MTV’s longest-running show — The Real World – launched its 21st season Wednesday night. The latest chapter takes us to the hip-happenin’ Big-Apple borough of Brooklyn. To mix things up, I guess, the producers elected to go with eight strangers instead of seven. This was probably due to the increased number of “Real Worlders” who have been booted-off or have voluntarily removed themselves from the series in recent seasons.
For some inexplicable reason, I have watched this damn show since its inception. Yes, I go all the way back to 1992 when Eric Nies spent his days cutting-a-rug and admiring himself in the nearest mirror. I’ve viewed all or portions of each season since. Seeing whiny, immature young adults desperate for attention get shitfaced on a nightly basis and engage in petty arguments has always floated my boat. Clearly, I have issues.
My question to all you out there in TV land is this: “Am I am the only person still watching?” If not, I’ll be more than happy to cover all the staged drama and alcohol-induced madness every week. I’ll leave it up to the readers. Think of it as going back to Roman times. Play the part of Emperor Nero and give me a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down.
If no one votes, I’ll have my answer.
I quit watching after Puck and Pedro. I just couldn’t take it anymore and I never watched another eppy after that.
I think the MTV network should be ignored like it doesn’t exist.
i would still watch this show but Basic Cable sux. but i think the challenges are 20X better then the real world but they have to make more to have new people to be kicked off after the first challenge. so i’d love for you to review it so i can see what i miss.
This show is still somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me along with the challenges. It obviously isn’t what it used to be, as neither is MTV, but they at least seem to be trying to get back to what the show was originally supposed to be about for the past two seasons. The cast this season in particular actually seem semi-intelligent and driven, and it doesn’t seem like its all going to be about drunken hook ups (for better or worse). I say review it, at least for the few of us who still shamefully watch for some inexplicable reason, like myself.
I stopped for a very long time, but came back in with San Diego and haven’t missed an episode since.
And so far (one ep), I very much like this season. So yes, despite the vote literally coming down to 50-50 (as of me writing this) I would love to see you continue to write about TRW.
