Coming soon this fall: Answers to the spring cliffhangers

Carla Day is back guest clacking for us about some of the shows with cliffhangers that she's most anticipating this fall.

With the summer season wrapping up and the fall season around the corner, I started thinking about the cliffhangers of last season. I had pretty much blocked them out of my mind, probably for my own sanity, but … answers are coming!

The Good Wife (CBS) – We last saw Alicia on the phone with Will, her boss, long-time friend, and potential lover, while her husband was waiting on stage for her to join him. Will Alicia pick Will and leave her husband alone on the stage, or will she be the dutiful wife and join her husband on stage and stand by his side? While not as huge as the rest of the cliffhangers, the resolution of this one will set the tone for season two and determine whether I continue to watch the show.

The Vampire Diaries (CW) – Where to start with all the cliffhangers from this finale? Who is really dead? Who is alive? Will Jeremy die? Become a vampire? What is Tyler? (OK, I know lots of you know already, but it hasn’t been shown yet.) And, the biggest and baddest cliffhanger: what the frak is up with Katherine? I am on the edge of my seat awaiting the return of Vampire Diaries. Thankfully, it is one of the first shows back … this Thursday!

Fringe (FOX) – Where to begin? People are all in the wrong places. “Our” Olivia is trapped in the alternate universe by her double that went to “our” universe. And, Charlie is alive “over there.” Have we seen the last of William Bell? Or, was Leonard Nimoy’s claim of retirement a trick? What have I missed? This is a finale that I will definitely watch again before the season three premiere.

And I have saved the biggest and perhaps most controversial cliffhanger for last, at least here at CliqueClack:

Bones (FOX) – The show ended with the team breaking up. The team that we have known and loved! Well, they are separated for a year, at least. Brennan has gone off to work on a project in the Maluku Islands. Booth is off to Afghanistan. Will Brennan and Booth meet on the National Mall in one year? Or, will something keep them away? Daisy is off to the Maluku Islands with Brennan. Will she get back together with Sweets or is their relationship kaput? Angela and Hodgins went to Paris. Will they stay together? Grow their family, perhaps? I know lots of people were so upset by the finale, but I am looking at it as a way to freshen up the series and let the characters grow. I can’t wait to see what has happened to some of my favorite television characters over the year they have been away from the Jeffersonian.

These were just a few of the cliffhangers I am itching to see resolved in September. Which shows are you on the edge of your seat waiting to return?

Only watch Fringe and VD out of the four, but they’re two that I’m really looking forward to. The VD finale really had me on the edge of my seat, and the Katherine twist totally got me. I’m interested to see how Nina Dobrev does with the dual roles, now that they exist in the same time and place. I’d like to see Jeremy wake up dead, then maybe we’d get to see the evolution of a newly-turned vampire that actually lasts.

As for Fringe, I’ve got no idea what to expect this year, but I’m excited to see what they do with the other side with the whole “things that could’ve been in our world, but weren’t.” Getting to know the alternate versions of the characters should be fun to see as well. And I’m glad that Charlie’s back, as I always liked his character.

I think Leonard Nimoy said something about how he might return if JJ Abrams wanted him back, so maybe the retirement was more about new roles. Hopefully so, as I’d enjoy some more Walter-Bell interaction, maybe even Walternate-Bell

Both Vampire Diaries and Fringe are set up to have outstanding seasons. I really hope they don’t disappoint. Only a few days for Vampire Diaries!

I only watch TGW out of those.. used to watch Fringe, but lost interest.
I can’t wait for the return of The Mentalist and Castle. More Red John answers, fewer extraneous subplots, please!

I’m very excited for Castle too. It didn’t end on too big a cliffhanger, but I am looking forward to how awful Castle’s time with his ex-wife went….and I sure hope it goes that direction.

On Mentalist, I’m ready for the Red John storyline to end.

Looking forward to every one of them, and I’m so glad you wrote this post or I would not have known VD started this week. Excitement! Well, not sure I do look forward to Bones, since they are really easy to predict. The other three…squeee (as they say).

Bones is boring. And they will have only been apart 7 months and not a year. :-p

Can’t wait for Fringe and the fact Olivia doesn’t seem to be staying in jail for long.

September 7, 2010 at 7:31 PM

Why do you say 7 months? As of the finale, they were going to be gone for one year. Is that a spoiler?

September 7, 2010 at 6:49 PM

Wait, Bones is still on?

I kid … And I will be watching this year, but not subjecting people to my opinion on it.

Haha! You know you can’t stay away from Booth and Brennan! And, well…Sweets and Daisy…or Hodgkins and Angela.

I love the characters, but hate the writers… :)

PS: Can’t wait for the return of Supernatural and Fringe.

I’m intrigued to see what happens when Supernatural returns. I am hopeful it will continue to be the show I love!

I can’t wait until Thursday for the Vampire Diaries! I hope that Jeremy does become a vampire–I think that will make a great storyline. But what am I looking forward to most? Lots of Damon… YUM!

I also can’t wait for Smallville to return–Lois knows that Clark is “Superman”. The last season should be EPIC!
