Big Brother – Danielle has all the power

After a three hour-plus HOH competition, there's a new HOH in the 'Big Brother' house, and two new people on the block. One of them will go home this week, but will a real danger still remain in the game?

- Season 14, Episode 11

The HOH competition with rain and bird poop

Not a lot of game play on this edition of Big Brother with the remained of the HOH competition from Thursday taking up a full 30 minutes of the show (granted, they did a pretty great job of cutting down a 3-hour-plus competition to 30 minutes). Say what you will about some of the silly competitions — especially the ones that involve the players being splattered with some nasty substance like this comp’s fake seagull poop — but I am constantly amazed by the impressive production design of the challenges and the really great direction and editing that goes in to each one. The side of the ship for this HOH comp was massive, complete with an “ocean” and the rocking motion back and forth. Add freezing cold rain and the bird poop, and you forget how silly it is just by watching the spectacle unfold. So, massive props to the whole production team for making something so silly look so amazing!

And back at the game, everyone still seems to be stunned by the twist of the coaches entering the game. Boogie is actually pissed about it, and Britney, Janelle and Dan are all lying to each other about pressing the reset button. To make matters worse, in all of the excitement of getting into the game, Dan let slip to Boogie that Frank was going to be voted out Thursday … which was news to Boogie and Frank. After the comp, there was an attempt at damage control by Dan, and Britney put on a great game face acting like she had no idea that Frank was the target. Britney always seems so sincere with everyone, so I would probably buy whatever she was selling. Luckily for her and Dan, Danielle ended up winning HOH, which meant they and Shane were all safe for another week. She also made promises to Ian and Wil that she would not put them up if they gave up their chance at winning HOH. Uh oh.

For some reason, Dan is still in coach mode — he really pushed Danielle to go for the HOH win — telling Danielle who to nominate. She still definitely wants Frank to go, but now that she has the option to put Boogie on the block, why not guarantee one of them goes home? Leaving Boogie safe could also get Frank off the block if he were to win Power of Veto. If they’re both on the block and one wins, the other goes home. But Danielle doesn’t seem to get Dan’s reservations about not putting Boogie up. To him, keeping Boogie in the house puts less of a target on him as a former coach. He wants Frank and Wil to ensure Frank goes, but what about that promise Danielle made? And there are other options besides Wil. Why doesn’t she consider Jenn or Ashley or Joe to put next to Frank? Putting Boogie up next to Frank at least guarantees one less vote to keep Frank in the house. Her nominating Wil, especially after promising him that he was safe (which she forgot until he reminded her), seems counter-productive and only puts a target on her back next week. Meanwhile, Boogie is insulted he’s not nominated, but seems to forget that there is such a thing as a “back door” in the Big Brother house. I don’t know about you, but taking Boogie out would have been my first priority over Frank. He’s already won, he’s proven he can’t be trusted unless you’re his other Chill Town partner, and right now Frank is the only person he’s going to be straight with. Everyone else is going to get one lie after another. I think Danielle made a huge mistake by not nominating Boogie, but it will all come down to the Power of Veto competition and what decision the winner makes. If you were HOH, who would you have nominated this week?

SPOILER ALERT!

The winner of the Power of Veto competition is

Danielle! The nominations likely won’t change, but Frank and Boogie have been working hard to put together a new alliance and the pawn may be sent packing.

(before I read the POV spoiler)

I think Danielle should have put up Frank and Joe rather than Wil. She can justify that by saying it’s where the game was headed before, she keeps Dan happy, and she doesn’t break her word to anybody. Naturally her best gameplay decision would be to target Boogie and Frank, who now have no friends but each other, but I can see how she’d be swayed by Dan’s scheming after he’s been such a mentor to her. To be honest, I’d rather have seen Dan and Britney’s gang flip on Janelle and try to get her out, but altogether it does seem like the present players are forgetting what a threat every single one of these coaches represents. For different reasons they all managed to remain safe, even though it’s going to be totally viable for the four of them to gang up and pick off the non-loyalists (everyone but Shane, Ian, and Danielle).

But frankly, the longer Boogie stays in the game, the more entertained I’ll be. Now I’m off to read the spoiler. Hope Mike won it somehow, and pulled Frank off while remaining safe.

I can’t stand Boogie, so I really hope they backdoor him (fat chance of that). He’s just an icky person all around. I want Wil to stay just for his Diary Room sessions! He cracks me up!

I kind of foresee the former coaches aligning and taking over the game. It’s already started with Dan not wanting Boogie on the block, so before they all know it, the final four will be Dan, Boogie, Janell and Britney.

The thing that bugs me about Wil is that he’s about the furthest thing from a real person to be found in the house, even including the coaches. His confessional comments are entertaining, no doubt, but he treats everyone like he’s watching them on a TV show (oddly enough) rather than actually dealing with human beings. That’s a little too meta for me to enjoy.
