There was a mixed bag of TV releases on DVD and Blu-ray this week with past seasons of shows soon to return — 2 Broke Girls, Two and a Half Men — and shows that recently ended and are either returning next year — Penny Dreadful, Fargo — or have ended their runs — Dracula, The Honorable Woman. Reality TV is featured heavily this week with either season sets or special episodes, including Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Alaska State Troopers, Jackass and Pawn Stars, and shows the entire family can enjoy — Mr. Peabody and Sherman (the classic cartoons to tie in with the movie release), Marvel Knights, Star Wars Rebels and Yo Gabba Gabba. It’s a big week for TV on home video as the new fall season starts to roll out. This week, you have the opportunity to catch up on several of last season’s shows before the new season starts, including Arrow, About a Boy, Awkward, The Big Bang Theory, Bones, Castle, Grimm, Hannibal, Hawaii Five-O, Sleepy Hollow and South Park. For those whose cable systems don’t yet carry Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey channel, the first season of From Dusk Till Dawn makes its home video debut, while streaming series Alpha House and Burning Love also get home video releases. Classic TV fans can now get The Carol Burnett Show Ultimate Edition from retailers other than Time Life, and Highway to Heaven and Tour of Duty also get new season releases. Plenty of big TV titles hit home video this week, and with the second season of Lifetime’s Witches of East End about to commence, now’s your chance to catch up on the first season of the magical sudser. If you’re looking for more adult fare, Showtime’s Masters of Sex gets a first season release before its July 13 season two premiere. FX’s drama The Bridge is also now available before season two premieres July 9. Syfy’s Lost Girl season five is set to premiere in the fall, so you’ll have time to watch all of season four before then. Reality TV is represented with Cake Boss and Filthy Riches, animation for all ages ranges from Dragonball Z to The Boondocks, and classic TV fans can enjoy new releases for Mama’s Family, NYPD Blue, My Favorite Martian and Star Trek: The Next Generation. This week’s home video releases include a collection of TV and online series, TV movies, kids and animated fare, and some classic TV as well. The big release of the week is the second season of Netflix’s House of Cards. If you’re not a Netflix subscriber and haven’t had the chance to binge watch this mesmerizing political thriller, then you won’t want to miss this home video release. The second half of MTV’s supernatural hit Teen Wolf comes to home video this week, along with Comedy Central’s Tosh.0, and some Brit TV including Death in Paradise and DCI Banks. Hallmark has another Good Witch TV movie and PBS has the mini-series The Escape Artist, starring former Doctor Who David Tennant, on DVD. With the regular TV season over and the summer TV season about to begin, now is the time to catch up on some of your favorite series before they come back to the airwaves. This week saw the release of previous seasons of Falling Skies, True Blood, The Killing, Workaholics, The Glades, Pretty Little Liars and Awkward, as well as a complete series set for Breaking Bad. The USA Network is preparing to gear up for its new summer schedule, and to help prepare you for the new seasons of Covert Affairs (season five premieres June 24) and Suits (season four premieres June 11), you can get caught up on the past seasons this week. Fans of British mystery and drama can watch the recently aired seasons of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Wallander, and Doctor Who fans can go on An Adventure in Space and Time. Fans of FX’s The Bridge can check out the original Danish series to compare, and we now have proof that Danny Trejo will appear in anything with the release of Ghostquake, another in a long line of Syfy original movies. Classic TV buff will be happy to finally have the complete The Bob Newhart Show on DVD, and Dan Curtis’ Dracula gets a spiffy new Blu-ray release. Two genre favorites, Warehouse 13 and Nikita, aired their final seasons and now those series finales can be yours on home video this week. Also making the journey from broadcast to home video are the Brit favourites Call the Midwife, Dalziel & Pascoe, and Waking the Dead. Reality TV buffs can get caught up on the second season of Mountain Men and the first season of Amish Mafia. Classic TV is well represented with a new edition of classic Doctor Who, “The Enemy of the World,” and TV drama L.A. Law gets a second season release. And Happy Days fans can now own the infamous episode that spawned the phrase “Jumped the Shark” with the fifth season DVD. Sitcom reissues include The Jeffersons, The Facts of Life, Good Times and The Dick Van Dyke Show. Cartoon superheroes are also on hand with JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time and Batman: The Brave & The Bold. And you may have missed these when they were released a couple of weeks ago, but check out TV classics I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show and The Honeymooners now on Blu-ray for the first time!

Another slow week for new TV shows on DVD with only the latest season of PBS’ Mr. Selfridge the only new series coming to home video. The TV movie Asteroid vs Earth aims for the Sharknado crowd, but classic TV fans can enjoy the complete series collection of Hill Street Blues, and the eighth season of Dynasty, while the fourth and final season of Star Trek Enterprise finally comes to Blu-ray.
