Prison Break – The Scofield family reunion, part 2

Kathleen QuinlanSo from what I can tell so far, Christina Scofield is every bit as cunning and clever as her son Michael. In fact, you could say she’s his “Mirror Universe” version, only minus the goatee. I always figured that if Michael went bad, he would be diabolically evil, and then we get Kathleen Quinlan in pure evil genius mode in the role of his mother.

After the disastrous family reunion Christina had with Lincoln a couple of weeks back where she ultimately tried to have him killed, it’s Michael’s turn. Only he turned the wheels on her a bit and gave himself the upper hand. Unless she planned it that way. When you’re dealing with two tactical geniuses, it’s hard to say who’s got everything going exactly the way they planned. It is nice to see Michael facing off against a worthy adversary. She certainly knew what bombs to drop to get him off his game.

The revelation, if it’s true, that Lincoln is an adopted brother and not a biological one makes perfect sense. First of all, they have different last names. Second of all, as Christina told Michael they have virtually nothing in common from their physical appearance to their demeanor to their intellectual capacity. In fact, I think the only thing they share is the love of an easy to manage hair style.

I was pleased to see Christina in a position of weakness, captured unawares by her son, tied up and even dragged across the hotel room. She’s been far too cocky and self-assured for far too long.

Unfortunately, Sara and Michael were foolish enough to leave her alone in the bathroom. Don’t they remember what Michael is capable of when he’s locked up somewhere? Plus, I don’t think Sara has ever been effective at holding someone hostage when she’s been left alone; she generally winds up as the hostage, just like here.

Just when I was getting a bit cold on the return of Prison Break, all it took was this one character to hook me all over again. She’s brilliant and twisted and it’s all the more perfect that she’s Michael’s mother, and Lincoln’s to a degree, I guess. While this show may be nothing like it was when it started, it’s no less fascinating. What does Christina want? Can Michael take down The Company? Should he really want to? Only two more episodes to find out!
