How should Sex and the City have ended? – SATC Week

As 'Sex and the City' week comes to a close here at CliqueClack, we ask one final question: how should 'Sex and the City' have ended? Should Carrie have walked off with Big, Aidan, or ... HERSELF?

As this is the end of Sex and the City week, I have to thank everyone who made it such a success.

Since this is the end of Sex and the City week, I always wondered how the show SHOULD have ended. Although Deb makes a good case for Big, I always thought, like Kim, that Carrie should have ended up with Aidan. But, even more than that, I thought the series should’ve ended with Carrie alone with her friends. At the end of the day, the Carries of the world — in which I include myself  — the women with intangible standards who turn their backs on the tangible romantic ideal and haven’t decided what they want — are either going to decide to wait a little longer or decide to remain with themselves. I started to feel that Carrie was more in love with love and the art of the chase. Although the little girl in me loved the Big ending, I always felt the more awesome statement would’ve included Carrie walking off into the sunset by herself. So, I sent out a call to my Sex and the City peeps to see who they felt Carrie should’ve ended with: herself, Big, Aidan or someone else entirely.

An: Who do you think Carrie should’ve wound up with in the finale?

Rachel: As far as who Carrie is “meant to be with,” I should say Aidan, because he’s obviously the best guy out of the bunch. However, I do believe that she is meant to be with Big. Aidan didn’t challenge her enough. I don’t have the time to start to psychoanalyze her, but I feel that some part of Carrie — even if it’s subconscious — needs to be in a relationship in which she loves more than she is loved. With Aidan, it was the opposite and she was unsatisfied. As she said, it was “too easy” with Aidan. Mr. Big was never really emotionally or physically available to her, yet their chemistry is unmatched and their personalities click. In some ways, they are complete opposites — she is neurotic and he is easygoing; she is a serial monogamist and he does not like to be confined by relationships. But the dynamic works for the two of them.

Do I think he’s a complete asshole? Yes. Do I also find him completely hot? Yes.

Kim: If Carrie hadn’t previously met Big, I think she could’ve had a real shot for happiness with Aidan. But I think Big was her soulmate and sometimes there’s just no fighting that, no matter how hard you try.

So, how do YOU think the finale should have ended? Below find one of the alternate endings to help you decide!

I think she should have gone on a date with Patrick Bateman (also famous for sex in the same city), and never been heard from again.
