The animated effects are, truly, wonderful in the how in the hell did they do THAT? sense… but ultimately, a movie must rely on a good story. And WIR doesn’t have a plot as wonderful as the CGI it uses so well.
Yeah, I recognized the Ed Wynn character. He played the Mad Hatter in an old Disney film, “Alice in Wonderland” (1951). It’s great that today’s Disney studio folks appreciate some of the old classics. But for a really outstanding Disney picture, we should be going back to the kind of magic provided in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937), the enthralling “Cinderella” (1950), and especially the nonpareil “Pinocchio” (1940). I defy anyone with a heart to watch any of the last three named movies with totally dry eyes. Can’t be done.

But yeah, I was shocked when I saw Tudyk’s name in the credits.

My boyfriend and I were actually howling with laughter at the Sgt’s backstory. I don’t think it was supposed to be THAT funny, but we thought it was hilarious. And call me sentimental, but I was tearing up a little during the epilogue. The brother/sister-like relationship they had was very sweet.
