great job up there, and it was pretty funny too. Sounded like he got quite a cheer from the audience as well. Definitely better than I thought he’s be.

Amazon.com / Fifty Shades of Grey — This was pretty hilarious. I’d only heard of ‘Fifty Shades‘ in passing before, and now … I know too much. “Look, a microphone!”

EA Sports Motion Capture — This was an OK sketch. I’m glad they didn’t try to do the entire thing with Manning’s attempts at a good celebration move — bringing in other players was good, but it could’ve been better.

Court Case Texts — I wonder if these days there are quite a few court cases that bring in cellphone text message transcriptions. I’m better they’re pretty close to as funny as those in this sketch.

Little Brothers — Best part of this short was Manning calling one “kid” Peyton.

Herb Welch with WXPD News — I say chalk the Heb Welch sketches into the retirement pool at this point. Time to kill him off once and for all. The hand reaching through for the “sneak attack” would’ve been funnier if the timing wasn’t off.

Musical Guest: Rihanna — Though the songs aren’t exactly my thing, I gotta say, she’s pretty damn hot. Pretty impressive moves in that second song too. She sure likes to pat her cooch a lot though, doesn’t she?

Weekend Update — Great little cameo from Sacha Baron Cohen and Martin Scorsese (“Scorgejee”)to promote his movie, The Dictator, but did anyone else think the “best movie of the year” mentioned was going to be The Avengers?

What Is This? — Pretty lame sketch, really. It started off with a little promise but felt flat pretty quickly.

Helga Lately — All I can say about this one is I love that the “Toop Chef” logo was the Muppets Swedish Chef.

Miss Drag World — Wow … this was horrible. I really have nothing to say beyond that.

Cheech & Chong & Richard — Better than that last skit, but not by much. Even the crowd couldn’t get behind these. I’m not really sure what I could suggest to have made it better — it was just a bizarre idea to begin with.

I hadn’t heard much about Fifty Shades of Grey until the past couple of weeks. If you feel a morbid desire to learn more without actually reading it, there’s an awesome Tumblr out there called “Fifty Shades of Suck” which chronicles the more eye-raising, face-palming quotes from the books.
