Greatest Firefly moments

In honor of 'Firefly' week here at CliqueClack, we've assembled some of our favorite 'Firefly' moments. Be sure to share yours in the comments.

We could have all gone back and re-watched the entire Firefly series, painstakingly taking notes of our favorite moments. Then, we could have put them all together and as a team decided which top moments would make our final list. We could have made video clips of all the moments and assembled a really classy, timeless post that would have made Browncoats everywhere squee for years to come.

Instead, we found this list of ten great Firefly moments online and pretty much ripped it to shreds, choosing moments that we thought were great instead. OK, we agreed with a few on the original list too, I was just going for a little drama.

Katie:

Two moments that I wish were included.

Mal meeting Kaylee, for a few reasons. First, we discover she isn’t nearly as innocent as the first few episodes led us to believe. Also, we get to see Mal’s face when he realizes she’s kind of a genius. And out of all the great flashbacks in that episode, this was probably my favorite.

Jayne getting his hat. He’s the most crooked of all the crew members, but you get to see his softer side in that scene. Plus, that hat is both goofy and so awesome because of how much he loves it.

Brett:

My favorite moment is also missing from that list. Mal kicks Crow into the engine. It’s the perfect end to the story that tells us all we need to know about who Mal is.

Keith:

Actually I might say that’s almost a Blow the Hatch moment. Just when you’re starting to think the show is on the goofy side, Mal pulls a Han-Solo-shot-first.

Ivey:

There has always been a soft spot in my heart for Tracey’s funeral. It colored Zoe and Mal’s background as well as anything on the show ever did for me, and I love the line, “When you can’t run, you crawl. And when you can’t crawl, when you can’t do that … You find someone to carry you.”

Keith:

I liked a couple mentioned on that list, but there are simply a lot of my favorite scenes from “Out of Gas,” particularly Mal’s struggle to get the part in place before he had to resort to going down with the ship. In fact, that artifact is the one I believe Fillion took onto the Castle set with him as an Easter Egg during the second season.

Debbie:

I guess I’m a sucker for a love story, because I wish there were a scene with Mal and Inara included on this list. Although I was happy to see Inara’s breakdown on there, because that was a really telling moment, my favorite scenes were the stolen glances between the two and the dialogue ripe with innuendo.

What’s your favorite Firefly moment?

My favorite moment? The scene where everyone finds the statue of Jayne in Jaynesville. The looks on their faces, INCLUDING Jayne’s, was priceless. The whole episode was just great!

A top ten list might just be too short.

Mal tricking the Doctor into thinking Kaylee was dead in Serenity. Mal and Wash being tortured in War stories, followed by Wash’s realization that Mal kept him from breaking. The scene where Badger meets River. Inara’s insistence that she tripped and fell after finding Mal in Our Mrs. Reynolds. The gang finding the statue of Jayne in Jane’s town. The crew being interrogated in Bushwhacked. Mal kicking Crow into the engine. Jayne’s favorite gun. River killing people with her mind. The Doctor drugging Jayne. Wash and his toys. Pretty much the entire concept of a deep thinking philosophizing bounty hunter. All the flashbacks in Out of Gas. Inara vs. Saffron. Zoe going Rambo in the movie. Mal defending Kaylee against Jayne the Director of Public Relations in Serenity. Zoe’s speech about stealth in battle is met with Mal’s grand entrance. “Oh my God! What could it be? We’re all doomed! Who’s flying this thing! Oh right, that would be me!” (With Kaylee laughing in the background).

“Are you alliance?” “Am I a lion? I don’t think of myself as a lion. I might as well though, I have a mighty roar.” One of the finest examples of dry humor I’ve come across in some time.
