Big Brother – Finally, a big move is made

After a slippery HOH competition, Shane is once again the head of the 'Big Brother' house ... and he made a huge move with nominations. But will Pandora's Box screw everything up?

- Season 14, Episode 17

Has Pandora's Box returned to "Big Brother"?

There hasn’t been much to write about Big Brother in the past week because it’s all been pretty predictable. Another of my favorite House Guests got the boot because he couldn’t play along with Frank and Boogie when asked a direct question (did he forget that’s what got Janelle back doored?), so sure-thing Joe got swapped for “Anchors Aweigh” Wil, who left the game too soon, but very fashionable. At least Britney is still around to give me a laugh or two with her Diary Room sessions.

And when we last saw our intrepid House Guests, they were locked in battle for that HOH key. Well, some of them were. Was anyone surprised Boogie went for the money over safety or HOH? I know his rationale was that he’s in an alliance of six, and with Shane plowing through that greasy challenge Boogie thought he may as well go for the money (no one else even considered it). He’s already won $10,000 once this season — of which he kept $6000 — so it was a gimme that he would go for the cash again. He’s entirely predictable … and clueless to the fact that there’s another alliance in the house that doesn’t include him or Frank.

And who would have thought the Quack Pack (and I loved how Britney said she was embarrassed to even say those words in one DR session) would gain the power in the house? Shane pulling out another win in the HOH competition is pretty amazing, even if his competition was pretty weak physically. But the Quack Pack’s secret weapon is probably the most unlikely member of the group — Ian! Who would have thought Ian could pull off being such a great spy? He’s had me worried a few times, like when Boogie asked him who he would put up if he won HOH and hesitated when Boogie threw out Britney’s name first (but settled on Shane to not make Boogie suspicious — straight answers, man, straight answers even if they are complete rubbish!), or when he was playing a Heroes vs Villains scenario and placed himself on the Villains team. Ian has come dangerously close to showing his hand on a few occasions, but for now it’s working and his hard work made it known that Britney and Shane are on Frank’s and Boogie’s radar. Not that they would put them up anytime soon, but they would probably be the first targets once Ashley, Jenn, Joe and Ian were out of the house and the Silent Six remained.

But now there is no Silent Six because Shane made a big, ballsy move! He nominated Frank and Boogie! And he gave the worst, most incoherent nomination speech in Big Brother history. Something about cash and clues? If the knowledge that Boogie has him on the radar as a target hadn’t unnerved him, the plastic box with the question mark on it in the claw machine has really rattled his nerves. What could it mean? Is this the return of Pandora’s Box? Will the extra bedroom in the HOH room be transformed this week or after Thursday’s double elimination? Could it save either of the two nominees … or both of them? Or will it even come into play this week, and did Shane make a bad move with his nominations?

I’m glad he made his move this week, because the longer you leave either Frank or Boogie in the game, the more chance they have to make it to the end. But what will happen after the Power of Veto competition? Has either Frank or Boogie managed to win it? Will one of them be safe this week? Can anyone besides Frank, Danielle or Shane win HOH and really turn the game upside-down? We won’t know until Thursday, but I can tell you this … there has been Drama with a capital D in the house since nominations and the Power of Veto competition. And with Big Brother Fast Forward upon us (Ian thought for sure it was happening last week), things are going to be pretty exciting Thursday night.

And for the curious, the winner of the Power of Veto was

Frank, who will take himself off the block. Boogie, ever the sleaze, has been offering Ashley and Jenn jobs at his restaurants if they don’t vote for him … something he did in All-Stars and never followed through on. Surprise.
