Big Brother – The game has been reset

America has voted, allegedly, and the results of the vote have dramatically changed everything we've seen on 'Big Brother' so far this season. But is it a good thing? And we have the results of the HOH competition as a hidden spoiler!

- Season 14, Episode 10

"Big Brother" resets the game

Well, if you were hoping for a dramatic Big Brother eviction ceremony tonight … don’t read any further because this episode cannot be discussed without being spoilery.

Let’s get the minor stuff out of the way. There was no eviction tonight. Frank and Joe remain in the game, despite Wil having issues with his coach, and Ian not really knowing how to bluff when someone asks him a question. But the reason Frank and Joe are still in the house is because America voted (allegedly, since the producers refuse to divulge the actual numbers) to offer the coaches the chance to join the game as players. I don’t think it was presented to us in that way originally. I’m pretty sure it was “vote to bring the coaches into the game” (I voted no ten times). But right before the eviction voting, Julie dropped the bombshell on the House Guests that the coaches had the choice to join the game. If they chose to do so, there would be no eviction and the game would reset as if the season had just started (is this even fair to the already evicted House Guests?). It only took one coach to vote yes to reset. (And anyone following the feeds knows that the coaches were asked by producers earlier in the week what they would want to stay in the game; Janelle said if she went to the Jury House, she wanted to be able to have her baby with her since her original deal was to not go to Jury. The producers agreed since the baby can’t talk!) If the coaches elected not to join the game, the eviction would continue but several already evicted House Guests would have a chance to return next week.

Now if anyone can do the math, it was pretty obvious from the start of the season that after four evictions, the game would be way too short of players to make it to mid-September. Either the coaches or evicted House Guests were coming into the game. But besides this “twist” not being fair to the already evicted House Guests, it’s not fair at all to the ones still in the game because now there have been four players in the house making alliances and decisions without the fear of eviction. Janelle, Britney, Dan and Boogie have basically had immunity for four weeks. As much as I don’t like how Willie went about taking himself out of the game, it’s probably to his advantage that he did (although it would have been amazing to see him flip out on live TV once the votes were cast). With all the coaches except, surprisingly, Boogie voting to reset the game, it also meant that everyone, including Shane, got to play in the new HOH competition (as of this writing about two-and-a-half hours later, there are still six people still hanging on to the side of the ship). As it stands now, Big Brother 14‘s season has just started. Forget all about the past four weeks, would you. (It’s kind of like the original Dallas when Bobby died and then came back a year later, revealing the whole previous season was a dream. The last month of Big Brother has just been a dream.)

It will be interesting to see if the coaches stick with their former team members, or if new alliances will be formed (I see a Wil/Jenn/Frank/Boogie alliance in the future). I have mixed feeling about the whole thing, and I think they should have just started with 16 real players and the four coaches to avoid this silliness because the coach thing was one of the most interesting and original twists the show has provided in quite some time. What do you think about all this? Leave your comments below.

And after a little more than three hours, the new HOH is

I agree that the vote was meaningless and the outcome planned all along (though perhaps moved forward by Willie’s antics). I’m supremely annoyed that they posed it as a vote and charge $1/text to an unsuspecting populace, and also at the way they screwed Shane over by taking away all his power *after* he’d made his moves… but not enough to stop watching, unfortunately. This season has been one of my favorites, and getting Mike Boogie and Dan back into the game is only going to make that better. But the way they went about it really makes me lose respect for the producers of this show (if I had any left after I found out how they do their casting for these shows).

Hopefully they’re done rigging the game after they bring back an evicted houseguest. What do you think – they’re trying to get Kara back in for some eye candy? Obviously they won’t bring Willie back.

I don’t think they’ll bring anyone back now. It seemed to be an “either/or” situation. If the coaches remained as coaches, they would bring players back. But just to make the numbers work, they’d have to bring back almost everyone that’s left the house! And no, we won’t be seeing Willie again. He’s allegedly been banned from the reunion show as well. If you’re expelled from the house, you do not get to come back.
