Big Brother – Nominations and Power of Veto stir things up

After Hurricane Willie's departure, there was no time for fooling around as nominations and the Power of Veto competition and ceremony were all crammed into this episode of 'Big Brother.'

- Season 14, Episode 6

Shane wins Power of Veto

We got an accelerated episode of Big Brother tonight thanks to the mini-drama that was Hurricane Willie. The aftermath of his removal from the game seems to have finally kicked the newbies into gear now … well, some of them … to realize that they really need to start playing their own games. Listening to a coach’s advice is fine, but in the end the final decisions should rest squarely on the shoulders of the people actually playing the game.

We saw this in Frank’s nominations. Once Willie was out of the game, Frank had to move in on his next biggest threat: Shane. Not only is he a threat, but he voted against Frank in the last eviction, as did JoJo and Danielle. I’m sure Frank was taking some of Coach Boogie’s advice when he chose Shane and JoJo as nominees to knock Britney down to one player in the game, but his choices were rational based on last week’s eviction vote (after all, he did warn JoJo not to vote against him, and then she lamely tried to blame Willie’s “mind control” for her vote). The one bit of advice Frank wisely avoided taking was putting up two members of his and Janelle’s teams as pawns. For someone who has played this game twice now, that is the dumbest idea ever because it does not take into account the Power of Veto. As the die hard fans know, the pawn always goes home.

Frank was wise in that decision because who should win Power of Veto but Target Numero Uno himself, Shane. That keeps him safe for the week, but JoJo is still in danger. Poor Danielle knows she’s the next in line for nominations, and when Coach Dan tried to light a fire under her ass to fight for herself … she crumbled into a pile of blankets and tears, practically whispering, “Shane, why hast thou forsaken me?” (she really did whisper Shane’s name as she looked Heavenward as they faded to black before a commercial). But Shane had a plan up his sleeve to keep both of his girls safe … backdoor Wil.  What?! Okay, I know he’s got a little showmance going with Danielle, but she’s the last player on Dan’s team. Take her out, there’s one less coach in the house as well. And why target Wil? Joe seems like the bigger threat in competitions. Frank, luckily, has proven he really is thinking of his options, now and in the future, and going after Janelle’s team just isn’t the right move at the moment. The real test will come in the eviction. Does Boogie really care enough about Dan to help keep him in the house, or would he prefer to knock Britney down a little more? The risk there is that Shane could probably rally Danielle, and they could align themselves with Wil and Ashely, and then go after Jenn. Joe is loyal to his captain, so who knows what he would do if the numbers looked stacked against him. I don’t think Shane could pull that kind of move off with JoJo though. If she stays, they’ll be on their own but things could really flip if Danielle stays and gets her head in the game. Who would you keep this week? Leave your comments below.
