WWE superstars and Sci-Fi hereos come to home video
TV on DVD and Blu-ray April 16 includes ‘Flash Gordon,’ ‘UFC Ultimate Fighter,’ HBO’s ‘Ethel,’ ‘Counting Cars,’ ‘Last of the Summer Wine,’ ‘Iron Man: Rise of Technovore,’ and a tribute to Mick Foley.
There is not a single new TV show coming to home video this week, but if you remember the Sci-Fi Channel’s take on Flash Gordon (before it was rebranded Syfy) and always wondered why it wasn’t available on DVD … your wishes have been granted! In addition to Flash, the WWE and UFC have some new DVDs on tap, and HBO’s documentary about Ethel Kennedy also comes to home video. Full series collections of Friends and Gilmore Girls also get repriced re-releases. Hi Chuck. Saw Oblivion. It’s a sci-fi movie starring Tom Cruise as Jack Harper, a drone repairman on war ravaged
Earth 2077. The movie takes a pinch of other sci-fi ideas, including the Jetsons and mind wipes Jack to create
a predictable but with a twist ending. Several things stood out. (1)Why in Washington, D.C., where the Washington
Monument, the tallest building, is left standing intact and (2)his home/space station. In the middle of a wasteland, is a transparent swimming pool. I suppose it’s eye candy Tom for the ladies. The men are not left out as his
co-star Andrea Riseborough as Victoria looks great in her high heels(really). Later Olga Kurylenko, his haunting
dream woman from his past completes a love triangle. Morgan Freeman(Afro Americans always wear shades) is
there to save whats left of Earth. The movie is sometimes hard to follow as it goes up like a hot air balloon but once
the air is out, it falls to Earth with a dud.
Thanks, I saw it too and enjoyed it. We do have a review posted from Ivey West.
