Vampire Diaries – Will Stefan remain in control?

This show is obscenely good. I could end my post right there because anything I write from here on in will just sound ridiculous … but here I go anyway.

Am I the only one who didn’t even suspect a relationship between Mason and Katherine? I really thought Mason was out just for himself and that the moonstone would keep him from turning during the full moon. I should have known there’d be layers upon layers to the moonstone storyline … why have I not caught on yet to the way The Vampire Diaries works?

Like the way they don’t keep any secrets for long. This ain’t no Lost , people — we get reveals every week, and I’m talking big reveals. Again, I wrongly thought that Caroline wouldn’t be outed to her mom for a very long time, let alone her finding out about Stefan and Damon. Granted, they’re falling back on the ol’ compel thing, but that’s OK with me. I still got to squee, and isn’t that all we really need from this show?

Now see, what I ought to do is not assume that Damon will be able to compel the fine sheriff. Knowing The Vampire Diaries, I shouldn’t expect anything that simple to occur. I should also not expect Mason to live very long, since he’s mixed up with Katherine and everyone really hates him. Although maybe those are the two things that will actually give him some longevity….

Speaking of longevity, I’m really liking who Stefan is turning into and I’m thinking he and Elena could be in it for the long haul. I admit it — I thought he was basically a pussy in season one. Then we got the Stefan-on-blood, which was a little over the top but gave us a taste. Season two has brought a balance that came out in his initial conversation with Mason. He’s approaching things like a nice boy, but he’s not going to be pushed around. He’s a lot stronger than I gave him credit for. I’m banking on the fact that Katherine thinks this way too, so Stefan’s plan about working human blood into his system just might work.

This and that:

• Caroline is the best fruit-punch mouth since Buffy‘s The Master. And she kicks some serious ass — that fight with Mason was awesome.
• There are a ridiculous amount of feel-good community events in Mystic Falls: the carnival, Founder’s Day, now this historical clean-up day … I’m sure I’m missing some.
• I’m quickly disliking Mason more each episode. I thought we’d get an angry guy who turns out to have a heart of gold, like Alaric. But he’s just a whiny bitch, tattling on Damon and Stefan, parading around doing Katherine’s dirty work. Not impressed.
• The Tyler / Jeremy friendship is really working for me. I was surprised Tyler confided fully in Jeremy, but I’m glad he did because I think those two are really good for each other.

Can Stefan survive drinking human blood without turning into Damon? What’s Katherine’s end game? Is Mason a gonner? Talk back!
