Damages – The Tobins and Frobisher are peas in a pod

The third season of 'Damages' is quickly coming to an end, and a lot happened in this episode, but what stood out was the parallels drawn between the Tobins and Frobisher of the first season.

- Season 3, Episode 11 - "All That Crap About Your Family"

Oh man, Patty was all over the place in this week’s episode of Damages, wasn’t she? Between freaking out on Ellen, firing Alex, and getting pwned by Tom, I just didn’t know what was going to come next. I loved the scene with her and Ellen. It was nice to see Patty on her heels, not completely in charge of the situation like she usually is. I also thought it was a fascinating look into her mind as she fabricated a bunch of lies about Ellen, right to her face, making her out to be someone that sounded a whole lot more like Patty than Ellen. It’s clear that Patty is really hating on herself right now, and why shouldn’t she be?

I also loved the short scene between Patty and Tom, when Tom admitted that it was him who had gone behind her back to talk to Tessa. I’m certainly not used to seeing Patty on the losing end of a tense situation, but when Tom admitted everything and said, “Yeah, I lied to you. Have you ever lied to me?” I knew that there was nothing Patty could say. She is the queen of lies, and it was great to see her caught in her own game. Unfortunately, we know that it’s not really going to work out for Tom.

This episode did a really nice job in mirroring the story of Frobisher in season one with the Tobins this year. We saw a touching dream sequence with David, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. The real meat of the story lay with Frobisher and Terry. Terry wanted to get to know the “underbelly” of Frobisher for the movie, but I don’t think he knew what he was getting into. After banging some hookers and doing some coke (good ole Arty!), they were talking about what lengths Terry would go to in order to protect his family and money. He was certainly picking up the hints that Frobisher was dropping, about hiring professional killers.

At the same time, we saw just how far the Tobins were willing to go, as they had Tessa (who turned out to be Joe’s daughter and not Louis’s) killed in Antigua. It’s going to be interesting to see if Joe finds out that she was really his daughter and what his reaction will be. I’m wondering if it will be enough to have him turn on the family.

One thing is for sure: the shit is royally hitting the fan at this point, and with only two episodes left, there is a whole lot of action left in this season (hopefully not the last) of Damages.

Bob — Did you get the impression that just *maybe* Terry is an overly intricate plant to make Frobisher admit to his dirty dealings? Probably a stretch, as Terry appears to be a well-known actor in the ‘Damages’ world, but I did raise an eyebrow at how much Frobisher is revealing to Terry and how Terry seems to be prodding him for more, more, more “background.”

It would certainly be an interesting twist, but I’m not sure who would be behind it. I’m wondering if Terry is going to realize just how vile Frobisher is and drop the project all together.
