Sure, I did a little bit of whining in last week’s post about Grey’s Anatomy‘s “ripped from the ER-scriptroom” approach with this whole merger business, with reason; it’s not the first time Grey’s has seemingly borrowed from the medical show gold standard. We even already had a preexisting tag called “grey’s anatomy rip-off er” before I could create a new one. That being said, I’m actually interested to see how the whole thing plays out.
Everyone is feeling the effects of the upcoming merger. And by “feeling the effects” I mean scared out of their minds that they’re going to get laid off. Cristina has found her own brand of crazy, Lexi is rushing through the hallways, and the Chief is locked in his office giving away nothing. Most of the senior staff is calm, though, with world renowned McDreamy and McSteamy. And Hunt, because really … war vet worried about a lay off? Not so much.
The best bit of advice about the whole thing came from Sloan to his lady friend Lexi. Stop worrying about being good enough, and just be good enough. They’ve never portrayed Lexi as a particularly talented doc (though no moron either, save for some bad practice strategies), but she pulled several good moves tonight.
Where we go from here will be interesting. Are they going to bring in new characters? There hasn’t been a lot in major casting announcements, but someone has got to come from Mercy West, right (besides the one obvious candidate)?
Other stuff:
Don’t forget to mention that when Mark found Lexie crying after the layoffs, and thought she’d been let go, he was perfectly willing to go risk his OWN job by intervening with the Chief for her. That is so amazing, and would NOT have been Mark in years past. Although the Mark/Lexie relationship is not my favorite, I do love Mark’s attitude through this whole episode.
