Can Mark Wahlberg hit another home run?

Or in this case, it would be more accurate to say get another touchdown, since CBS just picked up his new pilot, 'Home Game.'

I’ll admit it — there’s a part of me that wants to root for everything Mark Wahlberg does, no matter what. No, it’s not because I was a Marky Mark fan (I most definitely wasn’t). Part of it is because of his Dorchester roots — I love it when a local guy hits it big (so yes, I’m a fan of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris O’Donnell, Jeffrey Donovan and their ilk for the same reason). But it’s mostly because when Wahlberg works on a project, his heart is in it, every time.

I’m not going to get all philosophical on you (well, maybe just a little bit) but when you’re a part of something you believe in so completely, it’s bound to have some measure of success. Especially when you’re Mark Wahlberg: Entourage (seven seasons and multiple Emmys), The Fighter (Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee), In Treatment (critically acclaimed, Emmy, Golden Globe, Writer’s Guild awards) — just to name a few.

Can Wahlberg continue his streak with his new CBS comedy pilot, Home Game? It’s about a retired NFL champ who comes home to his wife and daughters, and it’s based on three-time Superbowl champ Mark Schlereth. I’m voting yes; you know Wahlberg’s a sports fan and his heart is in this — the magic will continue.

Do you agree?

I love Mark Wahlberg – wanted you to know that you repeated misspelled his name in the blog post.

Thank you Mary — in my defense, I spelled it correctly one time (although THAT one was the typo! ;-)).

Mark Wahlberg continues to impress — he’s got a great sense, in addition to his passion, about what will work, whether for the big or small screen. As a fanatical sports fan, I can’t help but be excited about this latest venture. Knowing he’s involved is the proverbial cherry on top.
