I’m in the middle of watching Gaksital, in which the Japanese again are brutal villains. It’s unsettling and eye-opening to view these kinds of stories, because otherwise I would have only my half-baked, romanticized notions of Japan as the land of ninja and samurai (and ramen and Hello Kitty). The more foreign perspectives you expose yourself to, the more you realize that every nation has both good and bad in its history.
