Dancing With the Stars does Rock Week

It's rock week on 'Dancing With the Stars,' and even Gene Simmons showed up to watch. So, did they "rock" me? Um. Maybe sometimes.

- Season 14, Episode 6 - "Dancing With the Stars"

The producers went with rock songs as the theme of Dancing With the Stars this week, and it was a fairly enjoyable ride. I took the liberty of jotting a few thoughts on each couple, so let’s discuss them and munch some peanuts shall we?

Sherri and Val: The opening of this with the shimmy on her knees on the judges table in front of Len was kinda creepy. As was Bruno asking Sherri, “Voulez-vous couchez avec moi?” (Isn’t this supposed to be a family show?) But overall Sherri is doing a lot better than I thought she would. She got straight sevens, for a score of twenty-one.

Katherine and Mark: Katherine already looks like a professional to me, and I think the judges were a bit harsh on her performance. They wanted cleaner moves and more fury. But being as good as she is this early in the game? Amazing. Score of twenty-four.

Jaleel and Kym: Well, you know this guy just leaves me cold if you’d read any previous reviews. Last week, he was in tears over the past characters he’s played and how much he “loves to entertain.” Give me a break. This time tangoing around the floor? He and Kym look like they have an uneasy truce. Although Carrie Ann liked it, I was more on Bruno and Len’s side. The footwork just wasn’t sharp enough. (And even if it was, I’d still abhor the guy.) Score of twenty-two.

Melissa and Maks: Despite Mak’s flub up at the conclusion of their paso doble (which I think might actually get them some sympathy votes from Maks lovers) this was Melissa’s best effort to date. Maks throws some difficult choreography her way, and she’s coping. Keep it up, chickie. Score of twenty-two.

Donald and Peta: C’mon. This paso doble was brilliant and deserved a perfect score. What? The judges gush and gush and then give them straight nines? Sigh.  It was dramatic, powerful and cool. Donald is … really good.

Gladys and Tristan: Oh my. This was like watching your grandmother dance at a wedding with the best man. It was sad. Stiff. Boring. And she’s leaving tomorrow night. At least she should. Sorry Gladys fans. Score of twenty. (Carrie Ann and Bruno’s sevens were a gift. Len’s six told the truth.)

William and Cheryl: Woah. This jive was all over the place. William lost time and his flicks were messy messy messy. Cheryl even lost her shoe. What a disaster. But you know what? William will survive to kick another week, as the girls just go wild over him and will vote for him even if he’d have barfed on Tom Bergeron. Score of twenty-two.

Roshon and Chelsie: These two are very sweet together. I wasn’t exactly sure how the waltz and their slow version of their “rock” song fit at first. But Roshon pulled it off. He has lovely movement and is very smooth for his age. I don’t agree with Carrie Ann that he’s the best of the male dancers (see my comments about Donald.) But the kid’s talented. And as Len said, “Good job, dog.” Score of twenty-six.

Maria and Derek: Poor Maria! Good golly Moses, first her ribs and now a stress fracture in her foot? I gotta say, this girl is a trooper. You can never tell how much pain she must be in. She’s in it to win it. And with Derek’s choreography and their fantastic chemistry? It just might be possible for her, if her lil body holds out. Score of twenty-six.

Gavin and Karina: Hey. I’ve seen him do worse. Yes. He does have strange posture. Karina has her work cut out for her. But I’m hoping Gavin can get out of the bottom two this week. He’s improving, and that’s an important part of the competition. Score of twenty-three.

All in all? It was fun to see the band Kiss again. And I hope we kiss Ms. Knight goodbye on Tuesday.

What do you think? Am I off the mark?

Hey Tara,

Great review! Did you watch the results? Well unfortunately Jaleel is still there. Now I knew that Gavin and Melissa were going to be save after the whole ordeal of Melissa going to the hospital and Gavin carrying her off to the ambulance was revealed. I feel for Melissa but still, after that you knew they were both safe. LOL! I was sorry to see Sherri go. She is entertaining but Roshon is way better and he should not have been in the bottom 2. Of course, he might possibly have not actually been in the bottom 2 – you knows. BTW, isn’t Maria way to young to have all these injuries??? Wow!
