“You had a girlfriend before mom?” – Luke
“Try two. Trust me, I had plenty of fun in my time. Then I met your mom.” – Phil
Is it possible that Modern Family is getting funnier? Every week it blows my mind at how well-written this show is. Take the whole turtle killer bit. That could have been the typical bumbling stepfather story line, but instead it was clever, true to every character and heartwarming all at the same time. The elaborate death scenario was hilarious — who accidentally electrocutes a pet turtle? Follow that up with the cover-up, down to the fake raccoon footprints. You know you’re laughing again just thinking about it.
Then, we get pet names like “Shel Turtlestein,” “Flyza Minelli” and “Zsa Zsa Gaboa.” It was worth watching the episode just for that. But then, then we get quotes like this one from Gloria: “You lie. I’m Colombian. I know a fake crime scene when I see one.” Ah, bring in the irreverent, my Modern Family friends. Oh, just when we’re roaring with laughter you sucker-punch us with the warm fuzzy, when Jay tells Manny that he knows the raccoon made the scratch on his car. Awwwww.
Did anyone else almost pee a little when Luke ran from the room — twice — when he thought Denise was his biological mom? Although I really can’t see someone lusting after Phil — no, holding a torch for years — I’m grateful she did, because it brought us fabulously awkward Phil moments and this quote:
“I still have my cheerleader outfit.” – Denise
“So do I but this still can’t happen.” – Phil
Let me just say that this story line did nothing to convince me that Facebook is not a breeding ground for creepy stalkers, which is why you won’t find my page. I’ve got plenty of creepy stalkers as a blogger, thank you very much.
I’m really glad that Mitchell quit his job and I’m anxious to see what he ends up doing. Opening his own law office should be a no-brainer, I would think, but the process should deliver some hilarity, so bring it on. Oh, and more quotes like this one please:
“It might have been a little bit louder. There was traffic. I almost had to shout.” – Mitchell
“You almost had to what?” – Cam
“Shout.” – Mitchell
“A little bit louder now.” – Cam
“Shout.” – Mitchell
“A little bit louder now.” – Cam
“Shout!” – Mitchell
“Hey, hey, hey, hey!” – Cam
I leave you with this question: Really, how did Jay not know Mitchell was gay?
It is so much fun to read your blog because I get to read the quotes and laugh all over again!! They seem to pack in so much in a half an hour. Love this show.
