The V finale kills!

As a season finale, this was a non-stop ride with so many twists and deaths - I loved it. As a potential series finale, it was a little lacking. Though it was a cliffhanger, it was one that I could live with as a series finale; there was an end of sorts.

- Season 2, Episode 10 - "Mother's Day"

I figured there would be some deaths on tonight’s V finale, but there were many more than I expected. I even thought maybe Anna would die and Diana would take over. When the plan was for Lisa to kill her mother, I knew that wouldn’t happen. Unfortunately, one of the problems with human emotions is a conscience, and Lisa definitely gained a conscience.

How creepy was it to see Anna go from declaring she wouldn’t sacrifice herself for Lisa, to playing the good mother who would do anything, even die for her daughter? The fake emotion she played on Lisa: super creepy. I did think the way Anna saw Lisa with the gun was a little lame, but overall it played out well. In that moment when Anna realized she could fake her emotion with Lisa, she won. She won the war when she realized what a simple “I love you” could accomplish.

On the opposite side, Erica realized how she’d lost her moral compass. Lisa hurt Erica deeply when she said, “No more merciless then you’ve shown you can be.” Unfortunately, Lisa was played like a fool by Anna, which had deadly consequences.

How shocking was the death of Diana? From a peaceful speech to her followers, to a lizard tail through the chest. I wasn’t surprised that Anna would kill her mother, but wow, I was surprised when it actually happened. My favorite line of the night was when Anna said to Lisa after killing Diana, “Now, that’s how you kill your mother.”

At this halfway point in the finale, I didn’t know how it could get more shocking, but it did. I had some issues with the last part of the finale. In particular, it took years for Lisa to mature, and then she was monitored for when she would be ready for breeding. All along I’ve wondered how the last queen egg could possibly be ready. I know they used a growth treatment, but for the new queen egg to be ready for breeding the exact same night as Lisa? I had trouble accepting that.

I was willing to overlook that with FauxLisa. Wow. I had never considered that they could skin one visitor to look like another. Could the Fifth Column, with Joshua’s help, put a new skin on a visitor to look like Anna and replace her? An idea for season three (yes, I’m hoping for another season). I know why the producers made Tyler such a doofus: so he could be duped not only by Anna this whole time, but seduced by FauxLisa. Tyler dying was a foregone conclusion, but the nasty way he died, and with Lisa watching: horrible. Now, though, we know why there are no Visitor husbands hanging around. Without emotions, why keep one of those around?

The big cliffhangers involved Erica and Anna. Erica was brought in to the government’s secret Project Aries, “humanity’s last best hope” against the visitors; and Anna trying and failing to bliss all humans, only to have it done by the hybrid, Ryan’s Daughter. The question is, though, who will the humans be beholden to? Who will be their leader? Anna? Or the Hybrid?

These two events set up what I think would be an amazing third season, and I hope we get to see it. Ivey recently wrote about how this V series was missing something from the original. I agree that the conflict and dynamic of the original V has been missing in this reboot, but this finale set the stage for to fix that: a complacent population and a small rebel group trying to save humanity. And, Marc Singer doesn’t hurt either, though I miss Faye Grant more.

I’m ready to petition for a renewal, do you want another season of V?

Other thoughts:

  • Why did Joshua agree to skin the FauxLisa? Did he know that she would kill Tyler?
  • Ryan was killed by his daughter, but it was relatively anti-climatic. I didn’t really care.
  • Where did Hobbes go?
  • Glad to see Erica realize how lost she had become to Jack. Great setup for their relationship going forward.
  • What plans does Anna have for Chad now that she knows he betrayed her?
  • Seeing Jack blissed … heartbreaking. Anna really did win over God.

And I think Jack will win.

Tyler scene- Yes boys, this is exactly what happens to you when you have pre-marital relations.

;D

More like this is what happens when you are one of the most annoying characters on TV.

With no Tyler and the whole world against Erica next season sounds like it would be great. Though I’m not holding my breath. But if the show is cancelled its an interesting way to go out. Not many shows end with the bad guys winning.

I hope Diana is not truly dead. They’ve brought Visiters back to life before so they better do it again. She was the only reason I watched this season and I was really looking forward to having both her and Marc Singer in the show.

This show better have a 3rd season and Diana better be back!!!!!!!

You know you right!!!!!! Diana better come back and do damage to her hatter for a daughter. But lets just hope that Diana was playing with human emotions to over throw her daughter to get what she wanted and stay in power.

I agree, I would love to see Diana be brought back to life… When she appeared on the show I was always waiting for that moment where she was going to be relentlessly aggressive towards Anna during their brief encounters in the bottom of the ship; I was on the edge of my seat for that action but it never came; I was a little disappointed really… I intend to keep watching but if Diana is brought back to life, like Joshua, she would revert to her original Queenly instincts until her memory returns and the action we’ve all been waiting to see will have the chance to happen…
I understand that having only a guest roll means you will be written off eventually but It would have been an excellent cliff hanger if Diana would have been sent back to the leader as appose to death…
I don’t believe she is dead; when Erica’s First V partner was stabbed the story told was that a V’s heart is not in the middle of their chest…
I still would love to know what the story line for Lisa turns out to be and when Diana was broke out of her prison did she leave behind the comm device & the holographic communication device which Lisa may find…
I find it quite interesting to know there are now 3 living potential queens on the ship, the hybrid, Lisa & Lisa’s look-a-like; It would seem that a true test of overcoming human emotion is about to be upon Anna…
What if Lisa and Tyler bread successfully and Lisa turns out to have her own hybrid V…
Well, it’s apparent my mind is going in all kinds of direction on this show, I wished the writers would allow public suggestions, that would truly make the show what the viewers wanted to see…
Anyway – More V Please….

Got all caught up last night (4 episodes!).

My theory – Anna is going to skin a V to look like Tyler. I agree with everyone, he was super annoying and I would love to see him gone, but I don’t see it happening.

Oh no. I was never a hater of Tyler, but he did end up being pretty worthless. My first reaction to this idea was – NO!

After some consideration, it could be interesting for Erica to have to deal with a FauxTyler. Though, would Joshua allow this?

A main premise of the original miniseries and series was that Visitors could be anyone by putting on another “skin”. I can’t figure out why they took so long to get around to that point. It certainly gives them a tactical advantage they could easily have used to infiltrate the 5th Column. Maybe each lizard can only have one “skin”? That would be different from the original series, and explain things.

I don’t remember that being part of the original miniseries/series. Who did they replicate?

In this series, I think they get 1 skin, since it is so painful to remove the skin and kills them. The new queen egg and Ryan’s daughter, Amy, seemed to be the only visitors/hybrid without a skin already on earth. Now, that could change with the coming ships. Will they already have human skins or not?
