The people planning it still think the film rights are in the public domain, but Paramount actually controls the rights now and isn’t likely to let someone else make a film based on their property. Of course, that won’t stop Paramount from considering the idea for their own use. Hopefully, the backlash has already been enough to kill any proposed sequel. I mean, if they do this, what’s next? A sequel to Citizen Kane?
