Comments on: Were minorities snubbed at the Emmys? https://cliqueclack.com/p/minorities-snubbed-emmys/ Big voices. Little censors. The Golden Globes are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press, although who makes up this group is questionable. Also, no massive auditoriums or production numbers but more of a get together at tables with alcohol. So, fun. And last year, Idris Elba took a Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV award for Luther. Not an Emmy but still recognition for an exceptional acting job.

However, there are still a lot of people that are consistently snubbed. Earlier this year I spoke to Dule Hill, who plays Gus on USA’s “Psych”, and he said that it does hurt just a tad when his show gets overlooked during awards season. I have to agree with you about it all being a popularity contest. I don’t get that sense with the Golden Globes though. I always felt as though that was a fair contest.

I’ve never heard that the Emmys were referred to as the “white awards.” I don’t know if that’s exactly true, but I do wish that the winners would have been a bit more diverse. I guess that’s why they have the NAACP Image Awards. Still, I think there are a ton of actors and actresses out there that are not being recognized. And yes, the same group of folks are nominated again and again. A lot of talented individuals have been snubbed. That isn’t fair.

More people of color should be nominated as well as being announced as winners. It appears that the same group of people are nominated and win over and over again. It is time for the executives of the emmys to take a look at how things are being done and maybe if we make enough noise they will pay attention! The emmys have been known as being the WHITE awards show and this saying has proven to be true. Great article as always and I look forward to next weeks’ clacking in color.

Idris Elba should have gotten the Emmy for The Wire, which I feel was his stronger work. Still, his work on Luther just adds to his legacy and someday the awards will come his way just as they did for Denzel. Denzel who has become one of those rare actors that can go by one name and everybody knows who yer talking about. Everyone has a favorite Denzel movie or 4. And where as he didn’t win Oscar for the movies he should have, in the end, he did win. Talent will out, but, popularity wins awards.

It didn’t read like a rant, Jay. It was just a grown up response for a relevant topic and thats how a column usually goes…sharing your opinion on a relevant issue that is geared toward the central idea of the column. Your column is centrally focused on minorities in TV and this was very relevanat and needed a say-so and you pulled it off wonderfully. I agreed with your stance. While I do not look at TV much and I was not a viewer for the award show, I agree that more people of color should be atleast nominated. Good topic, bro. I look forward to the next.
