Duets – The one where we get to finally vote

I have been waiting with breath that is bated for the viewers to finally have their say on ABC's 'Duets.' Instead of just hearing from the "superstar" judges all the time. They should have done this from the outset. So? Who got your vote?

- Season 1, Episode 6 - "Songs from the 2000's"

I’m dying to hear who you voted for on Duets this week, as we at long last got the chance to voice our opinions. At least I feel like I’m dying. That’s probably because the temperature in my little writing nook is four million degrees. The Midwest is experiencing a nice little heat wave. So before my brain fries like an egg in my skull? Let me tell you what I thought of tonight’s show …

Jennifer Nettles and John Glosson: The host of this show with the ridiculous name told us at the start that Jennifer is pregnant, opening up the comedy door for good ole Robin Thicke to point out that her team is technically singing “trios” now. Ba da bum! Then Jennifer promised us she’d “kill us with romance.”

That didn’t work for me in this duet.

I’m sorry. I just can’t take this guy seriously as a swoony crooner. When the host with the ridiculous name said at the end “I so wanted you two to kiss!” I think I threw up in my mouth a little. (But that may have been the salsa from dinner.)

There’s just such Intense Acting. And Eye. Contact. Someone save me. I can’t take it. These two do the same sloooow love song every week. Or I think they do. It’s like a continuous loop.

I’m over it. John Legend agreed with me. (He’s the only judge besides Kelly on occasion that tells the truth.)

Robin Thicke and Olivia Chisholm: These two took on a song I really like by Lady Antebellum, “Need You Now.” Risky choice. And I thought a bad one for Olivia. She just doesn’t have the chops. The people in the cheap seats can’t hear her, if you know what I mean. She’s very soft. Even she knows this about herself and she said she was going to disprove that tonight.

She didn’t. She’s gone come the next show, I think. Her pitch was everywhere. It was just nasty. And don’t get me started again on Robin and his gold mic and cheesy sunglasses and sexist comments. We don’t want to travel that road.

On a positive note? I wish I had Olivia’s legs. They’re fabulous. Of course, you can’t help but notice them when every outfit she wears is cut up to her neckline. I think this is meant to distract us from her singing. Nice try.

Kelly Clarkson and Jason Farol: Ho boy. Jason is in trouble as well. He just isn’t able to hold his own with Kelly. Then again, she’s such an amazingly powerful singer that who could? Even when she tries to back her voice off? She still shines on through. He ain’t long for the Duets world either.

And I liked Kelly better as a brunette. But that’s just me.

John Legend and Bridget Carrington: This is my pony. I know that all the judges drool over J Rome, but this girl has it all. She’s confident. She can vocally keep up with John. She’s attractive, her voice is strong, she can move. What’s not to like here?

Bridget mentioned that she flew home last week and had to go back to her day job for awhile and it made her cry. I completely understood that. I’m rather the creative type too, and it’s awful to have to work a job not even remotely associated with what you love. Sigh.

But she won’t have to worry about that much longer. Girl’s going places.

Jennifer Nettles and J Rome: Uh huh. He’s good. I like Bridget better, and I think we’re being pushed by the judges on J Rome taking this whole thing. (I hate it when judges “decide” things for me.)

And appropo of nothing? Jennifer needs to get a new stylist. Those parachute pants she was wearing? Yuck. Made her look like she shoved four socks down her crotch. What the hell?

Enough of me. What did you think?

I watch this show purely for the interaction and weirdness of the “superstars” and the dorky host – I could care less about any of the contestants to be honest. Every time I watch, I dream of Kristen Wiig going back to host SNL so they can do a Duets skit with her as Jennifer Nettles. There’s just so much wacky stuff going on, it NEEDS to happen.

I think it’s crazy that you don’t like John Glosson….THE BEST talent on the show! It’s a singing competition and by far they are the best “duet”
