Entourage – Turtle the drug mule?

Hopefully Turtle gets Showtime, because Mason on 'Dead Like Me' is a cautionary tale: don’t smuggle drugs in your bottom.

Despite being disappointed in four out of the five main plot lines, I find myself looking back on last night’s episode of Entourage positively. Amazing, right? But first the bad.

Turtle and the show had better beware the horror that has awaited them in the past when traveling outside of their comfort zone. Remember the ridiculously stupid season five trip to Joshua Tree for absolutely no reason? Or what the location filming on “Medellin” wrought? Sure, Cannes and Queens were fun, but Turtle doesn’t want to come back from Mexico like Nancy Botwin on Weeds. Plus, I wouldn’t trust Alex (Dania Ramirez) as far as she could throw pre-weight loss Turtle. But I did enjoy watching Turtle and Marvin (Paul Herman) have a typical Marvin and Eric conversation.

Vince must be on a continuous cycle, because every time he appears to have finally found his groove again, he goes right back to throwing caution to the wind. Generally that’s figurative and related to his career, but now this nonsense with the daredevil crap? First of all, he looks like an idiot in that old-fashioned motorcycle helmet. Second of all, what the hell is he doing riding a motorcycle? Aside from the fact that the guy only recently got his driver’s license, you’d think someone so accustomed to providing for others would have more sense when it came to protecting his assets.

But worse than that is the promotion of Scott Lavin (Scott Caan), AND his ascension to Vince buddy. I hate that guy, and Eric should have put him through a wall last night. I didn’t quite follow how he’d likely pissed Murray (George Segal) off with the wine (was Sean Connery buying or selling it?), but hopefully Murray will put Scott out to pasture. Or shoot him. Whatever it takes to get him far away from Vince, his career, and us.

I continue to be sick of Ari talking about his being king of the world … and his then wasting time on very non-royal things, like fighting with Mrs. Ari over Lizzie (Autumn Reeser). That’s what Barbara (Beverly D’Angelo) reappeared for? I really hope Lizzie leaving the agency doesn’t become a thing that occupies the show’s time … Ari is better served right now pursuing the NFL team that will never come to LA.

Eric’s boring … he needs to get in Vince’s face and slap some sense into him (not to mention in Scott’s and just plain slap him), but right now he’s boring. I really wonder if, with the show drawing to a close sooner rather than later, Eric hasn’t prematurely arrived at his final destination and will continue to remain static. God I hope not.

But despite all this frustration at the aimless meandering, I still found the episode to be a good one. Why? (Michael, you’re not going to like this.) In a word — Drama.

Yes, Drama. For all of his whining and moaning, and the utter stupidity of coddling his ego, I think I’m going to enjoy watching him enjoy the success he’s always longed for. Besides, it’s bringing some great people together: William Fichtner (Phil Yagoda) is awesome, and I’ve been into his guest arc from the beginning. And Jeff Garlin writing a show for Drama that will likely co-star John Stamos? I don’t expect Stamos to be anywhere near as entertaining as his former costar Bob Saget, but I bet he’ll be great here as the guy who’s supposed to be the better looking of the two, but really isn’t (sure thing, Johnny!). And doesn’t it make perfect sense for Drama to ultimately find success in comedy?

I’m ready to laugh at with him.

She was pretty clear that the trip to Mexico isn’t about drugs. It’s likely something legal, though I’m not sure what that could be yet.

Still not sure why I still watch this show. They should spin off Ari into his own show, because I’d probably watch that over the other. Ari the football team owner.

Oh, I know what Alex said … until she elaborates, I can’t imagine what might be awaiting Turtle in Mexico that he’d be successful at aside from smuggling drugs. So for now I’m assuming he’ll be swallowing some condoms down South.

Smuggling over the counter medicine or people. You know, “wetbacks”…

Medicine’s slightly more of a Canadian problem, but I like the people angle. ;)

The Joshua Tree ep was spectacular.

The Vince storyline with Lavin and his dopey adrenaline junkie BS is really annoying. Turtle can’t be in for anything good in Mexico and that will also be annoying. Drama is the entertainment in the show now, that is for sure. Ari and E aren’t doing anything worth noting right now and I would like Mrs Ari to either never show up or be more interesting.

I’m looking forward to Drama hitting it out of the park with the comedy, someone (anyone) kicking Lavin’s ass and Vince getting back to being serious about his damn career.

So … here’s what I try to do. Really.

I make the greatest attempt to take the blinders off when I watch a television show. Really … I do. Even when that television show makes me labor in watching Drama. Johnny Drama.

And I have to admit: He was the least annoying I’ve ever seen him on the show this episode.

Am I growing soft? Or is he? I chalk it up to the fact there was just nothing interesting going on with him. It wasn’t good … it wasn’t bad. It was just there. But I’m certain he will ‘re-Brillo-pad-up’ and rub me the wrong way soon enough to make up for it.

Actually, I’m looking forward to this new story arc of Drama’s. Some frolickry will ensue and I will be there for the fantabulous crash and burn.

Count on it.

By the way: I’m now hungry for Canadian bacon … go figger …
