CliqueClack Presidential Nominations: I wish Laura Roslin were running for president

Sci Fi Network

Sci Fi

The days pass and we get closer and closer to that very important day – November 4, election day.  As we are bombarded with news, campaign ads and debates, I get more and more jaded.

Here at CliqueClack, we’ve decided to endorse a candidate. Don’t get nervous, we won’t be picking an actual politician. Instead, we’re going to be presenting some of the characters from TV that we think would make the best commander-in-chief and you’ll have a chance to vote on your favorite.

I’ve mentioned that I’m currently watching all of Battlestar Galactica on DVD. The more episodes that I watch, the more I realize one thing: I wish Laura Roslin were running for president.

She may have started as the education secretary, but this lady has everything it takes to be commander-in-chief: leadership, compassion, and smarts.  She may be a bit of a religious radical, but she doesn’t let it get in her way.  Let’s take a closer look….

Pros:

  • Leadership: She’s got a strong sense of how to be a leader, taking over the presidency in a time of crisis. She showed that she was able to make tough decisions (like fleeing from the Cylon fleet when the leaders in the military wanted to stay and fight), and deliver eloquent, uplifting speeches to the masses.
  • Accountability: While she doesn’t own up to many mistakes in public, putting up that uncrackable public persona, she is able to admit to her errors in private.  When she ordered the destruction of a human freighter because it was suspected to have been compromised by Cylons, she admitted to Apollo that it was a mistake.
  • Not afraid to do what’s right: Even though she had been pro-choice her entire political career, Roslin knew that she had to outlaw abortion when the human race was whittled down to about 50,000 members.  She was also willing to negotiate with the labor unions that popped up later in the series.
  • Fiercely protective: You have to love a president who isn’t afraid to send a few Cylons out the airlock. Roslin doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to protecting the fragile human race.
  • The deadly combination: Nice gams and lots of skirt suits.  Yowza.
Cons:
  • Religion: I’m a big proponent of the separation of church and state, so I would be a little wary about her dedication to religion.  I mean, this is the woman who started having drug-induced hallucinations and claimed that she was a vessel for the gods and their prophecies.
  • Health: She does have that pesky cancer that seems to be popping up.  We’ve already seen her on her death bed, only to be saved at the last minute.
  • Experience: Let’s face it … her political experience begins and ends with being the secretary of education.
Possible running mates: We’ve seen her with a couple different vice presidents, and frankly, none of them really look like viable candidates.  First it was Gaius Baltar, who is a known traitor and enemy collaborator. Then it was Tom Zarek, a former terrorist and political extremist.  I would recommend William Adama: he would bring a strong military background to the ticket, and we know that they have a very …. um … close relationship.
Be sure to check back for more of our nominations and remember to vote for your favorite when the time comes – it’s your civic duty!

What is surprising to me is your unprovoked rudeness.

No, it’s just shocking that Akbar can be funny intersting.

Don’t worry about me bsgfan. The ignorance of oreo and ricky seems to be never ending. No skin off of my back.

Agreed. These two are mainly interested in putting others down to feebly try and make themselves look better. It’s sad, really, that all they’ve got to bolster their self-esteem is a disdain for others.

BTW Akbar, love the site!

Who the hell is Ricky, and more over who cares?

Akbar has a site? So, guess where my next click takes me to…
