Entourage – First Class Jerk

Claudette Barius/HBO

(Season 5, Episode 8)

After last week’s episode, I was prepared for one hell of a follow-up this week. Last week played out very much like a great finale or possibly an episode that precludes a break for a few weeks. This was a good episode, but maybe not exactly what I was expecting.

Entourage is one of those shows where I keep watching it week after week, but I’m not quite sure why. I caught up with the first season after I heard so much about it, but since then it’s been sort of going downhill for me. Before, this was a group of young kids, basically, making it in Hollywood and doing things we shleps could only dream of when we were that age. Now they’re older and they’re starting to look a little sad, playing the same game old game in the same way.

Last week’s episode finally shined for the series, after so many so-so episodes. And last night’s was a decent follow-up. I hope this is a good sign for things to come out of this show.

Ari’s decision, in the end, was brilliant, though I’m still puzzling over why it was so easy for him to get Dana Gordon the job instead of himself. Why would John not have Dana next on the list over Amanda in the first place? Ari telling Amanda he was taking the job just to spite her was mother-fucking gold.

The only other thing to mention from this episode was Turtle’s fun little trip with Jamie-Lynn Sigler. I’m still trying to figure out the truth of that story. Going by Turtle and Jamie’s exchange at the airport (“Are you sure I can call you?”), I’d say nothing happened. Turtle’s reaction in the club to what Drama said showed surprise. So, tell me, what am I missing?

This is a rhetorical question, right?

Transcript (after the Turtle got the water in his face):

Drama: Look, I’m sorry. Turtle didn’t do anything, it was me. I was busting his chops today about you and I shut (? – inaudible) my mouth off today at a restaurant.

Sigler: Well he obviously told you!

Drama: No! I made it all up. He didn’t do anything, he’s totally innocent.

Sigler: It’s nice of you to cover for your friend but the fact is: I jerked him off, and he told you. I actually liked him and would’ve fucked him too if he kept his mouth shut.

===

So what’s not to get? She jerked him off, he told about it which is a no-no so he screwed himself out of getting srewed with telling about getting jerked because he couldn’t take the nagging from Drama anymore. Serves him right.

But again: were you high on shrooms while watching the show or why did the whole Drama/Sigler interaction elude you? ;-)

Well this is the way I think might have happened.

Turtle knew that he was gonna get crap from the guys so he might have made up a story to appease them with what happened.

But I think that he might have realized it was all going to backlash on him so he called Jamie and had her stage the angry drink in Turtle’s face so Drama gets proof and maybe just maybe Turtle has a chance with her outside the pressure of the guys.

For one thing Turtle didn’t seem that mad at Drama when Jamie threw her drink at him. It makes me think he might have had a plan in place for this.

Of course I could be giving to much credit to Turtle and the show so what ever take it as you will.

Sebastian — It didn’t elude me. As I said, a few things didn’t add up: Turtle asking if it was “OK” to get Jamie’s phone number (I mean, come on — she’d supposedly just jerked him off); Turtle not blabbing with what had happened to the guys immediately like a giddy virgin (Turtle isn’t one to have hid that from the guys for more than a second); Turtle looking surprised when Drama apologized to him, saying Jamie would have fucked him (he looked like he had no idea what Drama was talking about).

What Frank said could be true, but unless that is revealed later in the season/series, I’d say it might just be sloppy writing or directing and we were meant to believe Turtle really did get the handjob.

Hm. I still don’t get why you think it’s sloppy writing.

Turtle just got a handjob – and he’s unsure whether she’d give him her number because he’s insecure about his impact on women. He just got jerked of by a celebrity and might consider this the most he will get out of the whole thing. I mean is the question to a woman who’s quite famous and who just jerked you off without actually knowing you not like a “one night stand” / “mile high club” kind of situation, in which you usually don’t expect a long lasting relationship to follow?

And couldn’t it be that Turtle thought that she was unhappy and just broke up with her boyfriend and might not consider dating again right away?

To me, all that was pretty obvious and the whole part was written quite ok. The person who would’ve instantly run his mouth about it is Drama, not Turtle. Turtle is actually kind of sweet, which was underlined by his positive remarks about the things currently going on, while Drama is the negativevly insecure B-list celebrity who is sensitive too but also kind of an asshole, which all showed when his girlfriend broke up with him over his jealousy and Turtle giving him the job after a day as his personal assistant.

Maybe you mix those two up a little bit. Of course Turtle told Drama what happened, but only after being pushed for at least a couple of minutes, because he’s a guy who has a little bit of gentleman inside who really doesn’t think too highly of himself and who might, often enough, still interpret some situations as if he isn’t really supposed to be in them. Like the way Kevin Smiths behaves, who still doesn’t believe that Schwalbach is really interested in him, that he’s actually dreaming and that he might just wake up any minute now and realize he’s still back in Jersey.

Sure, Turtle can be an ass, but just towards women who are groupies and could be considered “just tail”, who do everything and are just there to perform random sexual acts out of the need to be close to an A-list celebrity.

But Sigler clearly doesn’t fall into that category.

Again, I think the whole episode was great and the writing was, if not perfect, but absolutely fitting for all the characters, especially the Ari and Lloyd situation, complete with Ari’s wife telling him it’s his decision. I like those situations and I like the fact that Ari stays independent and still did everything to get Vince back on track while installing his Ex in the studiohead position.

Geez I guess I should’ve written a review :-)

Can’t believe I’m commenting on this.
I took the “gesture” for truth the way Turtle relayed it. If there was deception, it went over my head.

Oh – I just heard that Sigler and the actor that plays Turtle are a real life couple – go figure…

HAH, and she called him something like “fat piece of shit” in this episode. That’s true love right there.

No bigger truth has ever been uttered.
