Five ways to improve Person of Interest

How can 'Person of Interest' improve? Let me count the ways: humanity, humanity, humanity, humanity, humanity ...

There’s no secret that I love Person of Interest. However, as J. Nolan’s executive production staff prepares for the sophomore season, I have a couple suggestions. Normally, I trust the showrunner’s vision implicitly. And, when I don’t (i.e., Dan Harmon), they prove me wrong for doubting them (see Community‘s finale). Unfortunately, Person of Interest seems stuck on the big movie-action ideal which emphasizes action and plot over character development.

Episodes 9-19 hooked me on the show to obsessive levels, but I only continued watching episodes 20-23, hoping the earlier humanity would return. Sure, the Machine is interesting, but as I stated in the finale, it’s merely a reflection of our increasingly technological, post-9/11 society. So, a show about a machine listening to conversations of known suspects doesn’t really frighten me, ‘cus we do that already. Regarding plot development, fight scenes and  action, the show seems on point. But, regarding character development, the show treats the season’s entire 23 hours like one big 96-minute movie. In Die Hard or Terminator — two movies which had awesome character development — you could get away with limited character interaction, because there’s no time. But, in a weekly series, you need more than the Transporter-lite to keep us watching.

So, here are a couple suggestions for tweaking minor parts of the formula.

1. More Carter
Carter humanizes the all-male crew. If Nolan hadn’t upped her screen-time, we would’ve had twenty-three non-stop hours of paranoid, pasty-faced guys staring emotionlessly at a huge-screen monitor while googling the names of female victims. Yea. That’s creepy. It’s also boring.

My girl-crush on Taraji P. Henson notwithstanding, there’s a reason ratings went up during “Get Carter” and down during the undisputedly kickbutt finale. There’s a reason one-third of all fan-fiction is a Reese-Carter match-up (admittedly, the other two-thirds are Reese and Finch). Carter brings more diversity to the show, not merely in terms of gender and race, but character. I’m not saying we need “Flesh and Blood” every week and don’t force her where she isn’t needed (I don’t need the final season of Northern Exposure overflowing with John Corbett monologues). But remember “Super” and “Baby Blue”? That was a good balance.

So, don’t shirk the Carter. Embrace her!

2. More Humanity
I love the show’s icily-distant exterior. Sometimes I get tired of romantic developments. However, CBS’s procedurals are 80% action and 20% heart. Until I couldn’t stand the torture porn, I literally watched Criminal Minds for the characters including Reese’s boy band hair, Morgan’s connection with his “baby girl,” the triple anchor of Hotch, Rossi and Gideon as well as the FBI girl’s night out. I didn’t start watching NCIS until it incorporated more character development where Tony started quoting movies, Ziva brought out a flirty friendship with DiNozzo, and McGeek added a lost boy charm. I might be wrong, but that’s around the time when NCIS started experiencing the viewership spike (coupled with USA re-runs).

In terms of catching the weekly perpetrator, Finch and Reese are ice pops. Who wants to go to a party with a paranoid isolationist and his more hyper vigilant nebbish friend? Exactly. I’m not saying make them normal people, but I’m saying give me tiny glimpses I can latch onto. Reese bringing donuts in a pink box? Nice. Finch and Fusco as well as Finch and Reese in “Identity Crisis?” Good. Finch and Reese in “Super?” Hilarious. The small insight into undershirted-Reese in “Many Happy Returns” listening to the game while making old school coffee? Awesome.

I don’t watch POI for the cool new plot turns and the totally awesome knee-capping moves. OK, I do. But, I also watch for the characters. While I find it hard to believe these people can go years without sex or love, I’ll swallow that pill and accept it. No. I don’t need another soap opera. I just need minor touches  showing these characters aren’t machines. And, yea, I get it. Reese and Finch are more robotic than the system itself. But, it doesn’t make me want to watch 23 hours featuring  human robots. It just makes me want to spend more time with my computer.

While I don’t want Person of Interest 90210, I started watching because I like the characters that I see weekly (not the victim of the week who seems more fleshed out but doesn’t return). So, celebrate your character’s humanity in small doses. We’ll love you all the more for it.

Hey An, I agree with some of your comments here, James Cavaziel’s dashing hot look and awesomeness in suit is not the only reason he is so shining in this show he is acting brilliantly as Reese, and Taraji is the best choice for Carter’s character, I love Finch and Fusco too, I mean I love them all, and I am sure we will see more progress in different aspects of show in the season 2, they did awesome job for the first season, definitely not flawless but amazing for me and many other fans too,

I agree… I luv JC but his character works so much better when he is surrounded by characters that draw on his humanity or the humanity in what he’s trying to do. The gun play is fine but it gets boring if you dont have strong characters and a well written story to integrate into the fireworks.
And that’s why for me the best episodes are: Baby Blue, Wolf and Cub, Ghost, Get Carter, Legacy and Super.
And in that order. I also liked Flesh and Blood but the ones above are my fave.

I also think these episodes contain those five elements An mentioned were needed in S2 epis.
So happy Im off and can see Wolf and Cub this Thurs.

I want a shock factor…I mean Number Crunch has taught us that Reese can get shot at anytime…You know I have a crush on Carter too…I defend her like we are besties. I like Fusco, but I am really pulling for him to betray the guys. I like Finch love his character develop; I cant see nothing else I would add except maybe the show is missing a serial killer. I do not want to argue about my obsession with Fusco not being totally reformed…maybe if he went to jail for his crimes against humanity, I will have more support–bad people do good things and good people do bad things–some people do not know the difference. MORE CARTER, which would bring the humanity and she needs to kick some butt…Taraji said she wants to play a super heroine so she can gets some practice. happy postings! Look POI fans, you have to adapt change is a coming!

Ok, yep I too have a girl-crush on Carter. She’s strong and confident and trying to do the right thing. And Taraji can do drama and the humor thing. That scene in Baby Blue with Finch in the grocery store makes me laugh every time I see it. I mean come on…what’s not to like?

I also agree with you on Fusco…I think its clear he’s going to turn bad. I can see his whole character arch.
He goes bad slowly in S2 and we see Reese have to pull him back. Something like that. I’m liking Fusco more and more. He kinda grows on you. lol

Oh BTW, there are some on another board saying that Root might be FInch’s daughter. They are pointing to FInch’s comment at the end of Baby Blue about not knowing how kids will grow up as evidence. I don’t know about that one. I think they were just using that line to transition to the next scene with Elias and his father. Will be interesting to see what is motivating Root. Hope its not just money. That would be boring. They need a twist there.

June 6, 2012 at 1:06 PM

thanks for the support with the Fusco thingy…Its crazy how people do not like Carter’s character or downplay it and make Fusco out to be a hero, when he is forced to do good “sometimes.” –real people and their morals scare me. I so hope Finch has a child–I thought he was first speaking about Will when he made that statement, but I was like underground gambling hardly warrants that comment…I hope you are right, I think he would had to been very young to have “made” her–he looks like he is in his 40s and she is definitely in her 20s. If the writers can tie small seemingly insignificant statements like -you never know how kids are going to turn out-to a bigger plot, then I haven’t been thinking deep enough…I may have a new crush and thats on the writers, well I’ll put my crushing on hold to see if Carter’s character development improves!!

June 6, 2012 at 5:57 PM

Re: Carter… They spent S1 evolving her from chasing Reese to working with him and trusting him.
I don’t think they could do a lot of character development on her in the first season but I expect them to really get into it her background S2.

I know what u mean… I thought maybe Nathan’s son was really Finch’s son too. But then I realized that was reaching.
Like I said…I’m hoping the writers put some kinda twist in the whole Root after Finch thing. Because if its just to get money that will be a boring disappointment.

Can’t wait for the DVD set to come out.

June 9, 2012 at 10:41 AM

Hey Harper, DVD will be out on Septmeber 4th, and has a lovely photo Cover on it.

May 29, 2012 at 6:57 PM

As Alicia Corwin said, that is hubris, to even suggest an “improvement” on Person of Interest!!
No. It. cannot. be. improved. on.
It is perfect!

May 30, 2012 at 1:26 AM

NCISFanJJ Nice observation.

May 29, 2012 at 10:21 PM

I always use the old saw, “There is always room for improvement”. While you may please some, others will not like the direction that you go.

I see what you are saying about character development, but I really enjoy the action scenes in this show. Reese and Carter go together so well as fearless kickbutt heroes. At the same time, I am so looking forward to more backstory on Carter and what happened to her husband. And more Fusco.

Now, I am one of those that don’t need to see the “bromance” of a show. Some people crave it, but it is just not my preference. I can do without it.

By the way, I absolutely love Burn Notice. I would love to see a Burn Notice/POI crossover. Maybe Michael Weston is in NYC for some reason and becomes a POI.

May 30, 2012 at 4:12 AM

BTW I forgot to mention very interesting thing I have noticed in Ep23 Firewall, in the scene where Carter, Fusco and Reese are in the car chasing HR there is a billboard with a poster of latest Taraji’s movie, Think Like a Man, (watch the scene carefully definitely you will see it) that was nicely done, I LOVE THIS SHOW,

May 30, 2012 at 5:00 AM

Thx, Mary. Now I have to watch the ep in slow motion ;)

May 30, 2012 at 8:00 AM

thanks…I can’t wait to analyze it!

May 30, 2012 at 11:59 AM

UR Welcome, hope you enjoy it,:)

May 30, 2012 at 5:44 PM

I agree with you An. I would also love to see more humanity. I would love to see more interaction between Carter and her son Taylor, especially at home. Taylor is so cute. How long has it been since Carter’s husband died; what happened to him? I guess she has given up on dating and so has Reese. I must admit I enjoy the action and am a bit disappointed when it’s lacking. Hopefully, in season two we will see more humanity. Reese offered to buy Carter and Fusco a drink in the finale episode. Maybe that will actually happen and we get to see these three interact.

And I must ad that Reese is just too handsome for words!!!!! Can’t blame Carter for staring at Reese’s chest in the coffee shop!!!

May 31, 2012 at 1:21 AM

Thanks, Taber! I won’t lie. I don’t care about Carter or Fusco’s backstory, because they don’t relate to the overarching plot. Despite Fusco’s divorce and Carter’s widowhood, they seem to handle their relationships better than Reese’s brooding over a woman he left, didn’t marry and wouldn’t save. (Seriously, JR, you had three chances, you can’t brood when you deliberately turned your back three times).

However, I do want to see tiny sparks that the characters live despite themselves. And, maybe that’s the point. No matter how hard they try to divorce themselves from society and living, they can’t stop finding small moments of joy in it (and each other). Yes, I know, Finch today won’t look like Finch yesterday, but still …

The one thing I don’t want to read into is Reese offering to drink with people considering he doesn’t eat on the job and he’s a recovering alcoholic (something I’m waiting to re-rear its ugly head). But, yes, JC is definitely a hottie. Have you seen his facebook page (although, assumedly, it’s an FB fan-created page)? Yum!

June 6, 2012 at 6:11 PM

Just me but Carter’s backstory is important. I believe they will go into it S2. They had a lot to accomplish in S2. Get people hooked, get picked up for S2 intro characters and tell parts of many stories. They just didnt have time to get into Carter’s backstory. I was fine with what they did with her… They evolved her from a cop chasing Reese to one that helped him, trusted him and now not sure if she should trust him. That was an interesting journey. I can’t wait to get the DVD set so I can watch it slowly and really enjoy watching her character go through this process.

But yes, I too think backstories are important. They help you understand why characters do what they do.
They help you figure out where the character might go. Heck just makes them more interesting.

I wonder if whatever happened to Carter’s husband/boyfriend or whatever has anything to do with her inability to say no to Reese whenever he says she can save a life. It’s like crack…he say that to her and she throws caution to the wind.

May 31, 2012 at 8:24 AM

Like it or not, we will get the back story on Carter’s husband. That photo that Finch found in Carter’s car was there for a reason. The writers, I believe, don’t give us hints without the intention of following up. I have noticed quite a few hints for storyline developments down the road—but I could be wrong since I’m not the one at the computer. In fact, I believe a friendship is going to develop between Reese and Taylor—just a feeling from a conversation Taylor had with Carter when she dropped him off at school about being bullied. And the list goes on but no time to list them all.

And please in episode two, would someone please get Carter a new hairstylist!!!! The hairstyle in the coffee shop was horrible. She is so much prettier than that.

May 31, 2012 at 8:34 AM

Hey Taber – I’m not against a backstory on Carter or learning more about her, but I only care about the characters in the present day as they work on their cases.

The backstory on Carter’s unit worked because it showed the type of person she is. But, Carter’s husband (and Fusco’s ex) are more tangential. I want to see more character interaction, but I don’t want writers to write a script just to write it (otherwise it’ll become Nikita second season). If they write it it should relate to the plot.

While Carter’s hair is plain Jane, I like it because I have an issue with TV female cops that look like fashion models. We all know Henson is gorgeous. But, would a TV cop wear her hair in loose waves? No, she’s struggling with homeless snitches, wannabe teen mobsters and actual mobsters/gangsters, she’ll go for serviceable and non-sexual. If she’s on a date, that’s one thing, but for work, I do like the asexual NY cop look.

Thanks again for posting. I always enjoy your (and everyone’s) ideas!

May 31, 2012 at 10:17 AM

I think its because we think Carter backstory is not interesting. It seems like the writers want to make her squeaky clean as possible, which is boring for a lot of people. In reality, no one is without fault…who said Carter was even married–what if Taylor was a result of an affair with a higher rank official who was married. Yes, this will probably hurt Carter’s character for some people, but probably most will be like ok now I can relate…not that everyone has had an affair, but maybe most has done things that They are not proud of. When people are unbelievable good, then we feel judged. Give Carter some scandals or skeletons in her closet, it will get very interesting…again, the only thing I am interesting in is Fusco betraying the guys. I think Carter’s clothes are appropriate but I still do not like it…the costume designers are trying to make Carter as a cop by placing her in those clothes, but real cops do not dress like that either–so heals may be off limit, but a nice suit that is not pleated may help–maybe the writers do not want us focusing on her body or clothes, just on the character–once, more people start feeling comfortable with Carter being a police then maybe she can run 3 blocks in 3 inch heals…until then…She got my respect regardless.

May 31, 2012 at 10:38 AM

CBS called Finch the brains, Reese the muscles, and Carter the heart…so isnt the heart a “muscular” organ that acts like a brain that pumps throughout the body…okay I am thinking to much–anyway, what if Fusco was head of HR and he went undercover of his own organization to weed out the weak links…I just think he takes too much crap from Reese just because…Fusco wants the machine too–okay I am thinking too much again..,lol–happy postings

May 31, 2012 at 12:58 PM

Ok Psedo, you are very suspicious of Fusco, and him being the head of HR would be hell of a twist, but for now I really like Fusco, he is a valuable and funny asset, but I do not believe in Reese calling him just an asset after all they have been through, even I believe when in Ep 14 Reese introduced Fusco as a Friend, he kinda meant it,any way you know that I am fond of every member of our Machine team and even Zoe who helps them to get the Job done, I am her fan too (I am paige turco’s fan too) , Loved them all. :)

May 31, 2012 at 12:58 PM

Ok Pseudo, you are very suspicious of Fusco, and him being the head of HR would be hell of a twist, but for now I really like Fusco, he is a valuable and funny asset, but I do not believe in Reese calling him just an asset after all they have been through, even I believe when in Ep 14 Reese introduced Fusco as a Friend, he kinda meant it,any way you know that I am fond of every member of our Machine team and even Zoe who helps them to get the Job done, I am her fan too (I am paige turco’s fan too) , Loved them all. :) BTW did you that POSTER in Ep 23 ?

May 31, 2012 at 2:58 PM

I saw it Mary. Did you get that from tumblr? I had to rewatch it and sure enough, there it was!

June 1, 2012 at 1:14 AM

Good rmoore79, I did not get it from tumblr, actually I watch every episode several times, but It was very nice thing they did,

May 31, 2012 at 1:38 PM

Mary, you posted it twice…lol–I love villians and heroes alike…I do not dislike HR, Elias, or CIA–truly, I can go into all of those organizations and find people who are honorable to their cause…its a system–remember HR has a chain of command, therefore they have rules to prevent power struggles…anyways…I like Fusco and think he is too funny and I like Zoe, she is almost like Fusco to me–her loyalties is to Reese but a good cop may not find what she does as honorable…but her clients do. Jim said this about Fusco…he said that Fusco can change anytime and Reese gets consistency with Carter. Now Reese has a history of trusting the wrong people…but I will keep my Fusco hopes to myself until I can get some proof–lol

May 31, 2012 at 2:26 PM

Actually I was editing my comment to add my question to it, that is why it happened was not intentional,

May 31, 2012 at 3:38 PM

I know…hence that “lol”–I haven’t watched it again yet…this weekend–I want to do research to see if it was unintentionally or deliberate and if so, then why? happy postings :-)

June 1, 2012 at 1:24 AM

Pseudo I believe they like Taraji and wanted to support her film, :)

June 1, 2012 at 11:17 AM

Watched the re-airing of POI “Root Cause” last night on CBS. Found out some very interesting facts about Zoe that she sleeps around to get information. How did I draw this conclusion?, because when Finch asked her how she got the information, she gave him that look—to which Finch replied “never mind.” Also when she asked Reese to take her out for a drink that was double talk for I want to sleep with you. And Reese did not buy it. Hopefully he won’t give in to the pressure from Zoe.

Reese seems to like the “Jessica” type. Jessica was a nurse, which makes her a caregiver and hard worker. Carter is a cop and single mom raising her son and cares about people. Reese said Jessica made want to be a better person and of Carter he said that “her moral compass was pointed in the right direction” and that the world needs people like her. Don’t think Zoe fits that mold. Also Reese seems to like being the pursuer and not the pursued.

Also saw the ad for Henson’s film–really cool. Great photos of Reese on fan page, An.

June 1, 2012 at 12:59 PM

Taber, Noooooo! I think we need more flashbacks about Jessica, because we have only really seen her while she was so fragile…we really didnt get a glimpse of her character–sometimes we make a decision about people and try to protect that decision and ignore anything that jepoardize it…so before Peter and John broke her heart, she could have been a force. I do not think that characterization is befitting for Zoe. Wow!–…she may have traded favors, but I do not think its part of the work she does or a regular part of the work she does…there is a lot of ways to get information from people and most of the times it may not be legal, but I it is rarely sexual…I dont think she has to do that…she’s a force also.

June 6, 2012 at 6:03 PM

I know I’m fighting a losing battle but I say please nooooooo more Jessica flashbacks. So tired of them.
Ok we know who she is and what happened to her…let’s move on. If they wanna bring her up again wait until
they have the convo between Reese and Carter regarding his past where she shows him the pic. You gotta know that’s coming up in S2. Otherwise I’m good with no more Jessica.

June 6, 2012 at 8:15 PM

Sorry…there will be more flashbacks of Jess. I just want to see her character not just moments leading up to her death or when she was fragile…what about Jess that made Reese love her?–yes, the writers are waiting to create a scene around the picture–it may not be romantic in nature; it may be just to pull Reese back from the brink of madness to give him something to hold on too. The only reason I would have only kept to picture is to help–but it may also hurt him because Agent Donnelley will see the service uniform…fyi–most military records are on a hard drive especially from the time Reese served–how else would Finch know all about him… The writers are doing good keeping things unpredictably predictble–when I mentioned character development with Carter, I meant learning more about who she is, she basically went from being a respected detective to a paper pusher for Reese and Finch…so thats not what I call development–

June 7, 2012 at 12:28 AM

She was a detective that was sometimes saving people but now she is able to really save most all the people targeted with Reese and team machine. What I saw this season was a woman that went from chasing Reese to working with him and trusting him. That evolution was interesting for me. I have a feeling that whatever happened in her past makes her more prone to help Reese if she sees that she can save a life. Yeah that’s the back story that I want to see.
And yes I would like to know about Taylor’s father. I have a feeling they will drop in little tid bits. It will be a slow reveal.

Well..regarding Jessica… I think they will likely show her more. I’m honestly tired of it. I dont really like the character. Unlike the other characters they haven’t made her someone that I want to know more about. I don’t feel invested in her. I am in our regular group. Hell…I’d like to know more about Zoe more than Jessica.

See that’s the thing with some writers. They think that just because they put a pretty face on screen beside the show’s hero give their life some tragic scenario…that we will be drawn to them. No, doesnt work like that.
You have to make the audience like them…and feel invested in them in order to ask for more.
As far as Im concerned they haven’t done that for me. I feel like they are pushing Jessica on me and I dont like when writers do that.

June 1, 2012 at 4:00 PM

I was speaking about Jessica -sometimes we make a decision about people and try to protect that decision and ignore anything that jepoardize it…I was thinking about the character similiarities…Reese abandon someone who showed him how to be a better person to protect everyone else and Carter leaves her son to do the same thing, sometimes late into the night…to protect someone else. I can not understand this type of selflessness and at the same time recklessness. These two individuals had to have been so violated that their pursuit for justice has trumped love and personal responsibility…yes they thrive in their professional life, but their personal life suffers–honestly…how can they get together if neither one will be able to put the other first? Yes. We need both of their backstory to understand their current behavior and motivation.

June 7, 2012 at 2:28 AM

For the time being, I think we have enough flashbacks about Jessica. I understand Reese’s remorse and sadness in failing to save her but their actual relationship appears to have been so brief that I really don’t see what more they can tell us about Reese and Jessica. If Reese becomes romantically involved with someone, then it might make sense to flash back to his memories of Jessica. It might also be interesting discovering what drew Reese to Jessica.

Personally, I’m more interested in the past and present lives of Carter and Fusco. For instance, what do they do when they not working. I would like to see a little of thier home life.

I thought it was very powerful seeing Reese in his tiny apartment. That short little shot told us a lot about Reese. His life appears to be pretty solitary if not lonely when he’s not working. ( I know he plays board games with the blind guy but it still seems like he probably need more human contact in his personal life.)

June 7, 2012 at 9:42 AM

I do not find Jess interesting….I find Reese fascination with her interesting. What is it about Jess? I think if we get more backstory about Jess, then we will know more about Reese. I do not feel like she is forced on me; I feel like Zoe and Fusco is being pushed on me…they have a lot of people who can do the same work, so who is expendable? The work Zoe did, Carter or Fusco probably could have figured it out…that the therapist is not who she say she is–but Zoe couldn’t have done Carter’s or Fusco’s work…so why bring her back on? I like Zoe, watched epi 6 again, and liked her even more; I seen her vulnerability and strength which is attractive…Fusco–what is his purpose on the show? I truly believe Fusco decided to help Reese when Carter put that gun in his face…other than that he will always play for the winning team…remember epi 2. I agree to disagree about Jess; character and personality is what makes people attractive to me not their faces.

June 7, 2012 at 9:23 PM

While I think we probably have enough info regarding Jessica for the time being, I definitely prefer to learn more about Jessica than Zoe. The show is full of so many “badasses” females: Carter, Stanton,Zoe, and Alicia before she was killed. So it’s kind of a nice contrast to watch and learn about Jessica. During the finale, Zoe obtaining information from the guy posing as one of the doctor’s patients just didn’t ring true to me. What criminal is going to sing like a bird when some woman accosts him out of the blue and begin drilling him for information?

June 8, 2012 at 1:09 AM

Honestly, I’m bored with the Jessica character. How much more do you need to know other than Reese over-identified with her and went off the deep end when she died? And the writers had better leave her dead. Leave the woman to Rest In Peace and don’t bring back dead characters! That includes Ingram as well! There is plenty of material to work with for years without having to resort to a lazy writer’s trick to boost ratings.

Now, as far as Fusco and Zoe are concerned, I like Fusco and look forward to seeing him and Carter work together. I did get sense the she will not totally trust him in Season 2. Just a feeling I got at the end of the finale. The look on her face was that of caution. Zoe is okay, but I don’t really need to see her in every episode. Three episodes a year is plenty.

June 8, 2012 at 8:13 PM

I agree, don’t need to see more of Zoe. Her character is not believable. They are trying to force her upon us. Could be to show a contrast between Zoe and Carter and who Reese will eventually end up with. Watched the reairing again of Wolf and Cub last night–one of my favorite episodes. Two statements had me thinking, when Reese and the kid were in the coffee shop the kid made a comparison to Reese and a Samuri stating that they kill themselves but Reese has chosen to roam the earth and help people; don’t go there writers. And close to the end of the episode in the car the kid said to Reese that he, Reese, would find a home soon–hint hint. Who will Reese find a home with? Zoe? I don’t think so. Carter–absolutely!,

June 8, 2012 at 8:30 PM

Hey, Reese was in love with Jessica plain and simple–it was more than just fascination. She was the love of his life and he did not fight for her but let her go into the arms of Peter who eventually killed her. I love Fusco. The show needs Fusco because he keeps us in touch with HR. And I enjoy the relationship between Reese and Fusco. Sometimes I get upset at Reese for the way he speaks to Fusco. Who is Reese to judge Fusco. Here is a guy who made a living killing people and as he admitted on the episode Wolf and Cub that he also killed not only bad guys but good guys as well. (yes, I went there). Don’t get me wrong I love Reese’ character and as a hopeless romantic would love to see him hook up with Carter, but not too soon. But he should ease up on Fusco. I don’t think Fusco knows as much about Reese and his past like Carter does. Would be interesting to watch when Fusco finds out that Reese was a killer for the CIA.

June 8, 2012 at 9:07 PM

Can love be a fascination? Because I never said Reese was just fascinated with Jess and not in love with her…so a person can be both in love and fascinated with another person or maybe that fascination stems from love or vice versus–okay, I am not fascinated with Reese love for Jess–seen that type of love before maybe even displayed it in the past, I am interested in his fascination with Jess–why did he fall in love with her, what is it about Jess that is worthy of Reese’s love and guilt…I thought I was clear, but whatever…
so I guess HR is still around and Fusco did not breakup the complete bad cop party–why did Fusco meet with the HR guys anyway? What assignment did they give him, because it was not clear [to me] and I am sure they agreed to meet with him for a reason? The NYPD cop worked with the FBI, so who the hell was Fusco texting…we know who Carter was texting–so why not show us who Fusco was texting? Whatever.

June 9, 2012 at 10:18 AM

Hey everyone, and I am with you taber about Fusco, I really like Fusco, and Kevin Chapman is made for this role.

June 9, 2012 at 10:28 AM

I like seeing Zoe around, Reese and Finch trust her that is why they ask her to do things for them, they are good friends.

June 9, 2012 at 2:08 PM

I did not hear Reese or Finch call Zoe a good friend…so Zoe is a good friend, but Carter and Fusco is an asset…thats interesting–Plus, I was speaking more about why the writers have her around–not to befriend these two, I am going to go out on a limb and say Reese is friend to his misery and Finch is friends with the machine–please “note” just because you are not friends do not make you enemies…so no comments about me calling these two enemies will be appreciated, thank you in advance–but what type of “asset” is Zoe and what can she provide that the other two assets can not–this show has not been about friendship…maybe after the characters evolve, but not now or in the past has these relationships been based on friendship.
This show has been able to make the ones who protect us look incompetent and corrupt, but let a physical cripple man and a emotional cripple man become heroes…I believe the best way to continue to present these two is to make them seem overly competent, because they need to be to outsmart the well-trained police, FBI, and CIA and raise the competency of our everyday heroes on the show–because cop shows stay around for a long time, so not accurately displaying the cops will not help ratings…ie, Reese walking in the police station standing 6’2 with a police suit and hat on and no one notices him…the height alone is enough for someone to pay attention and he has a hat on in the indoors…is that not odd?

June 9, 2012 at 2:21 PM

Hey Pseudo, Okay they did not call Zoe a good friend but Finch called her an old friend in E:23, before her meeting with John talking about Caroline Turing’s clients,

June 9, 2012 at 2:36 PM

Well, I do not believe and I think you would agree that John does not consider Fusco and Carter just as assets, but the Machine does, actually they are kinda friends now, all of them, and they need each other’s help, or that is just my take, I cannot help it I love this show, and I trust the writers.

June 10, 2012 at 7:02 PM

I did not say I didnt like the show and just because I questioned the writers depiction of cops doesnt make me less a fan than the person who doesnt question the writers…wow, I think I am more like Finch than I realized at first.

June 9, 2012 at 6:57 PM

Reese does not consider Fusco a friend. However, he does consider Carter a friend. Reese doesn’t seem to mind when Carter scolds him over the phone or in person. But he doesn’t take too kindly when Fusco challenges him or tries to defend himself. Reese constantly talks down to Fusco and does not treat him at all with respect. I saw an interview with Fusco and he said he doesn’t think he’ll ever get a thank you from Reese.

I agree that the writers gave no indication that Carter was married–or if he’s even deceased or probably just missing in action. Or if he has some unknown connection with Reese (Oh OK that’s a bit of a stretch!!!) Would be interesting to find out in season 2. Can’t wait. Henson said in an interview to hold on to your seats because there are a lot of twists and turns!

June 10, 2012 at 8:06 AM

I have noticed that Reese actually thanked Fusco in E:18 after he saved Finch’s life, and even called him reluctantly a friend when he introduced fusco to that kid in E:14, but after all they have been through I believe they care for each other now, but the future is unknown.

June 10, 2012 at 6:55 AM

WOW I watched “Killing Zoe” again last night. I must admit that I actually noticed some things. Reese in killing Zoe was definitely attracted to her big time. When Finch asked Reese who would want to take out Zoe (meaning who would want to kill her), Reese response was “who wouldn’t.” meaning he would love to take her out. When Zoe was going up the stairs Reese did not take his eyes off her. There was definitely desire there and in the restaurant he flirted with Zoe when he asked her “Where are we going.” Although i’m not into Zoe’s character she’s a good actress and literally takes every scene she’s in–even from Reese. When Reese looks at Zoe there is desire. I wonder if Reese is afraid of getting close to Zoe. I paid very close attention to her other appearances and Reese seems nervous around her almost deliberately pushing her away because maybe she could steal his heart.

When Reese looks at Carter it’s more of a caring look–almost as if he has to protect her. In an interview Reese said that he’s like Carter’s older brother. And yet he obviously flirts with Carter there is no doubt about that. The writers could go anywhere with this. Let’s not rule out Zoe as a love interest for Reese–it’s quite possible. I would still love to see a Reese carter hook up, but I’m not the one holding the pen.

Also I like that Nolan doesn’t use “”barbie dolls” for these leading female roles. These women are older, beautiful and confident.

June 10, 2012 at 7:52 AM

I think it is not just Reese who seems to be nervous around Zoe, dear JC is also really impressed by paige turco’s beauty and talent, and Yes Reese is protective of Carter more like a big brother who really cares, and I enjoy Reese and Zoe interactions, I like seeing them not particularly as lovers, and this show has brilliant cast.

June 10, 2012 at 5:26 PM

If JC said he was attracted to Paige, point me to where the article or video is…I doubt he would ever admit she exist outside of a being a person, he is extremely religious and very protective of respecting his wife–so if he seems nervous I doubt if its about her physical characteristics or acting skills. He has acted with women who have far superior attributes than Zoe and refused love scenes in fear of disrepecting his wife…ie Ashley Judd in High Crimes. If he seems comfortable around Carter, its maybe because he doesnt susupect the writers will go there with the characters.

June 10, 2012 at 9:33 AM

That’s because Caviezel sells it as an actor. He has chemistry with anyone. I would like to point out that everyone makes very good points here, but the one constant I keep coming back to is that Reese has had more onscreen interaction with Carter in this show. The writers may be headed to a Reese/Zoe hookup, but I don’t feel it will last. I still keep going back to the picture that Carter kept and what the writers plan to do with that. You know that they don’t put anything in an episode gratuitously. Just look at the big picture. (No pun intended!)

June 10, 2012 at 5:32 PM

I agree it seems like every comment made within this show holds a deeper meaning…sometimes the meaning is delivered almost immediately and sometimes its a couple of episodes away and we have to re-remember what we saw that lead to the discovery…I can not wait until the great reveal–Who will be Reese’s love connection?

June 10, 2012 at 5:14 PM

sorry…I do not see desire in Reese eyes when he sees Zoe–[to me] when he said who wouldn’t want to take her–although he uttered the words, it did not reach his eyes or body language…him staring at her looked forced.

June 10, 2012 at 7:39 AM

Hey An, I read your blog again about could Reese and Carter hook up. And I must agree wholeheartedly. Nolan I don’t think will go there. Teasing his viewers is a great way to win the battle for ratings. I have decided to get off the Carter-Reese romance, hook up–whatever bandwagon. After studying the films, Reese’s “fascination” with Carter went from flirting, to caring, to just one of the boys now. Yes, he respects her and says “thanks” and once in a while will use double talk–but that’s it. Sorry fans, but let’s take a reality check—I HAD TO.

June 10, 2012 at 9:20 AM

Lol, Taber. I noticed you revised your position in recent postings and I wondered why.

However, this week I saw Wolf and Cub. I loved seeing Reese slide into Carter’s backseat, clearly enjoying screwing with her. When Carter asked about his information, I love the grin he gave her basically saying “You know I’m not going to tell you, but I love that you asked.” Additionally, I loved the staging in the end gun fight with Reese over Carter and Carter sliding up to share a glance before pulling the final arrest as well as Reese stating twice “let me worry about Carter” to Fusco (implying, yea, he’s the only one who’ll worry about Carter) and I loved the frequency of Reese’s calls to Carter in between. So, with Wolf Cub, Super, Get Carter, Legacy, Numbers and Flesh and Blood, it looks like there’s something there.

But, inexplicably, the writers pulled back 270%. All of a sudden, Reese no longer calls Carter directly but through Finch. Additionally, we never see the two share a scene together. When they do, Reese is a coldhearted jerk.

I suspect the writers wanted to stop speculations so they pulled the two back apart. Next season, we’ll probably see Fusco and Carter work more closely together and we’ll probably see a Reese and Zoe hookup. I’ll definitely cover POI, but I hope the warmth between the four returns.

Henson and Cavaziel have amazing chemistry. While Cavaziel and Turco don’t share that same chemistry, Zoe is the type of woman Reese, as a character, is interested in. Between Jessica, the pretty blonde woman (who he only remembers in bed), and Zoe, the pretty sensual woman with blonde highlights, we know Reese’s type. Additionally, Zoe lives in between worlds making it easier for “off the grid” Reese to have a relationship with her. With a son, Carter remains tethered permanently to the legal, “real” world.

I’ve noticed the on-screen couples I typically “root” for never get together, including Mary and Marshall on In Plain Sight. Whenever actors have natural chemistry, I want to see where that goes (without forcing it or upsetting the original story). Ideally, I’d love to see a POI:S4 where Reese and Carter walk off planning on continuing to fight crime together.

I love that everyone on the show has a contingency plan. Allegedly Finch had one for if he ever disappeared. Additionally, Carter’s contingency guardian plan for her son includes her mother. So, ideally if S:4 rolls around with Carter’s son of legal age and preparing for college, we could see Reese and Carter growing closer together and enabling Carter to disappear. Will it happen?

No. But, Nolan sought out Henson for a reason. You don’t deliberately offer a role to a film actress if you don’t have an idea for her character arc.

June 10, 2012 at 9:57 AM

Hey An, Taraji is Awesome actress no doubt, I like her too but there is no chemistry between Reese and Carter.

June 10, 2012 at 10:35 AM

Mary, we’ll have to agree to disagree (at least until the Fall :)

June 10, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Fine with me An, and I am happy seeing new comments here. ;)

June 10, 2012 at 8:25 AM

THANK YOU TABER!! Well I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Zoe WILL BE Reese’s next love interest. Carter is part of the three man team and that’s it. Hooking carter up with Reese makes no sense. Anyway i do believe Reese cares for her as a good cop and will continue to protect her. She is also a good actress and very beautiful, but there is no chemistry between her and Reese.

i also like the fact that these women are older; was surprised to learn that Henson is 41 and Reese is 43. Carter looks great for her age. anyway, one of the greatest shows to hit tv in years. continue to enjoy the ride season 2 will not disappoint from what I’ve heard.

June 10, 2012 at 9:49 AM

very good points Debbie.

June 10, 2012 at 9:57 AM

Hey Debbie –

While I do think season two will head for a Zoe-Reese match-up, I don’t see the chemistry between the leads. But, I suspect we’ll all continue to debate the Zoe/Reese/Carter triangle until Season two starts up!

June 10, 2012 at 10:03 AM

Debbie, I respect your opinion, but I would like to ask the question: Did you see Reese flirting with Carter? A blind person could see that. And, if he cares for her “like a brother”, would a brother flirt with his sister? If my brother did that, I would run the other way! At least, in American society, siblings don’t get together in “that way”.

June 10, 2012 at 5:55 PM

I agree with you…brothers do not flirt with their sisters in that way. Everytime I hear that Reese is like a brother to Carter, my stomach turns and I feel like vomiting. I think of the eye contact and the flirting and all I can think is…ill and I am glad my siblings are affectionate w/o the eye contact and making comments like to each its own referring to handcuffs in the backseat of a car or even a woman after my own heart and looked deeply into her eyes. So people who go on and say he is like a brother to Carter, should maybe define a brother and sister relationship for me–even the most liberal tv brothers and sisters do not blur the lines. The only time I felt like Reese acting like a big brother was with the lawyer on epi 12–the only person who got a hug. It seemed like did not intend to flirt with her, she just took it that way and checked him quickly…this doesnt mean that I think Reese and Carter will get together, but it doesnt disproves it either.

June 10, 2012 at 10:39 AM

You know, I was afraid discussion would fall off in the summer with the re-runs on TV, but I’m glad to see it hasn’t!!!

June 10, 2012 at 11:59 AM

An, I think you answered the reasons for me in your comments as to why I switched positions. I can say this much these writers are clever and very very good nothing is said, or implied without a reason or future story lines. If we don’t watch or listen carefully we will miss a lot. I also noticed the staging at the end in the gunfight with Reese standing tall and too sexy over Carter and having Carter look up at him. I played that over in my mind trying to figure out what the writers were trying to imply. Is it a “Wolf” protecting his “cub” or the sign of something else! Also noticed that Reese is always saying he’ll worry about Carter or handle carter (not sure what’s being implied). I remember a scene when Carter was being questioned about Reese. The agent said to Carter “So he cares about you.” And Carter’s response was “I doubt that he gives a dam about me.” Which could also have some meaning for later episode.

However, in studying the characters I find that Reese is very comfortable almost relaxed and at ease in Carter’s company. When he smiles at Carter his eyes literally smile as well. John Reese probably has one of the most beautiful smiles i have ever seen and those blue eyes. (I read an article where in high school JC was voted as the guy with the most beautiful eyes.) When Reese looks at Carter there is a softness almost a tenderness in his body language. When he’s in Zoe’s presence he takes on a different persona–almost animal like. It’s almost seems like he’s fighting really hard to hold back something (just my opinion of course.)

That’s why I can’t rule out a hook up with Reese and Zoe. And think about it–what if Carter’s husband (or Taylor’s father) is still alive but only missing in action? We know nothing about this guy. And how many more episodes are they going to show without Reese in a relationship. The likely person is Zoe.

June 10, 2012 at 6:08 PM

Reese is comfortable around Carter and seems [to me] uncomfortable around Zoe. I like Zoe and if Reese (not JC) is holding something back then why? I think there suppose to be a mutual attraction and Reese trying to fight off his attraction hasnt been evident to me…he does seem uneasy around her, but chemistry is something that is natural–you can act it out nor can you hide it, it just has to be there…I do not see that chemistry with Zoe, so I disagree Jim has chemistry with anyone.

June 10, 2012 at 3:58 PM

I could see a “hookup” between Reese and Zoe but I don’t see a long term relationship. I believe a hookup is more likely than a relationship because: (1) Zoe is basically trying to give it away; (2) Reese is a guy; (3)He doesn’t look at Zoe like he does Carter and Jessica with tenderness in his eyes (love, perhaps); and (4) it seems like the powers that be have also cooled down the interactions between John and Zoe. (I really just believe this show doesn’t want the complication of relationships.)

For instance, when Zoe was a person of interest, Reese said suggestive things that indicated his sexual interest and now he barely acknowledges her presence and Finch also does most of the communicating between the pair. Finch is also the person that brings in Zoe and not John. (I guess you can argue that this might be due to Reese’s nervousness, but that’s a hard sell for me given that Reese is a handsome, 40 something man. I think he knows how to approach a woman if he wants her.)

What I get is that Reese, as a “normal” hetrosexual male, “should” be attracted to Zoe as the show goes out of its way to tell us that Zoe is “attractive”: bright colored coats, full face of makeup; breasts on full display; very high heel shoes and tight, clinging dresses. It’s almost overkill. I partly think the character of Zoe is to dissuade the Finch/Reese shippers. (She literally stripped while in the presence of Reese.)

Carter’s sexuality, on the other hand, is downplayed. In fact, I’ve noticed that the show runners often appear to try and conceal Carter’s body. You’ll rarely see Carter whithout a coat or blazer. (Taraji has a great body). I respect the characters of Carter and Zoe. It takes all types to make life interesting, but if I was thinking like a man I would say that Zoe overzealously protrays the “sexpot” and thus appears to be “booty call” material but that maybe all that Zoe wants which is fine since girls like to have fun too.

Reese or Carter might have a fling or two with some other persons, but ultimately if the show explores a long term relationship, I believe it will be Reese and Carter. Why? One, Reese is always hinting that he wants a family and he has already taken upon himself to look out for both Carter and her son. (In “Flesh and Blood,” he knew where Taylor went to school because he keeps tabs on him as well as his mom). Two, he literally goes bat shit crazy when someone messes with Carter and hence earned himself the nickname of Carter’s “guadian angel” by one of former head honchos of HR.

The way he takes care of Carter, the woman that was unknowingly implicit in almost getting him killed and can still cause all type of legal trouble for him is irrational as is love itself. : )

Third, Carter and Reese have a boatload of chemistry. About the only time either of the two laughs or is carefree is in the presence of one another. Moreover, the two already act like an old married couple (Carter’s nagging,
Reese’s teasing.) He’s already told Carter, that basiscally no matter what, he’s not going to leave her alone, whether she likes him or not. (Get Carter). Even catching a couple of bullets, partly due to her, didn’t change Reese’s stance on leaving Carter alone. (if that’s not love, I don’t know what is.) I can’t imagine any woman that Reese dates putting up with this need to protect Carter and family.

Fourth, both Carter and Zoe were past numbers, but when Carter was a number after Zoe, he stated that Carter was not “just another number.” So Reese elevated Carter above all of the other numbers he protected including Zoe.

Fifth, Reese almost cried when Carter told him to go away in “Baby Blue” and kept calling her despite her ignoring his calls.

Due to the above, I’m still on the Reese/Carter ship. Zoe may make it interesting, but ultimately I see Carter and Reese. I wouldn’t mind seeing a termporary love interest for Carter other than Reese. We need a catalyst to set of Reese/Carter’s jealousy. Happy watching.

June 10, 2012 at 4:57 PM

Agree Reagan, on all counts. And, someone mentioned Zoe as a “love interest”. I seriously doubt that Reese could fall in love with someone like her. More like a hook-up, but the love would be one sided, mainly she would fall for him. If you look at the bigger picture, overall the whole season, you will see that he was protective of Carter but he just doesn’t seem to look at Zoe in the same way. Now, do I think Zoe is good at what she does? Yes, but she does not possess the same skill set as Carter.

It will take more than what the writers have done during the last 2 episodes to convince me that they have deserted a possible Reese/Carter pairing. Faith! I still have faith that they will revisit this in season 2. My hunch is that the writers will use Zoe to help Reese find Finch, while Carter and Fusco will have to solve the POI of the week until Finch comes back. Can’t muck up the storyline with romance, can we?

I really hate to bring this up, but I still believe that there are some that are just not ready for a Reese/Carter pairing due to a racial bias on a sub-conscience level. And that is sad because I had hoped that society had evolved past that. Just my two cents.

June 10, 2012 at 6:40 PM

I agree with Reagan, too…thats what I have been noticing the whole time. Then we have people been playing down Carter and Reese’s relationship and at the same time enhancing Reese and Zoe’s relationship when Zeese interaction has been stifled and because Zoe has showed up in a few episodes then she must be a love interest for Reese when Finch has called her every single time and he has called her a friend, not Reese. That is not relationship building.
I do not see Reese having a temporary thing with a woman…when he falls, he falls hard and he seems half way there with Carter…why would the writers surround Carter with Reese? Why Reese does not want her to be alone and he will play big daddy to her and always be there for her…thats a big job and I am sure she is not the only woman doing good things and who is alone?… shouldnt her man be doing that for her?
I think I’ve seen this dynamic on General Hospital (yes, I am a fan of the show with a love and hate relationship with the show)…okay Jason, the hitman has been in serious relationships with chicks on the show, but his most intense relationship is with Carly who he will dropped any and everything to protect…although these two are best friends, they did at one time have a thing…women come and go but Carly is always there and sometimes help the women go on their merry way–but to put these two together in a romantic relationship would be tragic and less interesting, but I do not think either Carly or Jason know why they are drawn to each other and neither really wants to know…okay to make my point, I think Reese and Carter will have sort of an unofficial relationship that doesnt necessary include “sex” scenes but may become the most important relationship on the show…CBS says Carter is the heart and the body can not live without the heart–the muscle will not get oxygen and blood and the brain will eventually die too.

June 10, 2012 at 5:30 PM

Valid points on all counts above. I was thinking the same thing, moore79, that Zoe is the only logical person to assist Reese in finding Finch. Not sure Reese can do it alone. However Reese doesn’t know how to operate the machine so I don’t think there will be another number. Finch is the new number. If Zoe is the one to assist Reese, I think this will pull the two together. Zoe also has a troubled past and when Reese talked about it you could see the pain and hurt in Zoe’s eyes. She’s tough and hard on the outside for a reason. But I think underneath is a woman that’s hurting. How do we not know, that Reese could be drawn to her on another level. Just being real guys.

Season two, hopefully will answer a lot of questions.

Hey Reagan, you’re really good–almost had me convinced, but I have to go with my gut that it will be Zoe.

June 11, 2012 at 12:47 AM

Well said Taber.

June 10, 2012 at 5:47 PM

Must disagree. Reese is protective of Carter because she is a good and caring person/cop. Remember Reese said that her moral compass was pointed in the right direction. Reese spent most of his life taking out the bad guys, thus when he sees someone like Carter as he said in “Get Carter” “there are certain people this world needs or something like that. Reese is a man, and naturally men will flirt. I remember something Snow said to Carter that Reese uses pretty women like her to get what he wants and then dumps them. Reese can care about protecting Carter and still be in a love relationship with Zoe.

June 10, 2012 at 5:53 PM

Do you seriously believe that Reese will “love” Zoe? If he uses pretty women, that means he uses ALL women.

Like I said before, it will take more than a few episodes of season 2 to convince me that they will not revisit a Reese/Carter pairing.

June 10, 2012 at 6:42 PM

Excellently done…He will use all women, but he hasnt really used Zoe–Finch has!

June 11, 2012 at 1:16 AM

Exactly, and Reese was kinda the same with Cara his partner, the scene they were in that hotel room holding a guy in the bathroom, when Snow paid them a visit, the look on Reese’s face when he took Cara’s gun, and that very sweet smile he gave Zoe when he was opening that door with paperclip, Reese likes these women and they like him back, but Zoe said something important, she said I do not think there is a woman out there alive that could fix you John, Zoe Definitely knows about Jessica and kinda respect that John should get over her feelings for her to be ready for another relationship, which I believe is not going to happen any soon, having said that I would like seeing them together more, and I really like different opinions here.

June 11, 2012 at 1:33 AM

I agree with you Debbie.

June 11, 2012 at 8:46 PM

So Debbie, you’re saying that John has Carter on a pedestal. (i.e She has a strong moral compass, is a good person, etc.) In my experience, that’s one of the first step of a man falling for a woman. He convinces himself that she is special and unique in some aspect.

June 11, 2012 at 10:40 AM

Finch considers Zoe a friend. He told Reese that he hired a friend to help us.
Reese has never contacted Zoe. Finch has. Let’s see if Reese contacts Zoe to assist him in finding Finch. Remember in killing Zoe, she said to Reese at the end you have my number.

June 11, 2012 at 12:04 PM

I think Reese will call Zoe for help to find finch, because as we know Zoe is the first one who knows what happened, and maybe somehow Cara will show up and help Reese.

June 11, 2012 at 2:24 PM

I would not want Cara helping Reese. This is the woman who did not think twice about shooting her partner. I am sure she will resurface again on POI, but not as ally for Reese. At least not until some things are settled. And we need to find out what she did with Snow.

June 11, 2012 at 11:37 PM

Hey Debbie, Cara possibly retired Agent Snow, after a special interrogation, like they way she interrogated that guy in the beginning of E:20.

June 11, 2012 at 3:04 PM

Hey An I have a question for you since you brought up the “toning down” of the scenes between Carter and Reese. I have noticed that in the first half of the season up to Number Crunch, they dressed Carter more fashionably and what seems to me to be sexier clothes. They did the same with Reese. He wore different colored shirts and even leather. So, it would seem that the powers that be wanted to tone both of them down. I noticed that the last six episodes or so have Carter dressed in drab tones and clothes. Now, I know that as a detective, she should wear clothes that reflect the true nature of her job. So I am okay with that decision, as long as that is the real reason they did it. But my paranoia kicks in when I see that they began dressing both Reese and Carter in more drab clothing. What do you make of this? Is it my paranoia, or does anyone else see that as well?

June 12, 2012 at 9:48 PM

Hey RM,

I responded below -

June 12, 2012 at 12:58 AM

The writers want to make a clear distintion between zoe and carter. And nolan said he wanted to give reese a batman look

June 12, 2012 at 8:20 AM

It’s as if the writers want to ask their viewers-who will Reese pick. Will Reese pick the very glamorous Zoe or the more conservative Carter. In answer to a couple responses above: Cara probably already retired Snow, or he’s probably bled to death by now. I guess we’ll see flash backs of how she did it—unless she removed the bullet herself, which I doubt.
Reese’s name actually came up to play Batman, but Nolan wanted him for POI. That is why we now see Reese in the long black coat, black leather gloves and the white shirts. In my opinion I like that look for Reese. Can’t say I like the “plain Jane” look for Carter. But then she is a cop on the job, which makes sense. Maybe Nolan will give Carter a coming out party and knock our socks off—including Reese’s.

The “Big Brother” refers to Reese protecting Carter like a brother would protect his litter sister from danger—not in a sibling sort of way—that would be disgusting.

Reese does not have a problem with love scenes. He just doesn’t like anything too explicit. I saw him in love scenes with Jennifer Lopez and they were very hot and he was shirtless. However, nothing was revealed from the waist down. But it was very obvious what was happening between the two.

June 12, 2012 at 9:13 AM

JC was considered for Superman Returns too, but because of his famous movie role, which I really love that too, it didn’t happen, but I love Nolan for casting him for Reese. Angel eyes was a beautiful movie, and I agree with you about those scenes.

June 12, 2012 at 9:48 AM

Taber, sorry, but I can’t get past the brother aspect of the comment. One doesn’t refer to oneself in a sibling aspect, while making sexual innuendo to that same person. If my brother did that to me, I would either stop speaking to him, or set him straight very quickly. The handcuff comment was sexual innuendo, like it or not. Now, JC may have misunderstood the role and spoke of Reese and Carter’s relationship being like a big brother, but I highly doubt that the writers meant it that way, seeing how much Reese was flirting with Carter and how hard he worked to get him back on his side and working with him and Finch. I will always see the word brother in the sibling context. To make my point very clear, I googled the word “brother” and here is the definition: “A man or boy in relation to other sons and daughters of his parents”.

I can say one thing…the writers were very sneaky to leave the viewers hanging with that one.

June 12, 2012 at 11:59 AM

I heard other reports that he does have a problem with love scenes and with JLO, he advised the director no woman breast will touch him other than his wife…having read that I watched the movie again and it didnt look so hot–it looked like he was uncomfortable and he wasnt acting…but I do not want to continue to debate about the man’s personal life.

June 12, 2012 at 1:16 PM

IT was hot. The love scene with Jessica–that was not hot!

June 12, 2012 at 1:18 PM

And I totally respect JC. And admire him for his convictions. To me shows like Scandal are off the charts when it comes to love scenes. Don’t see Reese doing those kind of scenes in POI. There is a difference.

June 12, 2012 at 1:48 PM

And talking about lovely JC’s acting power not personal life, I would love to see him in a Comedy movie, he has that unrevealed funny side, that his fans definitely noticed in his interviews, JC is AWESOME, and I was thinking maybe roote is a former CIA agent too, and I am really missing POI.

June 12, 2012 at 9:48 PM

I can’t believe we’ve hit 93 posts already. Let’s see if we can hit 100 before end of week!

@Mary – That’s interesting. In recent interviews Henson mentioned her desire to do more comedy. Although I’ve always seen her as someone who can do both, with JC, I’ve only seen him in intense roles: Private Idaho, Count of Monte Cristo, and POI (or intense interviews); so I’ve never considered seen him outside the dramatic vein.

@Rmoore79 – To play devil’s advocate, let’s not forget Reese flirts with EVERYBODY, even Fusco. In Wolf and Cub, Reese flirts with Carter because it flusters her and he clearly enjoys razzing her with his charm. He simultaneously throws the Reese charm her way because she won’t expect it to go anywhere. Yet, flirting with Zoe takes on a different connotation. Knowing the type of controlled person Reese is, if Reese openly flirts with her, Zoe would expect he wanted to take it to the next level. As the show heads for a S2 Zoe-Reese relationship, we probably won’t see Reese show interest until he’s actually ready to seal the deal.

Regarding the costuming, I liked the increasingly muted clothing. Too many shows put the men of mystery in leather jackets and the heroine du jour in heels and fab hair. Unlike theatre, most TV shows are focused on looks first and portraying character second. I like POI’s costuming department because it’s more like theatre. The clothes reflect the character first (and their looks second).

Reese’s tailored suit screams CIA. Carter and Fusco’s clothes scream local cops on a budget with little time. Similarly, Zoe’s heels, makeup and hair reflect a deliberately aggressive sexuality. It’s her job to look good (so that she can do her job).

@everyone – Agreed, JC’s personal life won’t help us. But, um, has anyone seen his Jim Cavaziel Facebook page? Unfortunately, he took down the photos showing off his highly toned torso. All the same, JC’s a very pretty man.

June 12, 2012 at 9:54 PM

Taber, I think you’re over-analyzing. I don’t think the different dress styles of Carter and Zoe is the show’s way of asking viewers who they prefer between Carter and Zoe to be with Reese. The show is about so much more. In addition, Zoe is a recurring character who was/is on the show for a few episodes so there is no competition. With the already limited screen time for main characters like Carter and Fusco and even Finch to a certain degree, I hope that will remain the case.

June 12, 2012 at 10:11 PM

But, Anon, that’s why we’re here, to overanalyze to our heart’s content! :)

I remember teaching a film class on the BBC’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. One of my students gave an excellent presentation analogizing Elizabeth Bennet’s green wardrobe with verdant nature. Later she discovered that the director allowed Jennifer Ehle to pick her own clothes and questioned her theory’s validity.

While it’s possible Ehle deliberately picked green because she felt it represented her character’s outdoor tendency, at the same time, the great thing about TV isn’t just what the writer/director/etc. intend but what we, the viewing audience pull from it!

I definitely love reading your comments. Although I dislike that Zoe threatens the Careese-pairing, I like the Zoe character and I won’t stand in the Zeese way when it happens!

But, the more I think about it, it’s easier for Reese to have an intimate relationship with Zoe because she won’t expect anything from him. Zoe’s the only one who hasn’t betrayed (or been betrayed by Reese yet). Reese expects Carter and Finch to drink the koolaid, but not Zoe. She’s the only one, at this point, who could turn on him, but he’d still forgive because he holds her to different expectations.

Anyways, great thoughts, Anon. Keep on posting (and keep us real if you feel we become too crazy in our suppositions)!

June 13, 2012 at 4:11 AM

Hey An, I am happy for the number of posts too, that is Great. All dear POI fans Keep on posting and sharing your interesting thoughts. :)

June 13, 2012 at 12:02 PM

Hey guys,

It’s been fun. I hope Season 2 doesn’t disappoint.

June 13, 2012 at 8:33 PM

Yes, I will be honored to post the 100th reply…I enjoy the posts here also even when I feel everyone is conspiring to pile up posts to antagonize my responses–see POI has encouraged me to be even more paranoid :-)!yay, I am stepping in the right direction. I am at the point that I think there do not have to be a love interest for either of the characters. I know because of the society we live in that we often expect a romance to be forced onto us…but I can enjoy the a show where the writers lead the characters to the edge of reasoning and right when they are about to jump over, pull them all the way back. I think I can like it even better if it takes the characters 2-3 episodes to reach the edge of reasoning, so we can still the frustration, decline in judgement, and the internal fight which lead to the edge…just to be cooled off by Finch’s voice of reasoning and to start the fire all over again the next season but in a more creative and different way. We would be on this site like crazy…is it going to happen, why didn’t it happen, and who can we blame for it not happening…yep, I think I am onto something

June 13, 2012 at 11:37 PM

Post 101…

To expand on pseudo’s post, if The Powers That Be decide not to allow a relationship between Reese and Carter, then it is my sincere hope that all of the four main characters remain “shipless” if you will. That includes Zoe for the entire run of the series. I just don’t see a connection between her and Reese. I may have to hold my nose and watch it if they ever decide to go there. Then again, I may not watch it at all. Sorry, I just can’t stomach those two together.

June 14, 2012 at 12:04 AM

rmooore79, I think you are going to need some anti-gas medicine…:-)! But I see where you are coming from…Zoe and Reese relationship would be so typical, when the oversexed girl do not get with the popular guy…then people are left with “wtf”–I think Carter’s maybe relationship will be more interesting and I will love to see the media cover it and more roles opening up for these two because they would catch the attention of different types of producers and writers because it shows they are ready to offend some deep-seated beliefs or prejudices–but if it doesnt happen, then I have to support Taraji because she is taking a chance by being on this show and I bet she is scared out of mind playing this character…so although I have not followed her work in the past, I’ve come to like and respect her as a person and actress. Taraji for President!!!!

June 14, 2012 at 5:06 PM

LOL pseudo….well I may have to sit it out and not watch if it gets to be too much for me. I know that there are still believers like me, so I am holding out hope until the bitter end.

June 14, 2012 at 11:42 PM

rmoore79, I think there are a lot of believers left. I’ve read all over the interent of people threatening to stop watching if Carter isnt Reese’s love interest, which makes me think Zoe may not be the love interest either. I think Carter and Reese act like they are in a relationship now even with the last couple of episodes. They have an understanding and the reason Reese was treating Carter like that…its because she can take it, the man has a hard job to do everyday and his frustration comes out raw some times and unfortunately Carter has caught it, but so has Finch and especially Fusco. Plus, no one mentioned how Finch talks down to everyone even Reese. He speaks to people like they are dumb and Reese never calls him on it…I’ve hard Carter tell Reese and Finch I know how to do my job and I think I missed it the first I watched epi 12 and I think epi 11 to Finch. I think POI will not disappoint, so hang in there and make some vids.

June 14, 2012 at 5:43 AM

Great comment Pseudo, and sometimes it is not bad to be Paranoid, and I believe season 2 will rock ;)

June 15, 2012 at 12:35 PM

Hey I’m having too much fun.

First of all I have noticed that at the start of POI, Finch says “no matter what happens if your number is up we’ll find you but you will never find us.” I find that interesting because Nathan’s friend found him and Root found him—so am I missing something.

Also, I watched the re-airing of “Blue Code” last night. I noticed that Finch keeps reminding Reese that he doesn’t have a family not even a dog. And that Reese is like him. Finch also once told Reese that they will die and no one will miss them. I think Finch is trying to convince Reese that he found him, gave him a job and basically he’s stuck with him. As they say misery loves company.

Also, if the writers are hinting that Reese will one day have the conventional home and family he so desires, then the only person with a ready-made family is Carter who has a son. Unless Zoe as a child somewhere. Still think that it will be a Zeese hook up. But some food for thought.

June 16, 2012 at 8:56 AM

And Henry Peck E:22 kinda found out about existence of the Machine,

June 15, 2012 at 12:41 PM

When JC did Passion of the Christ, he was snubbed by most of Hollywood. JC even said in an interview they (Hollywood) refused to touch him. I find it interesting that JC is now the star of the Number one rated show on TV. Divine intervention—maybe!!!!!
Thanks for posting the information on POI Mary—I love it! Like in your face Hollywood.

June 15, 2012 at 2:49 PM

You are welcome Taber, and I am extremely Happy for JC, he is one of the BEST Hollywood actors, and great comments, keep up posting :)

June 16, 2012 at 8:51 AM

I was watching E:04 Cura Te Ipsum again, one of my favorite episodes, actually I do like every episode of POI, but there are some which I really love, and I was thinking root will most definitely torture Harold, because Finch would not want her to know anything about the Machine, so after Reese will save Finch with possibly help of Zoe ( I would really like to see Cara helping them too, I really like to see her again), Finch may need some medical attention, and that is where Dr. Megan Tillman comes in, knowing Finch and owing Reese, she would definitely help them, I know Wild assumptions.

June 17, 2012 at 12:37 AM

Of course we want Cara helping Reese, because she is a bad chick that almost killed him before and she is as capable as Reese, so if she is not with him and is against he may get hurt again…and I do not want him to get hurt again.

June 17, 2012 at 6:35 AM

Cara is extremely sorry about what she did to him in Ordos, and Reese is very forgiving, he forgave Fusco and Carter for putting his life in danger, So they will be fine.

June 17, 2012 at 5:13 PM

I wish Cara would tell me that too…about how sorry she is, because we obvious have a communication barrier…which means, tht she knew enough about the machine –you know she killed the the chinese tech guy when he mentioned the machine, but Reese claimed to know nothing about the machine when Finch approached him.

June 16, 2012 at 9:19 AM

I just do not see cara helping reese the timing would not make sense since the last time we saw her she shot snow. I think reese could also ask fusco for help to find out how root contacted HR and now that i think about it fusco and zoe are the two logical ones to assist reese. I just cant wait to see the showdown between reese and root. will reese take down root as he does with the bad guys or will he be hesitant to shoot

June 16, 2012 at 12:24 PM

Well Taber Cara has retired Snow and his friend, and no one knows anything because probably there are no bodies, (she took care of bodies with lye, the method that was mentioned twice in the whole season), and she is on the run too, she is hiding from her own people like Reese used to do, CIA wanted both of them dead, So I believe as Cara said it was not Personal, (or maybe I am saying all of it because I am Cara’s fan), but I do not feel that she will hurt Reese ever again, and I am looking forward to see the moment Reese finds out she is alive too, on the other hand I think Reese will not kill root because he does not shoot women, or maybe he will this time, and finding finch would be hard he will need some help, and Yes maybe he Reese choose Fusco to help him, and Season 2 opener episode will blow us away because, Cannot wait…

June 16, 2012 at 9:42 AM

I also think that Reese could go it alone to find Finch so as not to risk anyone finding out about the machine. Remember Finch warned Reese not to tell anyone about the machine when Reese had told Finch that Carter wanted to know how he gets the information. Hopefully in the opener of season two Reese finds finch because POI is about the next number and that is what makes the show interesting. But Nolan is smart, whatever he comes up with will be mind blowing.

June 16, 2012 at 12:59 PM

And about Fusco, he seems professional in his own way, and he was on the board earlier, he knows more about Finch and Reese than Carter, and I think after hearing about those things that Henry Peck (E:22) said about the Machine, he may kinda knows how they get their information, So maybe Fusco will take root out, but Pseudo is highly suspicious of Fusco…

June 17, 2012 at 12:33 AM

Yes…”highly”–Harper gave me some support too.

June 16, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Letls all save our comments for season 2 i think it wii be more interesting.

June 17, 2012 at 12:43 AM

I know we on this site tend to post like “we” are the ones writing the script, but I am going to say what no one else will admit…EVERYTHING THAT HAS POSTED IS “MERE” SPECULATION, although I am sure I am right about almost everything I post :-), so if you need “truthiness” just read my posts…thanks!

June 17, 2012 at 12:54 AM

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you the added value is that my posts are also the most interesting, which should hold you until Season 2…I got you! :-)

June 16, 2012 at 3:33 PM

Uhm..I don’t know about you, Debbie, but I like seeing speculation about Season 2 on here. So, with that being said, I welcome any and all speculation about Season 2 here and now! This place will be a ghost town without speculation. Yawn…

June 16, 2012 at 3:43 PM

I totally agree with you rmoore79.

June 17, 2012 at 11:27 AM

I watched an interview yesterday with Nolan, Abrams, JC, Henson, and Finch. The cast from POI was seated panel style in front of about 200 people. After a series of question and answers, the host asked or rather made a statement to Finch that one of hsr favorite TV program was “Parenthood”. I thought to myself what in the world does the TV show”Parenthood” have to do with POI? then it hit me that she may have asked Finch the question but she was sending a message to Nolan. You see guys “Parenthood was also one of my favorite shows. In the final episode of “Parenthood the last and final scene ended with the white guy marrying his black girlfriend (and they also had a son together). I strongly believe that the host was sending a message to Nolan wanting to know if POI is going to end with the main star Reese marrying his black costar Carter and if Nolan will have the guts to do it! Just some more food for thought.

June 17, 2012 at 5:07 PM

can I get the link to the interview?

June 18, 2012 at 2:23 AM

Comic-Con 2011 : Person of Interest Panel

June 17, 2012 at 12:01 PM

The host also asked Reese how he prepared for the role of POI. Reese responded that he trained with the navy seals (of course I knew that) but how cool is that to train with America’s finest–totally awesome. You go Reese.

June 17, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Not very good with links. But go to Youtube and type in “Comic-con 2011 – Person of Interest Panel. Interview is a little under 10 mins. It’s the one with Reese in a t-shirt. Reese needs to relax sometimes he can be such a stiff! Maybe because he was sitting next to Taraji–he seemed very uncomfortable. Someone said if you are than nervous sitting next to your female co-star there is some hidden attraction.

I wish I could be there…

June 18, 2012 at 10:13 AM

Wow, after watching that video closely again—Nolan knew exactly what he was doing by casting JC and Henson together. Those two, that is JC and Henson, are such opposites it’s not even funny. JC is very low key and committed to his personal life. Taraji is carefree, single and a little rough around edges. I do admire the fact that onscreen you wouldn’t be able to tell—which shows that these guys are amazing actors.
However, if it doesn’t appear that you at least like your co-star off-screen it will not be believable on-screen if there are intimate moments. It will be interesting to see how far Nolan will push JC and Henson, knowing JC’s convictions.

June 18, 2012 at 11:29 AM

Excellent observation Taber. They are really amazing actors, and Nolan knows how to surprise us.

June 18, 2012 at 2:08 PM

You could also look at the clip from another perspective
Taraji felt comfortable invading JC’s space and touching
him affectionally with both hands which means they have
a trusting professional working relationship. Another great fan of thr
Of the show told me that JC was a bit ticked at Taraji for teasing him. Also there is a TV
Guide photo of Henson Reese and Finch and Reese was smiling with his hand on
Taraji’s upper arm. Now was he told to place it there
Or did he do it freely. The photo was taken the same
same day of the panel interviews because they were wearing the same clothes
Onn

June 18, 2012 at 2:59 PM

To talk about actors of the show off-screen particularly JC and Taraji, Yes they are very different, not to mention Taraji’s latest Photo Shoots for Allure Magazine in April, but what matters is definitely on-screen chemistry of actors, which I do not see that between Reese and Carter too.

June 18, 2012 at 2:23 PM

I noticed that in many happyreturns that the business
card that Finch gave Reese with the address of his new flat
Said Harold Wren, which is the name Fusco told REESE
that Finch used at MIT. How did Reese miss that at the
End of Wulf and Cub? Or maybe in season two it will make sense to him.
Still don’t understand how Reese missed that with his background.

June 18, 2012 at 2:39 PM

I have to comment. I noticed the same thing that Finch’s card with the address on the back for Reese’s new apartment said Harold Wren and not Harold Finch. Reese should have definitely caught that in Wolf and Cub.

June 18, 2012 at 3:49 PM

“Another great fan of thr
Of the show told me that JC was a bit ticked at Taraji for teasing him.”

Taber, can you tell me who gave you that information? I don’t believe that is true, and until I have proof, it is just a rumor. Not for a minute do I believe that JC is uncomfortable with TPH. Sounds like something a Carter hater made up.

June 19, 2012 at 11:38 AM

Just a friends opinion cant say i agree the JC i have
read about and career i have folowed is very professional
And would not say or imply something unkind sbout a costat
these are all observations.

June 21, 2012 at 8:23 AM

I watched the movie “Dejavu” last night starring Denzel Washington and JC. And I wondered if they got the idea for POI from “Dejavu” – It’s just too much of a coincidence. In “Dejavu” Denzel is the lead investigator on a terrible terrorist attack. Denzel is invited by the FBI to look at a machine that can go back in the past to try to figure out who committed the crime. Denzel made a very interesting statement. He said that he is tired of going after the bad guys after the crime is committed and if the machine is capable of being able to stop the crime before it happens. And of course, JC plays the evil guy. Denzel is able to enter the machine and change the outcome of the crime by killing JC. In “Dejavu” JC was also very handy with a gun. Just too much of a coincidence that JC is now the star of POI and it involves a machine. Just some food for thought.

June 21, 2012 at 11:02 AM

Very Interesting Taber, Exactly, I was kinda shocked too, but that machine in Dejavu was more developed, and I wonder how nobody on the show never mentioned about it, in an interview for CBS, I think dated May 2011, JC was asked about the whole idea of the show and he said something like POI is a show like 24 and Fugitive, he did not name Equalizer and Dejavu, maybe on purpose, and VERY INTERESTING NEWS:
Cities using AI for pre-crime monitoring of surveillance videos
By Kathleen Hickey
Jun 19, 2012
In a real-life twist of the TV show “Person of Interest,” cities around the country are adopting technology to detect and prevent crime before it happens.

In the TV show, a mysterious billionaire and computer genius recruits a former CIA agent to prevent violent crimes in New York using a computer system he built to analyze video surveillance.

In reality, San Francisco; Houston; El Paso, Texas; Birmingham, Ala.; and reportedly the site of the World Trade Center in New York — among other entities — have purchased that kind of software to detect and report “suspicious or abnormal behavior.” The European Union and the Homeland Security Department are also developing their own pre-crime detection systems.

June 21, 2012 at 9:26 PM

Thanks for the information Mary. Wow, the ideas surrounding POI is getting more and more interesting. I just finished watching the movie FinalCut with Robin Williams and JC. While I didn’t care too much for this movie, it was another movie based on a machine/computer where implanted microchips record every single moment of a person’s life. What was surprising to me is the the name of the implant was called the “Zoe” implant. And during a conversation the name Finch was mentioned. I thought to myself is the TV series POI based on JC’s past movies. Of course JC played the bad guy again. And didn’t like it that JC killed Alan. Anyway all these similarities to POI is pretty creepy.

Interestingly I read that in Season 2 another character that will emerge often is the MACHINE. Apparently is has a mind of its own.

I’m now watching the rerun of Risk. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone that wears a suit and looks great doing so like Reese.

June 22, 2012 at 2:41 AM

Great Taber, I cannot agree more, and YES POI is kinda based on JC’s past movies, I believe Nolan himself is one of JC’s biggest fan, I read an interview that Nolan was very impressed by his acting in The Thin Red Line, and to get back to many indications in POI, Playing Golf in E:16
(Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius), Casting Dagmara Dominczyk and that book of
The Count of Monte Cristo with a vaguely Caviezelly looking cover in E:07,
even that photo of real John in his file was very much like Ron Chapman from
High Crimes, and in movie Unknown he was a corrupted cop and Kevin Chapman was a good cop, IMHO, they are clear indications, about the name Finch I read that it was Nolan’s wife suggestion, they were on vacation something like that, Nolan was working on POI plot and he asked her about naming the character and it was her idea, but yet again I believe he already intended to use Zoe and Finch names. I admire Nolan, he is brilliant. And JC
will be seen in an upcoming action thriller film The Tomb as a bad guy, JC is Awesome.

June 22, 2012 at 2:50 AM

And Taber, I presume we become highly OBSERVANT…:)

keep posting dear POI fans…

June 22, 2012 at 2:24 PM

JC definitely plays the bad guy really great. He was totally awesome in High Crimes. I did not suspect him at all as the killer. I olny hope that in POI we are not surprised that he’s actually a monster. But i dont think so. Nolan really likes JC and wanted him to do POI. I saw a photo of JC dressed as superman, I was totally blown as to how gorgeous he was , I’m sgtill disappointed that he wasn,t selected to play superman.
Great observations on POI and JC movies a lot of similarities. I think Nolan is all about being mysterious that is why I cant wait for season 2. I’m yyping on my cell phone not the best way but gets the job done.

June 22, 2012 at 11:05 PM

WOW taber, you are right, now I have to say I believe POI is a kinda tribute to JC, but really POI is one of the best shows ever, and I would love to see JC win an Oscar, he is an accomplished actor, Nolan is awesome too, and JC is the BEST, and finally Reese is beyond Batman and superman, he is doing all those stuff in real life. I love this show…

June 22, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Nolan is very clever. I just watched the movie Pay It Forward with Helen Hunt, kevin Spacey and J.C. In “Pay it Forward” JC plays a homeless man and in POI JC was homeless. Also in the movie High Crimes JC played and ex military man and in POI JC is also ex military. Not sure why Nolan is doing this. I think POI is more than just another TV series for Nolan. He has left us with many clues from Season 1; Lets see how close i come to solving the puzzle.

Also, now I know why Mel Gibson chose JC to do the Passion of the Christ. In Pay it Forward, JC talks a woman out of taking her life. JC’s face with the short beard, and long hair and those eyes made him look like the Christ photos. All I could say was WOW!. JC is an excellent actor one of the best to grace Hollywood screens. It’s sad that he has never been nominated for an Oscar. But it’s never too late if he continues to make movies.

June 22, 2012 at 11:08 PM

And AWESOME points Taber…

June 30, 2012 at 9:50 PM

If Carter had been on the periphery in the episode Many Happy Returns then I would have some concerns about the character’s role in season 2. But in that episode and in Firewall Carter clearly crossed the line to protect Reese. Moreover Finch knew that she would cross the line when he said she should go to New Rochelle. As Finch noted, Reese’s association with Carter has had an influence on her. Also, it was striking in Many Happy Returns that Finch enlisted Carter to get her to stop Reese when Reese was no longer listening to him. That said a whole heck of a lot about what Finch believed as far as Reese’s and Carter’s relationship. Since none of the relationships on POI can be described as conventional, I wouldn’t expect Carter’s and Reese’s interactions to be easily classified. What does Reese do to let Carter know that he cares about her? He tells her to wear a bullet-proof vest and gives her a gun as big as she is to protect herself. lol! But surprisingly Finch has made attempts to advise Reese about “normal” interactions with Carter – such as telling Reese an apology might help with Carter when she wasn’t taking their calls, saying that Carter didn’t have a problem with Reese himself but with Reese’s methods, and suggesting to Reese that Fusco & Carter shouldn’t be kept in the dark about each other. Season 1 showed the losses that both Reese and Finch experienced before they began working together. Even Fusco has been put in jeopardy a few times because of his association with Finch and Reese. The latter part of season 1 has set up the possibility of Carter paying a price for the choices she made by aligning herself with Reese and Finch. I mean really, it was not a smart move on her part to keep a picture of Reese and Jessica. Also, the HR cop who is still on the loose knows that Finch helped to get Carter’s son from Elias. So outside of a maybe/maybe not romance there’s a lot that can happen with Carter in season 2. I don’t think I will be disappointed regarding Carter’s story.

June 30, 2012 at 10:02 PM

Forgot to add one more thing. Stanton trapped Snow and probably got information about Reese. Who’s name do you think Snow gave up? He would give up Carter’s name for sure.

July 3, 2012 at 8:26 AM

That is possible KLJ.
