The X Factor – And then there were seven

'The X Factor' let two competitors go this week, both by purely America's vote as it turns out. I'm fine with the choices too. Spot on, America!

- Season 1, Episode 18 - " LIVE Results Show #4 - 2 of 9 Voted Off "

Just a short one tonight, my little gobblers. I don’t think any of us are surprised that Lakoda Rayne and Leroy Bell are done on The X Factor, are we? Both of the acts were rather milquetoast, not that I fault either one of them for it.

After all, Lakoda Rayne (and their silly name) were invented by the producers and judges, from four separate girls who tried out individually for the show. They’ve done a respectable job getting this far, having to rearrange themselves into something each of them never intended to be. (By the way, the chick on the far right is by far the best singer Whateverhernameis.)

It’s been my thought from the start that Pauler’s groups would be extinct first, and now it’s come to pass. I’m kind of relieved. I didn’t like the group category at all. However, those performances were always a guaranteed time for doing those things during the show that were necessary. Like running to the loo or giving my cat her Prozac (long story).

Another fine thing about the group category is that it kept Leroy Bell on for a few more weeks than he should have been. I was glad to see more performances from the guy, even though I knew he’d never win this whole shebang. I liked him; he seems affable, smart and has really devoted his life to his music. For those of you thinking it was his age that stopped him (and good golly if I heard that 59 was old old old one more time), I don’t think it was. Dude’s in great shape; he looks fantastic. It was the fact that his voice, although mighty pleasant, just wasn’t strong enough. I wish he could have come out and sung like he did “for his life!” (oh please someone slug Nicole) every night. Or had a better mentor, who would’ve taught him how to build strength and power in his voice through breathing techniques and vocal exercises.

We did see a perfect example of vocal power in the guest performance by Kelly Clarkson tonight. The girl can belt it. But I would be remiss in not pointing out that between last Sunday night’s performance on the AMAs and her gig tonight? Kelly! You need a new costume designer, sweetie. One who will stop stuffing you into sausage casing gowns that do nothing for you or your ass. Hey! I got a bit of junk in my trunk as well, girl. I’m with ya. I sympathize. Just get rid of whoever is doing this to you. You’ll thank me later.

And speaking of thanks, I hope all of you have a great day tomorrow. This year, I’m grateful for those of you who hang out with me and read my thoughts about this lovely (and sometimes ridiculous)  thing close to our hearts called television.

Gobble gobble! (And don’t take any crap from your in laws, Mother or Insert Judgemental Relative Here this holiday!)
