No Ordinary Family – Let’s suspend everything … including our intelligence

'No Ordinary Family' wanted us to remain "powerless" to do anything but believe the unbelievable this week.

Here’s what we’re going to do:

We’re going to suspend all disbelief in this episode of No Ordinary Family.

Whaddaya think? Can you work with me?

I know … I know — you’re saying: “But Michael … this is No Ordinary Family! A show about a typical American family, each of who has gained special powers after a plane they’re on crash lands in a Brazilian lake! How much more disbelief do you want us to suspend … ?!?”

More … I want more. Much more.

I want you to believe JJ and Stephanie can utilize their amazing powers to perform articulate surgery to save the life of JJ’s math teacher, Mr. Litchfield (Jason Antoon). You see, he’s got a metal rod piercing his heart, and his only hope is a miraculous, practically instantaneous procedure done by someone who not only can perform it with lightning speed, but by someone who’s just read manual upon manual of dizzying technical instruction that should take years to refine and understand completely.

I want you to further believe something goes awry during the procedure — despite these two people’s incredible abilities — and they pull a rabbit out of their hats, saving Mr. Litchfield’s life.

In addition, I want you to believe that they could resuscitate Mr. Litchfield and give him not only his life back, but also the realization that his life or death experience (which he was unaware of, by the by, until he awoke from surgery) was all that mattered. Nothing that came before his accident — not even JJ’s criminal hacking of school computer records — could compare to the new-found second chance he’s gained. Talk about your la vida loca.

Lastly, I want you to imagine the evil Watcher can convincingly pull off a smile which will melt Katie’s heart to the point that she’s giddy, rubbery-legged, and stammers incoherently.

Whatcha think? Was that possible for you? Because, if you could truly do that, you enjoyed this episode of No Ordinary Family.

I, on the other hand, just couldn’t.

I agree with you, completely. I watched this episode in utter disbelief. The term “jump the shark” is thrown around a lot, but may be fitting here. This episode was just bad, bad, bad.

Hey I’m so glad I didn’t watch more than the Pilot, it was already ridiculous back then :-)
