Let me ask you something about ABC’s The 25 Days Of Christmas …
Do you really believe Harry Potter is the right kind of programming for the holiday season? I mean … for Christmas?
No … neither do I.
Jack Frost? Sure. Rudolph? You betcha. But … Winnie The Pooh?!? I don’t think so. You’re pushin’ it.
Home Alone … Miracle On 34th Street … The Santa Clause … well of course. That’s Christmas fare.
But … The Cat In The Hat? Happy Feet? Ice Age? And, no, you don’t need to scramble for the phone to call an eye doctor when you read part of the “holiday” programming includes — wait for it — Puff The Magic Dragon.
Yep. Puff. The. Magic. Dragon. You’re kidding me, right? Yeesh.
Look, I’m all for family-themed programming, especially during the season, but ABC’s pushing it with the feel good gooey-ness they’re busting out this month. Harry Potter is in no way, shape or form suitable for my holiday viewing pleasure. On the other hand, A Christmas Carol is. (Preferably in black and white, don’t you know.) Winnie The Pooh — while outstanding kid-cuddle programming — doesn’t cut the brown mustard when it comes to silver and gold. And Ice Age? Really … ?!? Give me the name of the Brainiac who came up with that doozy as something you can drink hot cocoa to. I don’t know about you, but Dennis Leary and Ray Romano don’t scream festive holiday lighting and twinkly tinsel, if you know what I mean.
For the most part, ABC Family’s 25 Days Of Christmas line up isn’t my cup of tea; not by any stretch of the imagination. Give me A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Boris Karloff as The Grinch, and Burl Ives belting out the classic tunes. I mean, where’s Frosty? Yukon Cornelius and The Bumble? Heck … Bad Santa makes more sense than The Cat In The Hat! But if that line up trips your trigger, more power to you.
Mark my words, though: Something tells me ‘a modern-day take on Dickens’ that “follows a publicist visited by ex-boyfriend”‘ is going to be a real CheeseFest.

ABC Family. A New Type of Holiday Movies!
Perhaps it is a subliminal message suggesting the holidays require being high
ABC Family always has really weird programming – and not always geared for families.
Maybe they can fit a little “A Nightmare on Elm Street” in on the 13th, everybody knows that ends in a holiday mood!
That’s closer to my holidays than any of the so called “holiday” movies.
