Buffalo Marys – Bloody Mary Countdown

bloody-maryMy husband Dereck loves Bloody Marys. He claims that he didn’t like them a few years ago, but now they are his favorite cocktail. He isn’t a snob: He will order one in a bar or restaurant. But his favorites are the ones he makes at home.

Cooking relaxes Dereck, and so does playing around with Bloody Mary concoctions. He says he is going to develop a bunch of new recipes and then have a Bloody Mary off on his May 6 birthday. So, I thought I’d share some of his recipes here, and invite you to drink along!

So, assuming you already know what a Bloody Mary is, here is the Buffalo Mary.

Recipe

1 part Vodka

2 parts Bloody Mary mix

1 shot glass buffalo wing sauce

Celery

Bleu cheese stuffed olives

Boneless chicken wing

Yield: One Bloody Mary

A word about Bloody Mary mix: Everyone has their favorite kind. My husband prefers Zing Zeng mix to all others. What’s your favorite?

You can, fortunately, buy bleu cheese stuffed olives, rather than trying to make your own. And yes, he really puts the buffalo wing into the glass. It’s surprisingly tasty!

Next week, I’ll have another Bloody Mary variation, and we’ll talk about vodka. Enjoy!

Colin’s a big fan of the Bloody Mary as well. Here’s his current recipe for a 12 oz. glass:

1-2 shots vodka
3-4 dashes worcestershire
3-4 dashes Frank’s Red Hot sauce
dash celery seed
1/4 tsp ground ancho pepper
V8 to fill the glass

He’s thought about using chipotle rather than ancho for an even spicier version.
