Daily Show/Colbert Report – Anderson Cooper loves puppies, Stephen leg-wrestles a Rep.

TDS(Week of January 5, 2008)

Hey, kids! It’s time for a quick round-up of highlights from this week’s episodes of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. I hope Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert got plenty of well-deserved vacay time and Happy 2009 and blah blah blah, but I’m so glad to see them again. God, it feels like it’s been an eternity since the last episode. Also, judging by how big news tends to happen while the boys are away, I’m surprised the world hasn’t blown up.

I believe the break was well in effect when the shoe-throwing incident occurred, and I was wondering if they were going to mention it. Strange how it doesn’t seem quite as jarring less than a month later. Instead, we got some Roland Burris news and … puppies! Anderson Cooper and puppies beats Roland Burris any day. Can Andy and a teacup Yorkie take care of Illinois for a while?

TDS also had some pretty smart interviews throughout the week. Rachel Maddow was really likable, and I can imagine her becoming an Anderson Cooper/Brian Williams level friend of the show. I’m glad Jon and company didn’t hold back on making fun of MSNBC earlier in that episode. Dana Perino also braved the lefty waters for another interview. I don’t understand how she handles it. The rest of the Bush administration must make her the designated TDS guest. Jon obviously tries to be as polite as he can, but he couldn’t help himself at the end of this interview. I suppose every man only has so much willpower.

Also, just for kicks: Ann Coulter and Bill O’Reilly duked it out for most obnoxious.

Over on the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert continued to show off his strange knack for attracting challenges. I didn’t know there was such a thing as leg-wrestling, but apparently it’s just slightly less homoerotic than regular wrestling.

However, the best part of the week must have been Colbert & Colmes on Monday. I would say Alan Colmes was an incredibly good sport, but it seemed like he was being treated better there than by Sean Hannity. Also, bravo to TCR for not making any Cryptkeeper jokes in his presence. Hell, just watch that entire episode, because it was a great welcome back.

So the bat was a cryptkeeper joke… didn’t get that one to be honest.

I know I’m a pig but that Clinton bonmot was simply the best thing last week closely followed by Stephens envy seeing how Obama stood between Bush Jr. and Sr.

Yeah, “I wanted to be the meat in a Bush sandwich. LOL!

Loved the Puppy Debates!

Only Stephen Colbert could get a US Congressman to leg wrestle with him. You go, Stephen!
