FlashForward – Lots of pieces, but nothing is fitting together

FlashForward

FlashForward is beginning to feel like one of those impossible jigsaw puzzles where the picture is printed on both sides and all the pieces fit with each other. You know the ones that you open once, spend fifteen minutes fiddling with, and then chuck across the room? My point (and I do have one) is that there are a whole lot of pieces out on “the table” right now, and I’m not sure how any of them are going to come together to create a meaningful image.

In all honesty, it’s getting a little frustrating. I love the slow burn on Lost, but even when “nothing” was happening, we were getting interesting back stories on the characters. This episode of FlashForward seemed like a whole lot of running in place. For serialized shows like this, there is such a delicate balance that needs to exist between weekly action and moving the larger story forward. I feel like FlashForward just hasn’t found that perfect balance yet.

I have the feeling — and I hope I’m correct — that all these pieces will come together. The show has the chance to be really impressive if Nicole’s drowning, Aaron’s trip to Afghanistan, Lloyd and Simon’s experiment, and all the things that the FBI agents have been looking into weave together to form the endgame. Does Jericho have something to do with the conspiracy behind the blackout? Do Lloyd and Simon really have anything to do with the flashforward? What about Nicole’s flash?

I would really like to see some things start to fall into place. I’m not looking for big answers, but a little something would be nice at this point. If the episodes aren’t going to have the emotional impact that last week’s episode did, featuring the suicide of Al, then there needs to be something more than a strange dude getting a box of strange rings.

How are you feeling about FlashForward? Are you okay with the pacing as is? Am I expecting too much?

No no no your just being too picky, listen Lost lost me long ago, due to this running in place thing and running in circles and getting absolutly no where! But with this show we know where we’re going it’s exciting because we have a time limit on the challanging puzzle. I love Flash Forward I think it’s great, I’m a fan for sure and I can’t wait for April 29 to see it all come together.

I was taking this show in stride, expecting not much from it but willing to give it a handful of episodes to prove itself to me, up until the most recent epi. Before this epi, there were basic interpretations: either the flashes were 100% accurate because fate is decided (the female sheriff who saw nothing and then died) or they would become true because everyone saw the future and would adjust life to accommodate the flashes (like with Dr. Varley not shooting himself b/c he’s “supposed” to meet the woman in his flash, or everything Benford has put on the board simply because he saw it on the board).

But when Al jumped off that building, he proved that the flash forwards are not obligatory; this changes everything. Now there’s choice again, free will, which may have been there all the time, though it seems the writer’s were steering us away from that for several episodes. Now nothing means anything. The flash forwards are hollow and filled with nothing. I’m not sure if this will save or destroy the show.

…but I’ll probably keep watching because most everything else on doesn’t interest me. *shrug*

This show is like Lost to me too… I consider myself a semi-intelligent person but with shows like Flash Forward and Lost I have the worst time putting clues with answers. Don’t get me wrong, I have watched Lost from the beginning and never missed and episode as I have not missed an episode of Flash Forward but it is hard to understand where any of the storylines are headed. (I also have to say that although I love Joseph Fiennes, he is way too intense here).

Also, I was not sure I liked Lloyd at first but I love the interaction between him and Simon. Of course anything that DM is in is ok by me.

Keep watching, if only for an explanation on what caused the flashforward, and why the people with those rings on were able to remain conscious.

the hole in the story is that people who flashed forward finding themselves on the toilet are definitely not going to be there when the time finally comes around … especially since everyone knows the date and time that they saw in the future.
