The world’s easiest sushi rolls

sushi-bouquet

Nori … maki … unagi … saki … toro … my mouth is watering just writing these delicious Japanese words. Why? I am a self-proclaimed sushi junkie, and so are the other members of my household. My son could say “sushi” as young as 12 months old, and it wasn’t much after that he’d tell you sushi was his favorite food (and still does at four years old).

So you can imagine why it would be important to learn to make easy sushi. If you’ve got a sushi rolling kit and a little creativity, you’ll be on your way to making the world’s easiest sushi too. Follow the directions after the jump ….

Ingredients

  • nori sheets
  • brown rice (the trick to making this the world’s easiest is to get to a Trader Joe’s and buy their Fully Cooked Sprouted Brown Rice with seaweed and sesame seed seasoning packet — 90 seconds in the microwave and you’ve got your sushi rice)
  • avocado slices
  • sushi grade raw fish, unagi, assorted vegetables or filling of your choice

Could it really be this easy? Follow the directions that come with your sushi mat, filling the nori with the rice, avocado and other choice ingredients. Roll, slice and serve. It may not all make it to the plate, like in our house, but why cook if you can’t snitch?

So you can have sushi whenever you crave it, in about five minutes from start to finish. It’s healthy, too, especially with the brown rice, so if your kid will eat it, make it often.
