Dark Blue – Are you at all interested in the Carter and Alex relationship?

Tonight we got not one, but two episodes of 'Dark Blue.' I was hoping that back-to-back episodes would mean a case that carried from one episode to the other, but unfortunately they were two standalone undercover cases. Carla Day fills in for the review this week.

- Season 2, Episode 7 & 8 - "Home Sweet Home; Shell Game"

I agree with Aryeh, the normal Dark Blue reviewer, that more in-depth cases would be nice to see. Though, I disagree with his and many of the regular Dark Blue commenters in their dislike of Alex Rice joining the Dark Blue team. If anything, I don’t care for how much Carter has been at the forefront of the episodes rather than Dean, Ty and Jaimie.

If you don’t like the Carter and Alex relationship, well … the first episode probably was not for you. ‘Home Sweet Home’ was the episode to move their relationship forward from the casual level to the “moving in” stage, even if only temporary.

Ty was part of the robbery crew scouting locations and setting up the trap. I loved the dinner scene with Jack, his wife, Carter and Alex. The set-up seemed to be going too smooth and I actually wondered how this case would last an hour. And, that is when bump after bump happened, starting with Ty being taken hostage. And, Carter and Alex allowing themselves to be taken hostage by Jack and his wife to protect Ty.

As this season has progressed, Alex and the FBI have helped the team get the money, houses, and other resources they have needed to use to set their traps. I liked that, this time, the FBI resources ended up playing against them as they were using a drug dealer’s home for the trap, and neither Carter nor Alex were familiar with the home or its contents. This caused them to have complications playing their covers.

Of course, it all ended with Jack and his wife dead, because, on Dark Blue, people get killed. After Carter killed Jack and he embraced Alex, I really thought they were going to kiss and their secret relationship was going to come out, with Dean watching them on video. But, that didn’t happen, which I was happy about.

In other important developments, we finally found out Ty’s secret: he was seeing someone he met while undercover, Eva. She doesn’t know Ty is a cop, as he continued to see her as one of his cover identities. This leads us right into the second episode of the night.

‘Shell Game’ was full of surprises. A well-respected community leader, Walter Shell is a “dirty dude” and running drugs in the community. He justifies it by saying that he helps 1000 people for every one that he hurts, believing “that’s a hell of a trade.” Through the investigation, Ty catches Eva’s brother, Joshua, playing lookout for a drug dealer. And, Joshua ends up helping out the team in exchange for staying out of jail. That means he was shot and killed during a drug raid. Well, not really killed, though I was shocked for a minute or two when it happened. I was very surprised when Ty didn’t tell Eva that her brother wasn’t really dead, even though it was obvious that he really wanted to.

The biggest shock was when Ty was meeting with Walter Shell’s lawyer to seal the deal on a financial arrangement, i.e. a deal to sell drugs, and he was introduced to his supplier … EVA! I was sad to see that. Sad for Ty.

I understand that Ty had a relationship with Eva, but I don’t see how that would have any bearing on the case against Shell. There seemed to be a disconnect there for me in the story when Carter and Alex tell Ty he had better find a way to make the case stick without his testimony.

But, in the end, story wise, it all worked out awesome, as Ty got Shell to incriminate himself on film; I loved that part. Shell — this supposed trusted community leader — really let his true evil side show. His confession was a highlight of the episode.

I don’t understand what Ty did that was wrong by dating someone from the projects, even if it was using one of his covers. Or why he should be suspended because she ended up being a criminal. I guess they are only allowed to sleep with other team members or their marks, right?

Next week is the two-hour finale. Will Ty still be suspended? What will happen with Carter and Alex? All I really want to see is more of Dean in action. I miss having him upfront and center in the show.

Who is Eva? What’s the actress’ name?

I loved these two episodes. I am amazed each week that the supporting character actors are SO great. The two husband/wife theives in ‘Home Sweet Home’ are fairly famous and were very good. All of the actors in Lance’s team were superb. When a show has that high quality of supporting guest actors each week, it So adds to the show. I would like Alex to go to Miami so Carter can get his housekeeper, Rosie back. Alex is killing this relationship with the suspicions, her demands and ultimatums on the Team and ‘moving in’..adios!
Shell Game was great..loved Dean helping Carter with his shot through the wall and Dean’s reaction. Dean’s comic side came out in this episode..he steals most of the scenes he is in, for me. Jamie was also great in her covers.
But, alas, with next week’s double ep and all of the low numbers, I bet it will not be season finale for series finale..I will be quite upset.

Alex needs to go back to where ever she came from. The FBI doesn’t share or work well with other agencies, so she working with Carter and his team doesn’t make any sense. She doesn’t add anything to the show and hopefully she will not return to season 3. Kill her off already, just don’t bring her back.
