The Community trailer, one screenshot at a time

With less than 36 hours to go until Greendale Community College opens its doors once again, I analyze the show's new trailer to discover all the juicy goodies and what they might mean.

This is it, people. We are less than two days away from the spring premiere of Community. It feels like only yesterday that we were bitter-sweetly watching the Christmas episode, knowing we had months until we’d get a new episode. And it’s finally here, you guys! The writers at CliqueClack had the opportunity to screen the first episode and I highly enjoyed it, so I think you’re all in for a real treat this week. However, last week the entire internet got to see a beautifully edited trailer for the rest of the season.

After watching trailer a few times, I was able to catch a few delicious details and make some educated guesses on what’s going to happen in the weeks to come. Follow me down the rabbit hole, if you will.

The Dreamatorium is back! I figured the writers would be crazy not to use what is essentially a holodeck, but I’m especially excited anytime we see Abed in his Inspector Spacetime garb. I’m thinking Annie jumps feet first into Troy and Abed’s imagining ways only to get way over her head. Also, I love how you can easily see the floor molding that they painted over.

Troy in that Mexican restaurant from Jeff and the Dean’s lunch date, I think?

Oh wait…

Nope, it’s actually Abed imagining himself as Troy! … I think. Something tells me this one is going to be a mind-bending sort of episode. And it’s going to be awesome.

This is just a guess, but I think this is also part of the Dreamatorium episode. I can see Troy imagining himself as a doctor with a horny Britta doctoring it up with him. I’m so looking forward to Troy coming up with doctory things to say. I’m also looking forward to Donald Glover attempting to not break character when Gillan Jacobs makes that face.

John Hodgman is guest starring! With the notepads and Britta’s overall story this season, I’m thinking Hodgman is playing her psychology professor. The reveal of Britta’s major was a nice way for them to move the character forward and I’m interested in seeing it developed towards the end of the season.

Evil Abed is back! Dun-dun-duuuuun! Fans have been calling for this callback since the dice episode and it looks like this is tying back to the Dreamatorium episode from above. Has Evil Abed found a way to connect to the “not-darkest” timeline so he can take over for the not-goateed Abed? All signs point to yes.

I have no real analysis of this screenshot. I just wanted to point out that this man has won an Oscar. Choo-choo, indeed!

Chang turns the school into a militaristic dictatorship apparently run by an adolescent militia. I chuckled at the USSR-esque font on the banner over the entryway in this picture. Also, anyone want to take guesses on the bottom of the poster being put up? “Chang is _____”?

There are just so many great details here. For one, the tiger below his picture is a callback to first season’s El Tigre. Second, apparently someone called Nightshade the Magician is performing. For another, there looks to be a salad bar and photo booth at Dictator Chang’s shindig.

Is that Troy as young Michael Jackson? In that case, who is everyone else going to portray? Also, why are they dressed as Michael Jackson? Oh wait, they get to have Britta do a silly dance again. It all makes sense now.

So, it’s been confirmed that a character on the show will die before the season is out — but I can guarantee you it won’t be Pierce. Why? because I’m 100% sure this screenshot is of him speaking at the funeral … which was apparently held at Greendale. I mean, the memorial pictures of the person are obviously Photoshopped out and there’s an urn on the table! Oh, and unless that’s a ghost behind him, it’s looking like Dean Pelton isn’t dead, either. And let’s face it, if the Dean was dead, you know he would be wearing his sister’s sexy angel costume.

The writers have also confirmed that there will be a civil war-like episode coming up, and I think the pillow fight is it. The Greendale equivalent of North vs. South has to be Troy vs. Abed. Is this taking the place of paintball this year? … I doubt it. I have no idea what they’ll do to top the last two paintball episodes, but I suspect the pillow fight won’t be the finale.

Did you notice anything else from the trailer? What are you expecting from this week’s episode? And are you as excited as I am for more Inspector Spacetime goodness?

Dreamatorium, not Imaginarium. This post is streets behind.

Fixed. I hope now that the post is edited it can be streets ahead. Or at least not the opposite of Batman.

Can’t wait for the Abed/Annie in the dreamatorium episode. The platform Pierce is standing behind has a star with “RIP” and then a lizard on it. Starburns had a lizard – I wouldn’t mind if he died.

Oh man, good catch! Although it could always be the LIZARD who dies.

I’m just crossing my fingers it isn’t Neil or Leonard.

Actually, there are TWO urns… a big one and a little one. I’m thinking you’re right… Starburns and his lizard are gonna die.

I kinda thought the star on the podium symbolized Starburns.
