MasterChef – Nutmeg is a bad, bad thing!

The second night of this week's 'MasterChef' saw another person eaten with some fava beans and a nice Chianti. And, did you know? Nutmeg is a four letter word!

- Season 2, Episode 6 - "Top 16 Compete"

The challenges continue on MasterChef, as we move right along through season two. And Max keeps on making enemies. You know, I was trying to come up with a moniker for reality TV people that purposefully make the audience and other contestants hate them. I think we should say they’re “Omarosians,” after the original queen of bitchiness, Omarosa Sheneedsnolastname who started all this on The Apprentice. Usually, this turns out to be an evil genius move, as in when the show is over, people still remember you. That’s what Max is trying to do, I believe. And now stepping up to the plate is Suzy, who can talk a good game herself. (As I pointed out last night.) But! They both got busted in tonight’s challenges, and yes I did rub my hands together in glee.

In the first part of the show, the remaining sixteen were divided up into teams, picked by last night’s winners Max and Derrick. (Suzy said here she was upset she herself was not a team captain.) Max shied away from picking her, and frankly, I thought he had the weakest team at the start. Guiseppe was the only one I could even remember.

The test was to cook for 350 L.A. Times workers, cafeteria style; the menu getting the most votes being the winner. Here’s some observations …

Suzy reminded me of Prissy in Gone With the Wind. But instead of knowing all about “birthing babies,” she knew all about lasagne. Two seconds after pushing her team into the selection of this main dish (hello? Derrick?) she admitted to never making one before, just like Prissy knew nothing about birthing babies when one actually came along. Perplexed. Me. After all her smack talk, of course Derrick trusted her explicitly with the preparation (fool) and she blew it. Totally Omarosian on her part.

Max set up Tony as a scapegoat from the beginning. He assigned him the meat station, and then didn’t have him make a “test” burger. Then he did not take charge and follow through with his idea to make sliders instead of big burgers, so they ran out of meat. He ranted to the camera about Tony constantly. Thus, when the Blue Team lost and had to go into the Pressure Challenge, the blame was already at Tony’s feet. Can you say it? Omarosian!!

And now, as it’s a raging thunderstorm outside, and I know Keith and Debbie would not want me to be electrocuted writing my article, I’ll synopsize. The Pressure Challenge made me hungry and looked difficult. Esther couldn’t tell Gordon what was in her filling. (I could tell him what’s in mine, but that’s another story.) Christian and Alejandra are dark horses, and Max got through again. The thing is, I think Max is talented. He doesn’t really have to be a bastard. Hopefully, he’ll learn that lesson by the time he’s thirty.

Jennifer. She made tonight’s big “Who Knew It Was a Bad Thing” mistake, by putting nutmeg inside her pasta. Bet she’ll never do that again. I know I won’t, and I don’t even like nutmeg!

Farewell Tony. We barely knew ye. But we could see it coming a half mile away.
