Human Target’s Guerrero: Badass and old wife

Week after week, Guerrero is stealing the show on 'Human Target' and now he's stealing my heart as well. And Winston's.

“You’re an EMT, median income at best. You’re not in a band — how’d you land a princess?” – Guerrero to princess’s lover

I wrote in the past about the bromance between Chance and Winston, which is endearing. If Chance and Winston are like tender lovers, Winston and Guerrero are like an old married couple, who honestly make me think of George’s parents from Seinfeld. Their relationship is so great because it’s unexpected. The dynamic we usually see between crotchety geezers is refreshing when two badass men share it. The whole exchange about the Camaro’s GPS being more trustworthy than Guerrero’s New York sensibility was great, and Winston chiding Guerrero about the nicknames he makes up made me laugh. Follow that up with the third daughter of a Masai warrior digging Guerrero and it was perfection from start to finish.

Guerrero is fast becoming one of my favorite supporting characters on TV right now (if Supernatural‘s Bobby doesn’t get out of the wheelchair fast he might have some competition on his hands). Everything happened so fast in the scene with Tony, but there was Guerrero, using one of the assassins as a human shield, and then later taking out a sniper. He’s a man of mystery, revealing new aspects of himself week after week … surprising and fun things that make me love him all the more.

Other things I noticed this week:

  • Sneaky trick with the food cart … too bad it only fooled me.
  • I really didn’t want Gerard to die. It was only a short time, but I got attached. Any friend of Chance’s is a friend of mine I guess.
  • The princess’s mother had one of the longest necks I have ever seen.
  • There wasn’t as much chemistry with Chance and Christina Cole‘s princess as there has been with some of the other actresses this season. I know it’s probably because she’s supposed to be a bit uptight, being royalty and all, but a bit more banter that clicked would have been fun. I would have loved to see Melissa George in this role….
  • I liked the convention of showing what the scenario would have been. Justice with Victor Garber did this well, and I think it’s CSI that does this as well, but I don’t watch it anymore … am I remembering that correctly?
